Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

I ate about a half gram of rosin (made from good bud) that i decarbed (95-100c for 20 min) and mixed with coconut oil and lecithin

It was not as intense as i had hoped for, more of a mellow stone.

Any tips for intensifying my edibles further?

Ive been looking to purchase a rosin press (been talking with @MinnBobber) and have been wondering: rosin tek has been out for several years....do you think that the price point of these presses will go down, or have we reached a point where prices have stabilized and dont expect press prices to be much cheaper..looking at some DIY, it seems like it cant get much cheaper...buy a Dake or Harbor Freight, some plates and controllers (which all seem to be around $200-500), making a decent press around $600-1000
My build if you look further up in the thread, was about $300-$350 CAD (ie. ~$235 - $275 USD) ... machined my own plates and built my own controllers though from scratch :)

My 10-ton bench press for $160 CAD from Canadian Tire (discontinued price) is identical to the 10-ton benchtop one I've seen advertised from Harbor Freight, Princess Auto,, etc., etc.

So absolute rock-bottom price for DIY of something reasonable w/ proper PID temperature control is <$275

The only thing I want to change is I'm going to get a local machine shop to build me some round plates I believe (I don't feel like trying to machine them on my own ... round would be too much of a pain!)

@Hackerman if I could encourage you to do a writeup on a cheap diy setup. That would be a huge benefit to those who enjoy building but also those who want to save a couple hundred bucks! That's real savings.
If you look further up in the thread, you will also find that I did a write up on my build (I believe quite a bit of detail). I did detail all the electronics and even post a schematic :)

Thanks :) ... looking to replace my Inkbird PID's with Omron E5CC's when I have the cash though ... those can be had for ~$50 each ... or maybe a custom dual controller that I've been working on that I can control from my mobile using Bluetooth or WiFi (Raspberry Pi Zero based ... ... finishing the Bluetooth stack implementation as well as want to replace my standard PID algorithm w/ a 2-DOF PID algorithm .. I believe that's what they are using in the Omron's which is what makes them so much more accurate then the standard cheap PIDs)

With my custom implementation I also have the added benefit of being able to add multiple thermocouples for a single plate to take avg readings or other (or max ... some things to ponder ... lol)

Can someone recommend a temp probe to measure the heat on the plates.....Looking for something reliable but wont break the bank....do those meat thermometers work well?

They work and they are relatively accurate. The metal probe has to come up to temperature from contact with the plates. This works a bit faster when probed into meat for cooking as the entire probe is getting saturated with the heat, versus just the tip.

I use a k-type thermocouple, a javelin probe meat thermometer and finally an IR gun thermometer. The IR gun appears to be the least accurate. The k-type thermocouple and the javelin probe thermometers both take at least 30-45 seconds to give you a stable accurate temperature.

It's about the same as above except the probe is a soft wire instead of that metal probe. So, I just drilled a small hole in the plate and inserted a self tapping screw with this wire on it into the hole.

I also use a contact thermometer directly on the face of the plates and they are always within 2 or 3 degrees of each other.

Price is certainly right.

Nice again! WTF are you doing that your rosin is so pale everytime? It seems not caused by strain, temp or heating time!? At least these factors don't differ from those of other squishers here on the first view!?

I too am very interested. One thing I have noticed is that the fresher the material is the lighter the colour.

Maybe if it has been left to ripen for longer (more amber trics) it is darker?
 
Color is very much strain dependent. Pressing too hot or too long will always darken whatever you have but from what I have pressed, I found strain to be the biggest factor in color.

His press looks little 'waxy'. Mine gets like that if I press at real low temps.

Age or maturity of the buds make a difference as well. Rosin pressed after 6-8 weeks from harvest does not look like rosin pressed fresh. It's generally stiffer too. But I find no real difference in quality.

Absolutely. The fresher is definitely lighter in color.

Someone told me FRESH FROZEN was the way to go. I didn't know that he meant to take the fresh frozen pot and make dry sift hash and press the hash. I pressed the fresh frozen flowers right out of the freezer..... LMAO. OMG! what a watery mess. However, the rosin was very very light.

Lately I tend to do small batch unbagged squishes, preferably with choice colas.
This material is relatively fresh which makes it look hashy like live rosin. We noticed some of the pre-pressed flower was coming out darker. I pre-pressed some super lemon haze the other day which came out darker off the press but seemed to start clearing up a few days later.

Hey guys, I'm considering investing in a rosin press kit. Do you foresee the costs of these kits coming down even further over time with new innovations coming out from new competitors? I'm not in a huge rush to buy but know I will want to invest in one sooner or later. What better time to buy than now right?

Have you guys noticed a trend in prices tumbling for the smaller kits geared towards at home users. I plan on a 3X5 or 3X7 plate for my personal needs. I'm very new to squishing scene and only have experience with my lady's hair iron. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Presses prob won't see the demand/production volume needed to see any major drops in pricing. Current prices should remain stable for some time. There are cheaper smaller units like the Tarik presses(haven't used these but heard they're not that good and better to invest in a more robust setup). So in short, if you're wanting to make your own rosin there's no time like the present!

These are the two best all around options I've come across if not going the DIY route. Both can be used as an enail as well, making them a "press and vape" all-in-one kit. Prices are in Canadian$ fyi.

I've tried fresh frozen and squeezed a soupy mess, lol. Actually it was a day after harvest, then pre pressed into pucks and frozen for a couple days before being squeezed.

For my early pressed buds, now days I'm waiting until they're about ready to jar up. I go from hanging branches of trimmed buds, to destemmed buds in paper bags, then into jars that get burped daily for a while. So my early squeezed buds are maybe 3-10 days from harvest depending on the humidity. The rosin is generally light in color, and most squeezes tend to butter quickly.

I actually prefer squeezing aged mature buds. They make darker rosin, and maybe yield a little less, but they are easier to work with, vape smoother, with about the same effects. The terpenes may not be as strong tho.

The cured stuff is super stoney there's just a lot of market hype for fresh frozen which the processors push cause it's easier to do.

Is fresh frozen considered Live Rosin? Is that what you cats are talking about?

EDIT: Disregard, you guys aren't making live rosin. Just realized that means pressing Ice Wax.
