How long does it usually take for PV to restock there gongs?
I just ordered a d020-d, then went to go get an 18mm gong and they are sold out

Brovo CentiZen! Useful information. Summarizing he now has a source of the official batteries in hand, has tested them carefully, and determined that Air does indeed stress batteries past normal limits (for longer run time, no doubt). These are pretty unique guys, normal types, even highly rated ones are to be avoided:

"For various reasons I cannot recommend the use of any other kind of battery in the Arizer Air. The battery environment is borderline abusive - very high drain current, high temperatures, extra-low cutoff voltage... it's just not a safe environment for most kinds of cells. These cells are specially designed to take the extreme conditions it is subjected to under operation - in fact these cells are pretty much impossible to damage electrically."

Sound advice, IMO. Word to the wise kinda stuff. 'Stick with the factory battery'. And now we have another source of those.

An already great vape just got a little sweeter......

Hmmm these screens are still in the US and including shipping work out £9 for 10 screens. A pack of 5 flat ones cost me 0.50p from my local shop. And I've gotta wait for them from the U.S. :(

How many bowels are we thinking these screens last for any screen experts?

Thanks :)
I hear ya, they do look sweet and the reviews are glowing. But if I can make due with my cheapo screens a pick and a pair of scissors. As painstaking as it may be, I can buy another cheap bubbler for my troubles. Damn GAS is bad over here, avoid that cheap quality bubbler thread at all costs if possible! :brow:

Bummer shipping is so high, but I guess there's no way around that. They're a dollar each here, still very pricey compared to 3 or 4 dollars for a hundred.

However, IMO they really are that much better. Very well formed from much thicker wire than what you're used to (punching such hard SS wire crews up tooling fast as the wire gauge gets bigger guys looking for high volume and cheap material costs naturally 'go there' and give us frail screens that do 'wear out'.

IMO you're not going to wear these guys out, they're mighty tough by comparison. And the forming is near perfect (some good tooling there I suspect), better than you can do by hand even with thin screens, so the fit is very good at the bottom edge (as you can see in the photo), you and I can't match that either I think.

eslZCjG.jpg

While putting a screen in a Solo stem is usually no trouble, Air stems are different. There's a lot of taper (called 'draft') at the bottom of the bowl so the tool could be extracted from the hot glass, this taper makes the screen want to 'climb' up the walls and tilt doing so. Very frustrating, you'll find lots of posts on the topic. This screen is the best at combating that I've tried. This includes several diameters of SS screens in medium and fine mesh with various dome profiles, the E-nano screen with the skirt folded back (the best results I got before these) and several versions of the 'double inverted dome' idea pioneered by another FC member.....the Q man?

So yes, pricey, but 'the last screen you'll need to buy'? IMO not having to routinely mess with it has value to counter some of the extra cost at least. I'm recommending them to anyone who uses (or wants to use) who will listen.

Thanks as always OF for the most informative descriptions.

I was under the incorrect impression that these were a regularly disposable item.

Seeing as they last I think the purchase would be worth it :)

Sweet  I love the portability of the AA and the medium case makes it even better. It's a tight fit but that's the whole point of it - to embrace the "compactness", if you will.

I've also been about 3 weeks combustion free, although I have noticed that I now appreciate the speed of using combustion, especially from a water pipe.:science: Don't get me wrong, I love my AA, but over the years I got used to hitting a bowl and finishing it in seconds, which definitely came in handy during long multiplayer gaming sessions with friends. :p But now that I've been vaping for the past few weeks, I see how much more advanced and evolved it is than combustion and I find myself asking, "Wow, why didn't I start vaping (consistently) a long time ago?" Now I'm interested in getting my first desktop home vaporizer (maybe the Herbalaire or Arizer Extreme Q, both moderately priced "beginner" vapes).
I have managed to quit combusting completely after more than 35 years of serious smoking. I do this with a combination of a herb vape (AA plus a Solo), a vape pen (currently the Source Orb Terra is my favourite) and a Ti Nail on my bong. When I want that quick instant hit the pen or nail with some nice concentrate are ideal. I am making my own BHO from home grown weed. When I have time to relax and enjoy a vape "session" I grab the Air and smoke my best tops.

To be honest I would invest in some vape pen or nail instead of a home vaporizer. In my experience the Air gives the best vape around period! Invest in some spare 18650's and you can vape all day at or away from home.

Classic mistake, which I also made. Those bubblers are always available, so going for the GonG first is key. They just restock whenever. You pretty much have to check periodically, which im sure is good for PV website traffic........

I saw a few pages back somebody showing pics of "e-go" cases that fit the air.
I also bought two for 15 from my local headshop (ones great for my pinaccle)and I'm very happy with them.
The large can even hold a replacement battery and fits in your jacket pocket

Hoss, as a bare bone minimalist, I opt for the included belt case.

Spare battery, short stem, & I am good
To saddle up!

( OF course I do have two other Airs ( plus two other spare batteries, two spare cases, 3 baby stems. ( & a PPWT, in another case, chust in case! ))
OCD, or what? A prepared minimalist.):leaf:

PS However, if you do use the belt case, it would behoove one to have a belt lanyard, as the clip is way short, and leaves you clue less, and, gasp! Air less!:mental:

On the bright side though, any charger that is designed to work with Li-Ion batteries is going to be compatible with these cells, although most will only charge them to around 90% capacity. Please keep in mind that these batteries are not protected and should not be used in any unprotected devices!

I also like what he said about using an external charger.

What is the difference between using this or the GonG? I am waiting for a 14mm to come in stock.

The GonG is a lot shorter in length. Plus you don't need one with a carb.

Oh, what is a carb?
Its a hole in the glass. That you would have to put your finger on while taking a draw/inhale. Then you would need to remove your finger to clear the rest of the vapor out.

Just like how you would clear a bong or glass bowl.
Ahem, the only difference between the two are the lines going vertically and the crown like bowl that goes into heater port for the pvhe gongs. The pvhe were big for the early Solo bc of restriction problems. The non High efficiency gongs are the same length they just make adjustments to the pvhe ones, don't let those old pictures fool you. They had the uncarbed 18mm last night, haven't checked today. You can cover the carb too with teflon tape or toothpick, etc so don't let the carb or high efficiency deter you on 14mm ones.

Hey @DrRishi , nice to read your post. I also come from a background of many decades of combustion and have found the better way of life..... one thing though, I just wanted to point out, you mention here to invest in 'some' 18650s .. well make sure they are Arizer OEM batteries, these Air vaporizers really put batteries thru a rough time, and require some pretty heavily built batteries.
For anyone who missed it, click here for an explanation of the Arizer batteries and the rigorous testing they are put through. Seems to beat any battery I've found online or irl so far.
I admit, at first I was doubtful that Arizer had ordered 'special' batteries for their units, and was fairly certain I could possibly use some 30amp hi-drain batteries I could find online. Didn't, as I didn't want to void the warranty.
Now I'm glad I didn't. I'm ordering 2 more batteries from vapepower.ca right now in fact, before they run out, ha ha.
Keep giving us your Air experiences, everyone, it's a great thread !

Thanks for the advice (also special thanks to olivianewtonjohn) - The AA has definitely gained my respect for Arizer and their ability to create great devices. So now I'm starting to look at the Solo and the Extreme Q. I'm still a bit skeptical because most of the people here in this thread seem to think that the AA is in a league of its own, and seperates itself from the other Arizer products. But yes, I'm interested in getting another vaporizer for home use, and simply to conserve the life of my AA (this baby has been working overtime for me).

I'm gonna take a look at that Source Orb terra (sounds like the name of a space shuttle, for that reason alone I have to check it out :)), the E-nano, Vapir Rise, and The Plenty. I definitely like the generous pricing of the Solo and Herbalaire for my second vape, and will save up for a high end device like the Volcano or Cloud Evo by summertime.

I don't know why I'm already thinking of laying down more dough for another vapo when the AA is meeting all my needs and then some. IMO the AA is a good enough device to use in home, as well as away. Which is why I'm considering just getting a nice D020-D or an 18mm Hydratube (by the way, has anyone noticed that 18mm hydratubes are very hard to find, but 14mm is readily available everywhere on sites like DHGate?). I think the AA has exceeded my expectations and surprised me, so now I'm going a little Vape Crazy. :mental:

Hello guys :)

Good news for anyone wanting to easily charge from USB. I purchased the following cable for only £2.27 free postage UK price from Amazon. It was marketed as a Sony PSP USB charger cable / USB A male to Sony PSP power connector. Knew I recognised the little yellow tipped connector from somewhere.

Cable - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A78NUSO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Got the cable, plugged it in, realised it didn't work but also realised it differed slightly from the Amazon photo. There was a little black band covering a few MM of the metal pin.

Thought I would try to remove it, and after what was literally a 10 second job with a swiss army knife it came off fine.

I can confirm the AA charges. I have not done an extended charge, only a few minutes to test, but the green light blinked as you would expect. This was plugged into a 1amp iPhone wall plug.

So I would advise anyone interested in the UK to buy from the above link. And for anyone else elsewhere look online for a USB power cable for a PSP and maybe just confirm with the seller that the exposed metal is around 12MM.

:)

Check out the underdog log vape or 7th floor home vapes.

Look at the vapexhale hydra tubes on their site(all 18mm). Planetvape also offers a 18mm fbomb. Vapor blunt also has 18mm on their site.

This is cool. We're seeing this about as differently as we could have and yet be alike........

We both, I think, share being happy we played it safe and didn't stock up on batteries we now would not want to use (even regret buying?). The only two differences between us here are, I think, I knew it was possible and decided to give the benefit of the doubt to Arizer (small difference I think) and I find myself with a couple of spare factory batteries at twice the cost as I can now get them from CentiZen??? Wasn't I just talking about benefit of the doubt? Sorry CentiZen, sorry I doubted your coming through for the team......

Now my problem becomes justifying more batteries to support an hombre. 2 spares is usually considered enough and I no longer have any need to test one to death since the man has done that for us all.

Maybe buying another Air would justify more spare batteries?

Thought I would try to remove it, and after what was literally a 10 second job with a swiss army knife it came off fine.

Great news. Thanks.

A couple of warnings. First, as you point out, Amazon stuff can change since lots can come from different makers. I've reordered cables, presumably from the same Chinese guy as last time, only to have some minor (but often important) detail changed. Like here.

Secondly, I too have had good luck cutting doughnuts off these sorts of connectors, like in this photo of similar connector mods I posted a bit back:
TxZzukM.jpg

That's factory charger, cord as shipped to me, and modified, top to bottom. The top and bottom measure 12mm shoulder to tip. I suspect the 'assured 12mm' one above was really 10?

However (and here's the caution) I've also tried this trick at least twice to have it fail because I struck a buried metal shoulder. So if you're inclined to join it, do it now before something changes on you?

Regards,

OF

OF, seeing as you seem to be the battery expert....

I am looking at getting a spare battery, however the times I will use this battery are few and far between.

I was wondering how the battery will withstand the test of time whilst not being used.

I have read online that devices such as tablets and phones should be stored at around 50% capacity if not being used for an extended period of time. Is this the same with these batteries?

As fair as I know, fairly regular 'exercise' of these batteries is necessary for a long lifespan.

The other thing I can do is alternate between my primary and secondary battery, however the times when I don't vape for long periods, both batteries could suffer more.

Just wondered what your thoughts are on this.....

Thanks :)

"The battery expert"? Naw, that's CentiZen. He's a little taller than me, and some say better looking. No, to be honest, lots of people say that.....some of them insist "lots better looking"......

We all have our crosses to bear they say.

I'm sure he'd tell you that these guys are somewhat different from other types. They store best at about 70% charge (full is to be avoided, less can lead to problems over long (many years) storage). They don't need 'exercise' as some other types, they'll store for 10 years just fine at the 2/3 to 3/4 charge level.

This is what I do with my standby batteries: Charge them fully, run a session (one of four total) to drop them down to 75% or so, pull them out and stash them. I know I'll only get 3 sessions, not four, if I don't top it up first, but those 3 are 'in the bank in Denver'. Keep them under 100F (at least most of the time) and they'll be anxious to help out when the need arises.

BTW, I don't know how you carry yours, but right now I'm using one of those cheap dual 18650 cases with my backup in one slot and a sawed off 'dube tube' with a gram or so of ground bud to cover reloads on the fly on the other side. Plenty of joy in a small package.

Enjoy your Air.

I've been loving my herbalaire for 5+ years now without a single issue. I especially love that no grinding is required for it. Throw a little christmas tree in and it comes out like it's February. I usually just chunk mine up a little, makes the clouds bigger and shortens the session. They have water attachments and you can use some solo stems with it too. I'm a fanboy so I had to say something, but I'm going to shut up now since this is the air thread.
