Aw man that sucks!Sad times..my beloved is down....red and yellow lights....83 hours on the clock...Out comes to the rescue my EQ, had not used none of my others toys since buying the Crafty.
I am a new Crafty owner with a problem. I have 4 hours on the meter. I have done about 15 bowls at 360 deg. F. Mostly I have just been cycling the unit, empty, at the max setting, trying to get rid of the anomalous taste. It hasn't gone away. It is somewhat better after the high temperature cycling, but not really very satisfactory. I am afraid that I'm a bit disappointed. In reading through the comments here I see quite a bit of early concern with off-taste, but nothing specific on what to do, other than just use it. How much more do I have to use it, in order for the taste to improve? Is there something I can be doing, beyond what I am doing?

I would contact S&B if it's off gassing anything other than stinky cooling unit smell.
Mine had absolutly no odd taste new, and mine is an old model # 000545
After reading again, doesn't look like you have even used it with bud ??? does it have 4 hours on it just trying burn off the smell ??

My S5 excepted the 5.0 update last night.
I beleive we have to send the unit back for a firmware update to get the app working again. Is this correct ??
Maybe boil or do a 30 minute or less ISO bath of the CU? Mine starts to start skanky after 3-4 hours of use.
If I heat the Crafty without any herb, then remove the cooling unit from the body and smell both the cooling unit and the bowl, the bowl and body have a smell that reminds me of the off-taste. Less so for the cooling unit. I'm pretty sure that the taste and smell are coming up from the body and through the bowl. I will do as you suggest, but I am not optimistic that the taste is coming from the cooling unit.
The air path for the crafty starts just above the power button in the middle of the larger tube then goes through a tube straight to the bowl so its totally separate from the electronics and the heater is on the outside of the tube.
If the smell is coming from the body while your cu is cleaning it could be worth giving the insides of the bowl (metal part) a wipe with some ISO on a cotton bud/cue tip, hold the crafty upside down while doing this so nothing drips down into to unit, although if it drips you have used too much ISO a little goes a long way.
While non of this might help its just some things to try before having to send your unit off, the lesser of two evils.
Turn the unit updside down and swab the bowl with ISO and a Q Tip.Do you want me to remove the bowl and clean the pathway underneath, or just clean the bowl itself

This isn't normal... You should be enjoying flavor city with this vap !!
Oli I hope you have as good of experience with customer service as I did. ( other than its very hard to talk to someone in tech support without waiting for a next day call back. ) every other bit of their service felt very premium to me. Including, as many on here have stated, a very quick turn around. I recieved mine back in 6 days. And in my case they sent me a brand new one back because their techs spotted a problem I hadn't even complained about or knew existed! I call that being on the ball!
Tip...if you want or need a real person and you are getting nothing but answering machines, use the dial zero option in their menu. I always got a person when I did. She answers the phone as their "Switchboard operator" or answering service or something. I can't quite remember what she identified herself as. The exact terminology I mean, but she does have the ability to look up your account and see if your device has been looked at yet and can answer other related questions.
Oli would you mind sharing your temperture habits? At 83 hours I'm wondering if you are a "Hot vaporist or not. ( not hot looking. Haha. Not trying to pick up on anyone here!) I've been trying to pay attention to see if using this thing "hot" significantly reduces life span. I rarely used mine off of default and I got 110 out of mine and it was still working. It just had its CU brackets bust off. I wonder if higher temperature uses cause excessive wear and reduce the life of the unit.

What's the serial of your unit?

Received a call back from S&B a day after I left a voice mail regarding the upgrade to Mighty. Not possible, unless there is an actual issue with the Crafty and it's on a case by case basis. Very professional and I was impressed that they even called me back considering some of the horror stories i've read here. Seems to me like S&B have awesome customer service!
Or you wait until your Crafty dies and upgrade it then to the Mighty!? Like I understood they can upgrade when the Crafty has an issue...i tried this few weeks ago - upgrade from crafty to mighty. I ask SB if there´s any possibility of paying the difference in price and changing crafty for mighty but the answer was the same as for you. These ex-changes are forbidden because of theirs intern politics of something like that. After that i tried to ask them if they cant take my crafty and use is as a warranty replaceable one for someone but the answer stayed at NO! I have no other chance then sell my lovely crafty underpriced and get mighty.
Just the bowl itself, to remove the bowl to get to the pathway you would have to open your crafty up and void your warranty.
So just the metal sides of the bowl, or if your feeling adventurous you could remove the screen in the bowl that covers the 8 holes and clean that part too but i would try the cu and sides of the bowl first and see if that helps, if it does help but still a little taste then maybe try under the screen before S&B.
I was only describing the air path to help you understand whats under there to cause smell, and that the electronics are separated.
And after cleaning try a lower temp to get some of that natural flavour coming through start at something like 160-170°c.
There is a video on YouTube called something like 'whats inside the crafty' if thats something of interest, but I'm only suggesting this to watch remember if you open your crafty you loose your warranty.
Sorry sometimes i don't explain things the way i want to in my head, i get lost in thought and wander a bit
Edit: Its 5am here and I'm pretty baked so I'm a little slow
