Splinter Z current version... My favorite portable for power and flavor.
The versatility is insane. There is endless possibilities messing around with the mod. I can power extract, or take things more slow. I can plow through an unground nug, or slow-sip the dryest pollen for full flavor.
Let's talk flavor. The newest version is the best yet, and the previous Z and Zion design were already top notch flavor producers. My taste buds would make the argument a Z with a clean stem/screen dialed into the correct range is level or better to any other vaporizer on the market including desktop vapes with elite flavor ala Evo, FlowerPot, Herbalizer, Vapolution, etc. The vapor profile is fantastic pure convection. The power provides a "deep" flavor.... This newest Z does not have mica, which is likely why the flavor is even further refined on current version.
So damn easy to clean the stems and screens and the fact i have dozens of stems around makes life easy. But... One can vape many back to back bowls without deminished performance. This is a huge downfall of some portables like the Ghost MV1 and Haze products which requires constant maintenance or performance drops.
Straight up... My favorite at home portable and really my main daily driver.
Pitfalls? Dialing in on settings will be hard for some. Overall package isn't as slick for portability as something like Haze, Ghost, or even Fury/Fierce. Glass pieces can break.
What the hell are these selling for these days? If you don't already have one, i would seriously consider getting one. Power and flavor beast with little to almost no maintenance needed. End rant ya'll and back to vaping.

Mica is chemically inert. It should not affect flavour at all.

Obviously taste/flavor is a bit subjective, and it is really close between old Z and current Z, but the tastebuds still seem to like the newest mica free version just a little bit more. As to the "why", i have no idea. Mica seemed to be the only factor i could think of.

Interestingly, my CustomZ has mica and may taste even better than my SplinterV2 which uses ceramic! So I think I agree there is probably no actual difference lol

I dunno, there are so many things that can affect flavour that mica in the heating element definitely could throw off a flavour of its own. I know in nicotine vaping there's a definite difference in taste between stainless steel, kanthal, nichrome, etc. depending on which one you use for your coils; these things are probably too subtle for us to really detect without being supertasters or something.

I can definitely taste a difference between metals, the Stainless Steel heaters always taste noticeably better than the NiChrome heaters in my vapes.
The mica and ceramic here is just an insulator for the steel heating element, while in original prototypes it was glass.
This is what I've been thinking but if you smell near the device while heating it does have quite a strong odor to it which I'm going to assume is the Mica as for when I'm inhaling I can't quite taste anything different.

Well my splinter z arrived but with the internal glass cracked around the rim.

I just stuck it on an old mod using 40 - 45w & away I went.
It’s good for quick on demand hits at home but does need a short warm up.
I need to do one 10 second warm up from cold with the stem in to get a nice hit.
Reading the thread here it looks like you don’t wanna knock it over which is easy to do, so I’ll try to lay it down when I’m not using it.

How do I set up TCR on a Rx Gen 3?.
I understand to set mod to TCR then I can change the wattage but don't seem to be able to change the temp range?. And I've just put it on TCR M1 I'm taking M1 M2 M3 are just pre stored settings I can save?.

Connect the mod to your PC, Search online for Arctic Fox, Download NFE Tools first, and then go to 'Firmware' and flash Arctic Fox, which is compatible with the RX GEN 3.
With the Arctic Fox you'll have the ability to change TCR mode, from your pc (much more convenient than configurate it from the mod itself)
Set TCR to 120
Watts to 60
Enable Temperature Domination, Starting at 190

Bought the long XL8R and it made my experience with the Splinter_Z even better. I agree with what many said already , the Easy Flow cooling mouthpiece delivers a considerably cooler vapor, but it's quite a bitch to clean and just too easy to destroy the internals so fat finger me did it after just a few weeks. The XL8Rs cooling effect is absolutely fine for me and I enjoy the smaller drawing resistance compared to the EF piece way more than I miss the EFs slightly cooler vapor. I also found myself enjoying the taste of the XL8R a lot more than with the EF. I paid 35 Euros for the thing including shipping which is a lot of money but I found it absolutely worth it.
I should mention I got my Z from @VapeFiend.com in January 19 and it came in an plain cardboard box so I would guess it's a custom.

What is the mod? I never really need to preheat at 45w with my Z on RX G3D, especially not for 10 seconds... Not sure heater should be engaged that long without drawing ideally. Glad it is working well for you though with your mod
Be careful with watts at 60, I know TCR doesn't typically use the highest, but I think it was said max should be 50...
