A little loose in the Splinter, but fits none-the-less.
That's actually something I've been wanting to know about! My XL8R stem is just a tiiiiiny bit wobbly in my Z. It's nothing I worry about but it's curious.
I have a few 22mm adapters that I had custom made. One has a slight wiggle, but it is not the length. That joint is very slightly out of round so doesn't fit quite as tightly as my others. It seals fine, no air slips past it, so it isn't a problem, it is just not a perfect fit. That could be the issue with some of these other joints.

Is that the new one which doesn't work as butane vape?

Yeah you'll be fine, all of the cooling stems will fit a Z, only the earliest US ones were not 19/19, but they were still Z sized. And any custom one can work as a vape, with the glass thick enough, the standard Chinese ones may be too thin to try though. You also may not want to use one you use as a stem as a vape, I think it affects it a bit... Haven't tried myself.

Yeah, and I have a couple stems that are a little wobbly but not too long and do fit, they are airtight, but there is just a lot of variance with glass. as I've mentioned before, maybe it was in this thread or the main splinter one, but I posted that photo of a bunch of different 18.8mm stem joints together, which all fit my custom Z and Milaana II (but not my standard V2)

I have 2 stems that fit it my Splinter V2 and are too long for a custom high-flow splinter??

If you're talking about a regular custom high-flow splinter, then it probably came from that first batch of 19/19 ones that RBT made before the China models came out, another good example of glass variance depending on the source

So I just put a rimless screen in a long smoked standard (19/19) xl8r and it locks perfectly in the Splinter. When using a regular rimmed basket the male joint had been a smidgen too deep and it didn't quite seat right. The rimless seem to hold a bit less material than the rimmed screens, but that's not necessarily a bad thing (for me anyway.) Sorry if this is veering off topic.

He is probably suggesting that the heating and cooling may cause damage to the glass over time. That is frankly why I wouldn't dream of doing this, even if I didn't tend to burn myself on hot metal or glass. I got mine specifically as a cooling stem and I hope it last a long while.

Simple is the way
Curiosity got the best of me when I first got my XL8R I used it with a torch about 5 times before I had a nipple crack. Id originally torched it to clean it out. Worked really well, plugged the dirty stem into a bubbler and torched all the reclaim in a few huge rips. Then I started playing with flower. Then I cracked a nipple. I may have kept the torch in one place to long and caused stress. I dunno. It’s not like it came with instructions.

Sorry to hear about that, is it the thick custom one?

Yeah there was another reason aside from cracks even if I recall correctly, not sure how, but some slight change to the glass? Maybe if you keep it clean before switching uses there is no issue there...

I have 2 stems that fit it my Splinter V2 and are too long for a custom high-flow splinter??

The internal diameter of the V2 seems to be greater than of the custom high-flow. This let the stems go deeper in the V2, makes em don't fit :(

That's where a bit of teflon tape might come in handy or is this more than a millimeter? .

It's really hard to measure exactly, even with a measuring stick, but think a Teflon Tape or a rolling paper should work :)

Tragedy has struck. I went to unscrew my Z from my mod for the first time since it was attached and the bottom connection plate seems to have un-adhered from the rest of the vape module. My Z just spins in place on its plate but I have no way to unscrew it. Seems to have affected the resistance too as my temp settings no longer seem to produce reliable results.

Guess it's time to reach out to vgoodiez...

Remove the batteries from the mod to avoid any accidents.

If you put downward pressure on it while turning you might be able to unscrew it. Once you get it off the mod box, you can repair this yourself with some Krazy Glue or similar. This was a common problem with early beta test Splinters and I and a few other testers did this repair. I can't speak for the others but my beta Splinter has been fine ever since.
