As the still-proud owner of (now-dead) Skeleton & Flux Deluxe, I recently acquired a Wand; memorizing the manual still leaves me w/ questions. Answers are scattered all over, so here: a thread specifically for getting the most & best out of the new gear - DynaVap (& -alikes), and dabbing.
I may be in a legal state, but house rules explicitly state “none o‘ *that* in the house”, so I will have to go somewhere (less legal) to speak on the Wand’s dabbing skills). This post will cover 3 days w/ flower & wax.
The Wand is serious business: by itself, it makes you look like you have a weapon or vibrator in your pocket; it is large (8x2x1” roughly), and it is heavy. It’s also cheaper than the other IHs. General impression of lasting sturdiness (but I hope I don’t drop it much!)
Operation is straightforward: 5 presses on the big button for on & off, ‘on’ greets you w/ ‘iSpire’ & version # on the small display, along w/ the current (last) temp setting. The 2 small buttons are for UP TEMP (top) & DOWN TEMP (bottom)
To heat: VapCap into the included adapter, press & hold big button until it’s ready to hit, release button, release button.
That’s manual mode.
Auto mode, is 2 presses on the big button (TBB), turns on blinking light in the heater well; insert VC, remove to hit. It will time out before I get done w/ a hit, making auto better for sharing than for reheating
Simple…but: what temperature for *what*?
Here’s where things stop being so simple.
Not knowing where to start, I chose 420F: it took a long time. I saw & smelled (flower) vapor escaping before the cap ever clicked. Second heat was same but ok, third heat gave me charcoal. VC used for flower was the Lockdown Omni, full-bowl, loose-pack
Switched to Lockdown M for wax. Temp = 710F (h/t to 710 Coils). Again, heard it sizzling, saw/smelled vapor, pulled before click, got 2-3 good hits. Second heat gave weaker results even after waiting for cap click. Wax amount ~3x the states official ‘wax starting point’ (ie, not much)
First conclusion is that ‘going for a quick lift’ is not a simple thing; second, I’ll have to get used to waiting, and get used to pulling it early; third, figuring out temp settings is CRUCIAL
It sure seems like it’s just not as aggressive as I’m used to (FD would click a fresh bowl in 5-7 sec), but that isn’t necessarily a fault; @TST, getting the temp settings bracketed feels like the way to avoid guesswork & waste.
If anyone has worked out temperature ranges that play well with the cap click, please post them here, w/ commentary.
Also, anyone using their Wand for bangers, etc, please stack up some experience here for us to learn from & add to, in turn
