When are we gonna see Portable = perfect?

My bet is we'll need to wait at least until here are only 2 options left, as with computer OSes (Apple vs Microsoft)! That way the weaker player might try to compete in a niche of its own, the goal for reaching perfection usually being a noble one...

Indeed, so i'm going to put my individuality to some good use and think hard about a feature not much people would come up with:

Multiple Heater Elements

Why? Because i guess it wouldn't have a critical effect on the price tag of a 300+ $ product if the potential owners (and manufacturer) felt that this should improve reliability beyond the ordinary stuff... People like to comment that the HerbalAire is built like a "tank", for example. Imagine with redundancy where it counts most.

How would multiple elements help? Each element taken separately wouldn't be required to run as hot as the only element in a conventional device. Call it stress distribution, an other way to define "perfection".

Blazer makes excellent torches, and they're made in Japan instead of China, so there's a measure more quality there.

I think that must be taking some license with the term "manufactures and distributes"

I wouldn't be surprised if they made some in the US, but my ES1000 is labeled "Made in Japan"... all I can find are the same way - it's all quality, though. Edit to add: some of the models do have a candle flame, but sadly it's only the larger torches like the ES that allow you adjust the amount of air added to the flame.

its a tit for tat thing I guess. Like I will Always by Birkenstock sandals, and i will pay the extra $$ to have them over a cheaper similarly made product every single time. And to think, I used to hike in them all the time, a fav 5 mile loop trail in Aiea . and I'll stop there back on course, this ES1000 must be an older model they don't have on site but seen on ebay.

this is from the honest page , this is the one I liked, looks to be a nice fit in the hand AND pocket,
with a decent size tank.

I vote for this two.. I got the first one and it kicks ass.. The second one looks like could do the same job.. + OTA uses one with huge success if i am not mistaken .

I would even suggest OTA's model before mine.. cuz mine rubber housing stinked and i had to remove it cuz it couldn't stand it.. and he said he hadn't such issues..

I only use that one to light my joints and my candles Abysmal (sin, I know ), I never even tried it with my Vapocane. It is a really nice lighter for the price though, and it should work great with Vapo bowls and VGs and such. It does work better with ultra purified butane btw, it had trouble catching a flame sometimes with the cheap stuff. In all fairness, it was recommended to me by someone else from FC a while ago, but I'm terrible with names so I don't remember who it was anymore.


I use this one instead with my lighter based vapes, which has a much bigger flame (and gas-tank) then the one you just posted:

I agree with you on the cheaper products but I hve bought hundreds torch lighters and the expensive ones break or shit out just as much as the cheapies especially the small ones oh and btw the honest brand is shite as well they just copy other brands

I won't call you on your "hundreds" claim, but will certainly disagree with your opinion that cheap torch lighters are no better than brand names. I've been using a Wall Lenk LPT-200 for years, and it's never failed me. It's not designed as a pocket torch, but works great if size is not an issue-perfect for the Supreme Vaporizer, for example.

sorry hundred I didnt mean to make such a blanket statement the small ones are all very problematic maybe its the size of the jets and carrying them around with abv, dust and shit everywhere. I just spent way to much money on torches that dont even last as long as a cheapie.The 5 pack in my link makes them only $3.39 a piece

last night I got to thinking about all the cooking shows I watch, what can i say I like food and cooking and I have seen many use similarly sized units like those mentioned above. I think I'm gonna look more into ones marketed for cooking , when considering getting one of the bigger kinds as have been suggested. think 'creme brulee , and many uses centered around food, not to mention one's like max shared marketed more towards working with the torch.

I seen mention of fuel and grades of it. and not working as well with lower quality stuff. so much to consider lol damn

at the end of it all I think I'd like a bigger one like those suggested and a nice 'pocket size' torch as well , deffo want a small one too for more stealthy quick ones, and just being able to carry what I need and it not be noticed as odd.

I had my honest lighter since the day i bought my vapman 3 years ago, used daily (about 10 sessions a day) and it has never failed me... you obviously don't know much about lighters, next time do some experimentation before you type your thoughts out on a public forum

Culinary torches RULE. The butane is much cheaper and they're designed to work with the cheap stuff, so the jets don't clog from use... check out:

With both of these, a standard butane canister (like you can find at sporting goods stores) just snaps on to become the fuel tank. They're not terribly portable, but it's really the perfect @home torch. SO MUCH FIRE. And a full half pound of butane is around $2...

Since this is the "Portables" thread, however, I gotta say - the small, cheap lighters will last for quite a long while, but only if you keep them clean and use decent fuel. You don't have to use Vector, but at least get something that's filtered a couple times. If you're carrying it around in your pocket, even expensive torches will fail from accumulated pocket lint and gunk - I can't tell you how many times I've taken apart an old Firebird lighter (owned for going on 10 years now) when it stopped working, only to find a ball of pocket lint in the air intake... How it got there, I have no idea (the only way in is a tiny hole near the butane filling port) but removing it fixes the issue. Other fixes include filling with ultra-refined fuel to clean the nozzle, and bleeding the tank (each time you fill it, a little air gets in - eventually the whole tank is full of air and butane can't fit) by holding the lighter button down until all gas is released, adding a small amount of butane to flush, and then filling like normal.

If you still have any of those old, cheap lighters, I'm sure you'd be surprised how many of them still work.

thx Gnome for the info and the links. I have found one of the 'bigger' ones like folks posted above on ebay and I like that you can fold the jet part straight down and it fits into its body, so its round overall and it don't stick out. lemme see if I can find link to one. clicky its 4.5 inch high and I believe it works with nozzle in 4 different positions. So even though its got the bigger tank it will be easier to manage for carry.

I read about a 160$ one that supposedly only uses like a quarter of the fuel that standard ones use. but no way I will fork over that kind of money to find out lol something akin to s d dupont extend x or some shit.
