But the wik surface isn't on the SIC Halo.

The D-nail SIC Halo does have WIK surface.
The one I purchased last year has WIK.
The one I purchased this week has WIK.

ps - Don't worry my fellow dab-surface-neurotics, my original SIC Halo Is fine. The new one is only a backup. You know... just in case... I don't have to explain it to you guys. I'm fine right?!? Right?

According to D-Nail:

WHAT IS THE WIK™ SURFACE?
Our Wik™ surface is a special texture used on D-NAiL® sapphire inserts and the new Quartz HALO™.

Here is the write-up on the Science of it all:

You definitely don't have to explain it to me! You're all good here!

My SiC Halo is a few months old and it's very smooth

I'm pretty sure mine is full of very teeny tiny "pits", but i'll have to look closer!

I still find it fascinating that some with the d-nail sic halo and quartz halo prefer the quartz? Or am I imaging things?? Perhaps it's the WIK! :brow:

I'm not sure exactly what it is, if it's the material or if it's the dimensions/shape (ie. the 0.5mm diameter difference and perhaps different "edges" on the inside and outside) that makes the difference … but I've switched in the NV dish on both the D-Nail Halo base and the VROD twice since my last posting, and both times was underwhelmed, then switched back to the D-Nail dish, and voila :) ... much better again …!

Thanks for the update @JCat! That's pretty cool. I wonder how similar the D-nail SiC halo is vs the High Five SiC halo... could be identical (both 28mm)... maybe not... and no JCat, i'm not buying one just to see!

@StormyPinkness where you at? Rumour has it you have a new kick ass bubble cap for your banger, and are hard at work in the lab doing SiC halo vs quartz banger show downs!? :brow:

My SiC Halo is a few months old and it's very smooth... Nothing on D-nail's site indicates the SiC Halo having Wik technology.

Both the new and the year-old SIC Halo look identical.
The inside bottom surface is covered in what looks like record grooves. Concentric circular wiggly grooves exactly like a vinyl record.
It is only on the bottom inside surface. The walls and outside surfaces are smooth.
I assumed the wiggly grooves is what WIK technology looked like.
What do the sapphire and quartz Halos WIK surface look like?

Hmmm... SIC. WIK or not WIK?

I always thought those grooves were left over machining marks. But then my wife tells me I'm wrong quite a bit.

Calling all D-nail Sapphire Halo and Quartz Halo with WIK surface users.

What does the WIK look like on your Sapphire or Quartz Halos?
Does it look like the grooves on a vinyl record?

What are the wiggly concentric grooves on the SIC Halos' inside bottom surface? All other surfaces are smooth. Whatever process put them there, it was done purposely. What are they?

Machine marks? Somewhere I got the idea the SIC Halos are molded from powder with high pressure and heat. The wiggly concentric grooves in my SIC Halos do not look like they are machined into surface. They look like they are molded in. But, I also don't see any mold parting lines or cosmetic finishing to remove molding marks. Molded and machined?

Somehow I thought SIC had WIK. Thanks for pointing out my blissful ignorance / bursting my bubble. :-)

I haven't done a side-by-side yet and they both produce such great flavor I don't think I could pick unless I did. It's not coming down to which one is better but which one I like using more, to me at least. As of now I want to keep both. I really, really like them both.

Looking to upgrade my rosin experience and have decided on this

http://www.d-nail.com/vaporizers/220v/220v-flat-coil-heater

http://auberins.com/images/Flat Coil with Universal Nail_w.jpg

Should I grab the dnail flat which seems to be double thickness or will the auber flat coil do the job for me?

I am getting a Halo sic and this auber...

https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45&products_id=484

The reason I ask is that the one from auber is $45 and the dnail one is $80 if I buy it with the sic or $90 alone

Is the extra ring of coil worth the extra money?
I use the one I got from auber with mine and am very happy, I haven't tried a d-nail coil though so I can't compare them. Just thought I'd chime in to say the auber one definitely keeps me happy.

Thank you! That's already valuable feedback as you aren't the first to say not to get rid of the SiC after trying an opaque quartz! Happy to hear that you are appreciating both! :)

I had been using the banger a ton and it was all set up, but when I was in a hurry I switched out my banger for my sic halo. It's easy to do large amounts in 1 hit extractions and still get amazing flavor and just q-tip and leave. It's also easy to get it up to temp quickly and I don't really think the sic halo needs a heat soak so no waiting.

I'm just saying for me, I tend to take more time using my banger, I'm sure other people are faster/slower with each. Again I'm pretty flippin' pleased with both.

Also damn it I get attached to vapes I spend a lot of time with, this thing has been so awesome for so long...

Any new developments in the lab lately? :brow: I found an old post from @Monsoon that suggested using a glass low profile reducer as a carb cap http://www.planetvape.ca/glass-18mm-to-14mm-reducer-lowpro.html

And holy smokes does it work well! Perfect fit and it's awesome to be able to throttle air flow with the finger tap, and super ergonomic and just awesome! I can't even believe the flavour i'm experiencing and don't think I could go back to the D-nail Ti cap now!? :o It's SO much SMOOTHER and TASTIER!!!

So now i'm even more interested in an all glass setup, though with my dislike for quartz maintenance i'm leaning toward SiC and Sapphire inserts.

And here I was thinking my VAS is over... :rofl:Back to the lab!

PS. anyone know if there are any actual designed glass caps made for the 28mm halo?

EDIT: My Gen 2 D-nail carb cap is now useless to me. It's been officially REPLACED by the glass reducer! :D I swear i'm getting more medicated due to smoother vapour! And this flavour OMG!!

Word up to that! That's how I felt just changing my flowerpot bowl from Ti to glass.

FadeSpace has SiC inserts, been pretty damn curious about them!

Yep, the SiCs. Shane, wasn't you looking yourself for them? Any news?
BTW wouldn't it make sense to also offer the terp pearls in 5mm? Seems to be a better size for the 25mm inserts and the 28mm NV/D-Nail inserts.

You sound like me when I got my glass symphony (one of the main reasons I'm trying bangers again). That's interesting about the glass, I'm going to have to try that with some of my reducers. I remember using a glass lid from a flower jar once and it was a pain, that was because of the airflow though since it didn't have a hole in the middle.

I'm still loving my quartz and sic, I'm ordering something from d-nail today actually. Though I will say I find cleaning the sic easier, there's some black marks in the corners of the banger I haven't been able to get rid of. Even after several days soaking in warm iso and probably around 30 minutes total in an ultrasonic cleaner. I think other people manage to keep it totally clean by just staying on top of it, I let it go between cleanings for too long. It's amazing how clean I can get the sic halo with just a wet q-tip. I don't think the marks affect flavor or anything, I can just see it really clearly and it bugs me. I've seen posts about some crystal cleaner thing I'm going to try.

I also just got clear quartz inserts, I'm trying them out now. I like up-temping with the sic halo more for now, but I've only done it once or twice and I'm dialing in my temp still. I'm going to get some opaque quartz ones when they're available , I like the idea of using those to keep the banger clean too.

Also I got a quote for 5mm sapphire spheres for the sic halo, I just need to call them and pay for it. I'm really looking forward to trying those out, I'm getting some 6mm for the 30mm opaque banger too. I've been trying out lot's of a new stuff lately, it's been great.

Have a good day everyone.

Gotta ask, have you tried torching them away?

Thanks for the rest of your feedback, it truly is valuable to me. I'm pretty sure i'm going forward with the banger setup from 710coils, but damn this SiC is so much incredibly better with the glass cap, that i'm not sure the banger is worth it just to get rid of the teeny tiny bit of Ti remaining. I think the cap makes a much bigger difference.

Wish D-nail made a GLASS CAP! Would completely change the game, and WORTH the breakability!

@biohacker I wonder if the Highly Educated quartz cap fits?

If it did i'd be buying one or probably two! The lowpro glass reducer is a very "manual" process. That hole is huge, and you need to learn how to "milk it". It just keeps blowing my mind every single time, in my perfect trifecta of criteria (FES) -> Flavour, Effects, Smoothness!
