Just grab a High Five 28mm SiC halo and base from
@PlanetVape They will take care of you and super reasonable international shipping. The halos are identical, the bases are both 18/14 combos, but the high five looks more stable than the d-nail slim series, just more thermal mass. Who knows if D-nail even exists as a company anymore, i've heard rumours of folding and buyout. I'm still waiting for my 14mm male base, and not really expecting to get it at this point anymore.
I hope those prices are negotiable. Robbery like that should be a crime.
I heard the same rumours … about a potential buyout … but I did email them a week or two ago about our 2 14mm slim bases and they got back to me in about a day (very reasonable) saying they had a batch of parts come in out of spec that they had to send back … but I'm 1st on their list when they get them in stock
We'll see
@biohacker … I also talked to Ed @ NewVape about making a 14mm base (not a combo one), and he seemed very receptive to the idea. NV also has a 14/18 combo base for a very reasonable price that looks like a great option; for carb cap I think the D-Nail one is still king here though … I'm hopeful NV comes out with something. I do find the flat coil directly on the dish to be very much superior to the VROD with the wrap-around coil … much better heat transfer and just overall works much better and can go lower temperature with much less/no pooling.
The only thing here I'd like to mention, and this is the first I say about it, as I really wanted to be sure before I say anything, but I think the D-Nail dish works
SIGNIFICANTLY better than the NewVape 28mm SiC dish ... I haven't said anything because I kept changing things around trying to see if I was missing something, as that seemed to be what was making the most difference, but it didn't seem like a likely culprit; I kept thinking it must have to do with my install of the dish on the base (D-Nail Halo or V-ROD), but the D-Nail dish has consistently, every single time, performed much better than the NV dish all other things being equal.
I do very much like the V-ROD and the D-Nail base, although I'm mostly rosin these days so am using the D-Nail more, that being said, I can do some killer twax bowls using my e-Nail Magic device to step my temps accordingly for me
… ie. both are great devices …
If I had either base with the NV dish vs the D-Nail dish, I'd have to increase my temps by a good 50 deg and still get inferior performance … very strange … I mean it's got an extra 0.5mm diameter, so that hardly seems like it could cause it … must be more to it … total volume of the dish does seem quite a bit bigger, and there might be differences with the angles of the sides to the bottom of the dish etc., but at any rate, I'm extremely surprised to find that the dish is the biggest difference in my opinion; and I thought the result of getting the NV dish would be that I would be recommending everyone by that one for the price difference, but I in fact have come to the opposite conclusion. I would gladly choose the D-Nail dish for $100 over the NV dish thrown in for free; that being said, the NV dish is excellent ..
… it's just that when going to it coming off the D-Nail one when doing direct comparisons, the difference between the 2 is extremely apparent …
Still testing … but this is a couple (few?) weeks worth of comparison …
