I think, once again, 'the Sage of the High Desert' has focused in on it. I'm also thinking 'technique' here. How come this one box is behaving so unlike the thousands of others? How many other owners are having problems with 'tasting like shit'? Or burning on the first hit? Time I think to review the basics? Dryness, grind, heat control, shaking the load, draw technique and so on?

Progress is, I think, at hand? Go, Vitolo, go!

So what's a guy gotta do to get his hands on one of the beta units of the concentrate adapters? Or at least see some pics?

I don't think we're allowed to ask for beta products here, I've seen a few mod notes on it? Not sure what the policy is.

Anyways they said they hoped to get it into beta phase around the 15th, I wouldn't be surprised if they're holding back for a little bit longer trying to get it as good as it can get.

Anyone wanna throw ideas around? What's it gonna look like? I think it's gonna be some sort of pad that you can set down inside the box...

The bud I use is finely ground up.. remember I use a buddha.. I'm aware of a vaporizers tendency to dislike dank/moister weed and big chunks.

put small amounts of finely ground dry weed in the launch box.. I've tried all different techniques involving holding the battery in and different draw speeds... and still the best flavor I've achieved from the MFLB has been, "unpleasant" at best.

*Note that the same weed tastes perfect when vaped in the Buddha.

I'm not sure Buddha taste is an accurate predictor here. They're two different schemes for openers. One has huge reserves of power, the other power starved.

Let's do some basic troubleshooting here, have you tried a different strain of bud? Do you have access to other LB owners and their boxes?

no thats why I'm here haha. my friends who vape own a buddha.. which I thought was so badass I bought one of my own.. and a volcano (I don't own a volcano).

No one I know has a MFLB.. but the reviews I read online were unanimously positive... but I'm pretty disappointed.

I'd be really interested in hearing from launch box owners who also use a Buddha.

And I've used two different strains of bud.. and some keef.. And even the keef tasted nasty.
haha.. and not to keep bragging about the frikken buddha... but keef vaped in the buddha... holy shit, the flavor is orgasmic.

    I guess I'm a flavor connoisseur ha

If the grind is fine then the problem is either your technique or the LB itself. There are units that run too hot, so you should check that with this method:

4.16 How can I tell if my Box is running too cool?

If it fails this test, then contact Magic-Flight for a warranty replacement. If it passes, then all I can suggest is that you read 9 Usage & Techniqueand make sure you watch the videos.

ETA: By the way, I buy these days with flavour as the most important criterion. I love my LB and I'm quite sensitive to taste. I can get at least 15 hits from the LB before the flavour starts to bother me. I suspect your LB runs too hot.

As you point out, a negative experience is pretty rare. And generally guys rate MFLB fairly high in taste as well. Two different strains, same issue.....

Thanks, time to think some more.

Oops, thought they were for sale similar to the way that the "beta" WPA were for sale prior to final release. Didn't mean to solicit any freebies.

I agree with you though, only thing that I can picture in my head is some sort of pad/box that sits on top of the mesh screen.

I user a DBV and the MFLB... and the MFLB tastes not unlike the Buddha.
Could there be a weird residue in the box?
Does it smell funny at all?
Some folks find short vapor paths to have an ultra bitter taste until they get used to it, or let the vapor hit another spot in the mouth.
Example. I tried the PD and thought it tasted terrible every hit.
I so wanted to get a Zap.. but the PD tasted bad!
    I figured out why...
I was aiming the stem at my tonsil, and the vapor tasted bitter.. this was due to short vapor path allowing heat to hit that one spot on my throat that translated the heat on that spot to "Bitterness" in my senses interpretation..
perhaps try the whip.. a 1 or two foot tube in an effort to lengthen the path and see if that helps.
If it is heat sensation like mine was.. you will suddenly get used to it!

Going to see Avengers tomorrow, and can't wait to take my LB's with me. Two LB's, with full trenches, should be good for the movies 2 hours and 20 minutes and travel time in the car. :)

Sounds like a plan, Vicki. Just don't forget the batteries......not that I ever would.

More than that one time, that is. A bad screw up on my part, it's not like you can duck into 7-11 and grab a few. Of course those combustion enablers are very happy to sell you overpriced papers......

Ah, maybe in an alternate universe, Bic has their name on individual peeled NiMH's...
I just remembered walking into a 7/11 once, and noticing one guy's name was "Indika". I asked him how to pronounce it (I couldn't believe it). "Like the weed", he replied.

I love that. I once used my Box in front of Jay Leno, but in back of the cameras. He was doing some outdoor interview. I didn't really gain much from it! It's just nice knowing I can use it just about anywhere, and not be noticed.

What's the weirdest place you've used yours in? I'm not even sure if "weirdest" is the right word for what I mean, but I think we know what I mean. :)

Oh wow, so many places. I've used it at the movie theatre before many times...Walmart, NASA Kennedy Space Center (always have to go through metal detectors and get my purse searched before entering and ALWAYS got it in), Orange County Convention Center during a Sci-Fi convention, amusement parks, the list goes on and on. I might even use it in the bathroom of a police department! Not that I really have any reason to go to a police department for any reason. :)

Of course not! All of the FC community seem to be composed of responsible and intelligent individuals... maybe even the quintessential member of society, sans the love for herb (according to them...)
I'd be too paranoid to use it in a police department though... Probably because I look suspicious... Long hair and trippy Tool shirts... I'd suspect me!

Any tips for getting through a metal detector? I'm taking my MFLB to a concert today, and I think there may be some metal detectors. I have my "camera batteries", but my MFLB doesn't really have an "alias", so hiding it would be best! I've tied one of my sweater's sleeves into a knot before, and just throw my stuff within the sleeve, and it works well, but I've only done that once.

I don't really have any tips. I was nervous going into NASA, but once I got through, I felt a lot better. Now I've gone in and out there many times without incident. I don't look very suspicious, so no one really ever messes with me.

I am in a wheelchair (which has a lot of metal), so if the detector ever goes off, they attribute it to the chair, I assume. I'm not sure if an LB would actually set off a detector.

    I have used the MFLB:
-In the supermarket driving the disabled "cart"
-Sitting in a crowded waiting room at a community dental clinic.
    -At the zoo.
-In a dozen fast food restaurants while waiting for a burger.
-In fine restaurants, while waiting for my food.
    -On line at the bank

I have a question , since i sold my mflb to a friend and he used it every day ,so the unit has seen much action and there is so much goo under the screen and "charcoals" and are so hard that ethanol cant do shit to them.. even when you heat the screen with the battery.. So my question is.. Can he get it replaced by MFLB company under warranty since the unit is still functional but is gooed to the point of no return..( trust me..) and that craps the taste and maims the overall function

I think he should contact them directly for that answer. FWIW I recall others doing just that, IIRC they wanted photos showing the serial number and box with the screen torn out (kind of like canceling a check...).

Kind of fun, really. Off hand I can't think of another similar product you can wear out and expect a replacement. It's had a lot of dollars (or whatever) in herb run though it at this point.....

Great little gadgets, pity to not have it performing 100%. I'd send 'em some email. Good luck.

Hello fellow Magic Flyers, I come with a question. I have a bottle of jojoba oil that I use to moisturize my stretched lobes (9/16".) Does anyone know if it would be safe for my box? I'd like to at least give it one oil, but I'm unsure if I should buy some organic coconut oil or if jojoba will suffice. Thanks!

Some eye candy of tonight's dessert.

When I get in a used Launch box from a community member.. that is dead filthy, I use "Goddard's Butcher Block Oil" on it .. I rub briskly with a paper towel moist with the stuff.. then when clean, I buff it dry.
