CCA Liger banger V3.0

So I got a dropdown adapter to help protect my piece while dabbing and help trap reclaim and keep it from infiltrating the main piece. I've recently noticed from videos pics that not many folks seem to use these with the Liger. What gives? Is it unnecessary overkill? Does the Liger not allow reclaim to pass through? Should I forgo the pre-cooler/ash catcher stage of my rig as well?
I use a drop down w my Liger always

Oooooh, you went ahead and swung for the fences! Congrats!!

I certainly didn't intend for it to go this way but I couldn't resist

They both seem to be well made products from dedicated owners, and priced amazingly well considering the local headshop has an errlectric at $650 and digital D-Nails at $800+!

I'll take a Liger + Hex Nail over those any day.

Thanks again to all the folks who have contributed to this thread as well as helped point me in the right direction. I'll be on a 30mm Liger for the foreseeable future, but I'm stoked!!

You'll get some reclaim from the Liger, although quite a bit less than with a quartz nail, for example.

Using a dropdown is totally up to you. Many like to use them to avoid any danger of cracking handmade heady joints, to save reclaim, or to make their rigs more stable. These aren't issues for me so I don't use them anymore. Getting the best flavor has made me pretty obsessive about keeping rigs clean, too, so I don't like pulling through reclaim every time I dab.

IMO the ashcatcher is overkill for oil. Most of us agree that less diffusion is better for flavor.

So I just received a response from CCA710 to my support ticket asking for replacement sapphire and Obsidian inserts.

"Just heard from the owner:

There is no risk on the 20mm Sapphire! if it cracks we will replace it no worries.

The small bump is normal on the OBSIDIAN and will not effect the functionality in any way. We really have to meet a certain standard in order to keep the price point low. If we were to ensure every OBSIDIAN was a glass finish it would cost more than 2-3x the price.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with."

This is really disappointing as I've spent over $1,500 with CCA710 in the last 6 months and they are refusing to replace $500 worth of crappy inserts.

I anticipate the Obsidian insert being difficult to swab out because the spot that protrudes in the center of the dish feels like it would catch on the Q-tips. I also don't want a scuffed and scratched $300 sapphire insert, even if they'll replace it if it breaks.

I have received a replacement for a cracked sapphire insert. It’s a legit guarantee that he stands behind.

Was that because you got a defective insert that he guaranteed or does that guarantee apply to all sapphire inserts? I've seen others post about cracking them and using them cracked so I didn't think they were guaranteed in any way.

lazylightning,
There was no guarantee when I purchased it. I will say that both of my 20mm sapphire inserts now have cracks but they are still ‘usable.’ I never got either wet/shocked them, just used them a lot. I think it’s just very fragile. I have an Obsidian insert I use now.

Have you gotten your Obsidian yet? Im wondering how the fit is as you've said your v2 dish has no wiggle whatsoever and Im curious if its the dishes or the bucket.
Oh, yes...I did. Fits perfect. No problem whatsoever. Main differences I see are the high polish of the dab surface and the rounded corners at the bottom (from the walls to the dab surface) which makes cleaning it up a breeze.

I don't know that it has any clear, hard advantage to cause someone with SiC to go out and buy Obsidian, but I wanted two inserts (just in case and I already had the SiC) and I'm happy with my purchase of the Obsidian.

Haven't had a chance to run thermometer tests to see if it cut down the coil/dab surface delta so that's still an open question.

Mine sure as hell doesn't have a bump in the middle and is indeed a glass finish. WTF?

The fact they are "guaranteeing" the, and lets just be honest at this point, the already obviously defective/substandard/not whats in the picture for $325on the website insert......when they repeatedly lose all contact with customers, for long periods of time, on a semi regular basis......is BS. Costcos nearly unbeatable return policy would be WORTHLESS if they were randomly shut down for weeks at a time through the year. Show me any form of commerce or trade where someone should openly accept flawed items or merchandise on a limp wristed assurance you're covered. If they posted to the items description on the website, CLEARLY, that this item may arrive LITERALLY broken, then Id be 100% ok with it......but that is not the expectation going in to ANY purchase Ive EVER made in my life and definitely not one from somewhere with "aerospace tolerances" and quality assurance.

So you're saying the V2 bucket is the "magic" in the setup that has you being, still to date in my knowledge the ONLY person with a 100% snug insert setup with their Liger. Interesting but also what i expected, they prolly kept the inserts the same and gave more wiggle on the bucket as that has much more thermal expansion then the insert materials. Im pretty sure i asked before but how does it do against over boils?

When I got the Obsidian, I took my Liger completely apart for cleaning and there really wasn't any over boiling. Really nothing on the outside or underneath the insert.

Gosh, I don't think I'm the only one with a snug insert....I seem to remember in v2.0 days guys talking about not being able to get their insert out...perhaps just reclaimed in place but??

I'm a v2 user and purchased when it first came out. Use both Quartz and sic. Snug, nothing ever sticks, and never got anything below the inserts.

Hey all. Longtime lurker and finally about to purchase a v3 30mm liger bundle with the obsidian insert. Few quick questions tho.

I’m a big user for brain tumor.

I use a Pelinail 1030 100w 120v XLR pin E-nail.

On their (pelinail) website it says compatible with shatterbox coils. I was digging the extra 2 feet of cord on their coils. Looking at their flat coil. Will this work with a Liger?

And what is up with no dense clouds with 30mm? Do i have to run really high temps?

How long will it take to heat up. Looking at those wemo belting WiFi outlits.

They work with all flat coils.

Relatively dense clouds come from a good cap and the right temps, but they don't need to that high at all, I run low 500s most of the time.

Heating up fully to where you want it to be with a nice heat soak should take maybe 5-8mins, it is pretty big and if its cold, can soak up a lot of heat.

Thanks for reply. Funny, when I get this rig I wanted the 7 foot cord because I have to dab outside thru window with coil cable currently. It gets cold here. Will 40ish degree weather mess with my dabs outside?

Thanks you are like Dab Jedi or Dab Batman more like it. :)

Nah, one of the true benefits of the Liger is the increased mass from the thick bucket walls, core, shroud and the retaining plate so its not effected by environment as some other nails.....the flip side is it'll take a bit longer (few mins) for the whole unit to soak all the heat and get everything to stable level.

So I pulled the trigger on a 30mm 199$ bundle with Obsidean insert.

I also pulled the trigger on a shatterbox.com flat coil cause theirs had the widest ‘od’ at 29mm and cord was 7ft. Should be a compatible 5 pin XLR 120v 100w coil that works with my8 Pelican 1030 I picked up at HighTimes Cannabis Cup SoCal 2016. All the booths was running Pelinails...

So how tight should I screw this flat coil on? What tool works best?

Ordering a Belkn WeMo WiFi power outlet for it as well…

Is Obsidean insert really better than SiC ??? Not much info out ther.

As tight as you possibly can, no need to use pliers or anything but as tight as your hand can get it.

And yes its better, but not by any huge margin, again, the polish and smaller grain size of the obsidian sic itself seems to be the advantage.

Glad to see another Liger tamer, can't wait to hear your feedback once you get it

ensabbahnur,
I used needle nose pliers on the current style of flat locking nut to get it the rest of the way after using my hands. I probably got another third of a turn. I don’t know how necessary it was but it was doable and I’m not very strong. I barely marred the finish (two tiny dimples).

Think I will pick up a Silver 20mm Liger with Sapphire for $300. My Leisure family is sharing one Liger.

The 30mm liger tipped the small 14mm incycler over and broke the joint off in only 3 days! So bummed but the sapphire insert didnt break! I gotta find a glass repair now!

I also picked up the Wierdeer and Chadbro V2 caps. I like the Chadbro V2 a lot as it completely seals the 30mm Liger. No leaks at all when i put my finger over the hole. No complaints with this cap at all. As for the Wierdeer cap, I do like this one too. It isnt 100% sealed like the Chadbro. its more like 85% seals but my issue with this cap is the carb hole is too large letting in too much air.

I have to say, having a glass cap does make hitting the Liger even more enjoyable.
