Yes maybe I should have been more careful in my wording by adding "in my experience".

I don't know why, but I really haven't had any trouble with the perc. I sometimes use Rezblock, sometimes don't. I have used all sorts of different water in there (different states public water and bottled water, ect) with the same results.

As Sticks said, the only collection I get is in the bottom. When he tried it it was probably the longest I had ever let it go (in fact it was a bit embarrassing) but not much collection on top but the bottom was filthy.

Maybe we have some small variance in the way it is made that is making the difference? It certainly could be material. I never run erl through that tube, I have another setup for that.

Maybe I'm just lucky I guess. I'm with Sticks, who else has one of these? I know @Vape Dr. does. Where is your gunk collecting Doc?

Edit: @MinnBobber I use the @Ratchett plugs on all my glass. I have used ISO/salt, Pbw/hot water, and agent orange cleaner with similar results.

2nd Edit: and I thought long and hard about picking up that evolver as well but Christmas is coming and I gotta take care of my babies. :)

I have zero trouble cleaning the Hydrahoneycomb. It really shouldn't be any harder than other pieces. It's just a ring of honeycomb percs around the center barrel and they don't prevent iso from getting in there. I suppose if you use it for a long time without cleaning it and really let it gunk up, especially if you're using oil, then it might be a little harder, but I clean mine regularly and the only thing that makes it slightly more annoying than some is because of the leak-proof design, but that's minimal. No one should avoid buying this HT because they're afraid of cleaning it. I don't even use RezBlock. This isn't art. It's cleaning. It's fairly objective.

I love the function, too, btw. It's like the Turbine plus the honeycomb diffuser. You can vary the water level for less diffusion if you like, as well, either above or below the honeycomb.

EDIT: As others have pointed out, the biggest area where vapor condenses is where it runs into the top of the inside of the female joint on the bottom.

EDIT 2: ....aaaand they're gone. Looks like the Hydrahoneycombs are out of stock now as well, lol.

Anyone with the Turbine HT tell me how much water works best for flavor and long draws ? Sorry don't know the terminology for the parts in the HT .

@scottg402 My perc stays pretty clean for the most part as well.
Most of my gunk is collected in the hydro bomb base, especially when vaping shatter.

ive had the hydrahoneycomb for a few weeks now and love it. its a big volume hydratool compared to my swagger sidecirc, maybe 35% larger volume. great for huge rips.

i keep an empty cat litter tub full of pbw solution that i change out periodically. i soak the hydrahoneycomb for a few hours each day and it has stayed like new since i got it.

I've just been filling mine about halfway between the slits and the turbine.
I figured less water the better  but wanted to keep the slits covered.

Can anyone with any experience offer some insight as to whether the Quartz nails are worth the extra expense over glass and why? They are double the price here in the uk and I've just smashed my last glass one

I just made the same choice. I went with glass. I read a while back that the quartz were easier to clean but I just couldn't justify double the price. To me the advantage would have to be significant. I have been following the thread for a while and I don't recall any reports that I would classify as such so I went with glass.

My hydratree is filthy at the bottom, but the top is pretty clean. The bottom is pretty gunked up though, nice yellow film around. Needs cleaned, just bought some iso but I didn't want to clean it quite yet (also looks difficult)

I did clean though, right after writing the above, and it wasn't that hard. Just poured super hot water down from the top, then some iso, more hot water, flushed out from the bottom slits, got basically 98% of everything (one little smudge on bottom) top is perfecto though.

I haven't found the quartz nails to offer an advantage. I haven't tried but you may be able to torch the quartz version to clean? For the price, I'm nervous to try to torch them. I seem to get more residue in the bottom of the quartz ones, so I actually prefer the glass nails.

I notice that the glass nails WILL melt if you torch them a tad too long ;)
But if you're fairly careful and keep the glow to a minimum it doesn't seem to be an issue...

You can likely torch the living shit out of the quartz nails since their melting point is so much higher. A propane torch would likely clean it in seconds (but take care!).

I find that heating the EVO to the highest temperature with the glass nail in it for a few minutes cleans the nails great.

I did that at the end of my shatter video. This was before I had the hydro bomb base. I apoligize, I was sick at the time of the video. The EVO is also extremely efficient with concentrates.

@Budley Moore - I had a Matrix Ion for a couple of years and ran everything I had through it and loved it...very smooth hit with a great purr. However, after it broke and I got some other glass I realized how much taste that perc was stripping out. The matrix perc is great, but the ones in the vxl HT's have way fewer slits and don't steal as much flavor. I now like my cheap bubbler with a bird cage perc (similar to matrix but with fewer slits) better for vapor. The Ion was the absolute shit for smoking, though!

Do you have a link for what you use now? the cheap bubbler please? I do not want to lose all the taste..

If you just want a cheap & simple single perc from dhgate, the D020-D I linked previously is one of your cheapest options. Barely any draw restriction & smooth purr through the perc

Other slight variations:
The FC-187
The GB-187

[edit] The standard D020 (no-D) is even cheaper, but has an even simpler perc.

I have the D020 at home as I used to use it with my lotus. It does pair up well quite nicely with the Evo - good taste and not much draw restriction .

Using less water in my Turbine now as per your advice on the water level, so thanks for that. Way more flavor, less restriction when drawing- which is helpful when you want to clear the chamber.

Just realized today that since having my Evo, none of my other devices have even been turned on- poor little fellas.

Haha, ditto.
Since the helpful advice here I've been using my EVO exclusively and it's been kicking my ass :D
There have been a couple of early nights (and late mornings) lol :ko::zzz:

Supposed to having a weekend away in a couple of weeks and although the Mighty will probably suffice, I'm a little tempted to buy a case to take the EVO and glass instead

Got my quartz nails today :) they fit perfectly, am going to try it out right now after the nail cools down (just burned it off)

So, they work pretty well, but I keep putting too big of a dab in them. I get one great hit (same with the glass) then it seems to start shooting off a plume of crappy tasting vapor. Managed to finally get a great dab out the nail though, with minimal excess after that first great big heat that tastes good, I used a pinpoint though. Worked pretty well, pretty happy with it! Just burnt the fuck out my finger on the new quartz too :tup:so they have to be working kind of right

Yes very much so but the glass don't fit properly with my tube so perhaps I was never fully hitting it...then the dab would get hot and release that crappy taste. Find much better if I just try to kill it all in one hit, which I can only really do with the quartz

For what it's worth, I like the look/design of them more and they feel like they get hotter...they most certainly do as my glass one wouldn't melt carpet, pants, etc like the Quartz did lol

Also, since I got them today, I've only been using it... Nice using such small amounts

Personally having no issue with finishing off using glass ones myself, and they taste great in one hit. But they fit my HT. Guess I'll just need to drop 2X the cash for Quartz too see if there is a noticeable difference to flavour.

Cheers

Ok I couldn't resist the Quartz 5-pack price. Too ridiculous.

In other news, my green led doesn't work a bunch of the time, but the machine is still working so I can hardly part with it. I requested support but they want me to ship it away. Not yet, and not with the Quartz nails coming :-)

Has anyone else used the quartz and can identify the main differences from it and the glass besides getting hotter? I've had some really shitty first few experiences getting a dab rig up and functional in the past and I'm really hoping one of these Xnails is finally going to lure me into the world of concentrates! One thing is for sure, I'll never be bringing a torch into my home again, that's for sure!

Also all this talk about the Honeycomb being difficult to clean has got me a tad concerned. I didn't buy any RezBlock (although I am reading that thread as we speak) and figured I'll just be ok with distilled water? I plan on either cleaning the hydratube every other day or every single day. I'm really quite the perfectionist when it comes to things and if there was ever a problem area that wouldn't either wash out with Iso/salt or PBW it would really bother me. Do you guys think I'm going to be ok thinking my honeycomb can be kept clean everyday or is that too excessive?

Can't wait till it gets here. According to the tracking it should be here on or before Wed!:)

Don't waste your money on RezBlock, just get some Nature's Way Cranberry Extract (or NACE). Same ingredient, but much cheaper. Half the price, twice the amount.
