Carts can vary a lot. Sometimes, even in the same box, you'll find one a quarter gram or more lighter or heavier than the rest. Without peeking at the records I'd say 7.8 grams is closer to what I've been seeing lately. But I've also seen them under 7.5 and over 8. Newer ones seem lighter, I'm thinking maybe the tube is thinner from some vendors? There also seems to be some variation in silica wick length, some of the ones I've opened barely make it through the seals to the preheat area, others fill most of that area up. I suspect there's a lot of variation in the hand assembly part? Knowing what it weighed empty is the only sure way.

And even that's a little bit of guesswork as there's always some material left inside. I figure maybe a little less than .2?

I think the best advice is to weigh it empty, put half a gram in at first (more seems to invite leaks and other problems) and run it until it starts to taper off, then put the other half in. I figure on about .3 grams of the first load (about 100 hits?), and .5 per top up after that. Treated this way several grams total seems the normal lifespan. I think it was G who first suggested this technique, since I started using it most of my remaining issues have not raised their ugly little heads.....

I am having the same issue. I am sad because I just got this in the mail today. What can I do to fix it? Its almost as if the button is always toggled. If someone is around, can you shoot me a few pointers? I'm dying to get this thing working!

This is the signal you get for a shorted load. As in defective cart or something stuck in the socket. Does it do it with no cart?

That's interesting, I would not have suspected that. I guess I just don't see how a switch failure could cause this. It works well enough to be 'recognized' when pressed, usually all one requires of such a device?

Still, if it does it with no load you're pretty much down to something in the head, meaning it time for a trip to the shop.......

Here are my final troubleshooting notes just in-case any other future users run into the same issue that I did. The device worked fine for a while, then it went to its perma-on state, which in turn I believe broke the switch even more to the point where it wont heat carts period. Once the OmicronV2 reached the perma-on state, I rendered it as unusable.

    Troubleshooting Notes:

    Full setup (Battery, OmicronV2, cartridge):
No lights or flashes until I press the button once. Once pressed, the light flashes 3 times then stops.

    OmicronV2 & Battery only:
No lights or flashes until I press the button once. Once pressed, about a second later, it will flash 3 times slowly. After that happens, approximately 4 seconds later, the light will flash quickly 17 times, then what seems like a flicker, then it flashes 3 more times quickly. One could believe that it was 20 successive flashes. No heat comes from the cartridges anymore and the switch smells like an overly stressed circuit (plastic and batteries).

    Switch Observation:
I have the bottom cap screwed into the underside of the OmicronV2, battery inserted into the Omicron with the + terminal facing up. When going to screw the switch onto the OmicronV2, the circuit is completed as soon as I hit the switch coil to the battery terminal. I can tell this because the light turns on as soon as the contact is made, before I screw the switch in or even hit the button. This leads me to conclude that the switch is broken in some sort of "permanently on" position. If my understanding of the device is right, no lights should not be flashing until I press the button. The OmicronV2 worked properly for the first 15 minutes, but after first battery swap, the "perma-on" symptoms started showing.

All in all, I am frustrated with how this has unfolded, but I am willing to chalk this up to just poor luck. The customer service squad has already contacted me about the replacement process and THC SCIENTIFIC was kind enough to respond to my frantic PMs last night. Either way, I feel safe and secure knowing that I am in the correct hands. Thanks for the support guys and I look forward to getting my replacement!

This might seem a little pointless, but what is with so many people mispronouncing the name "Omicron" and calling it an "Omnicron"? I see it all of the time and I'm a bit perplexed how anyone who has owned one for some time now can still get the name wrong all of the time. If we can't get the name right, how are we going to spread the word about this awesome innovation that G and his peeps have created?

Are you talking about the HVD or V2.5 head? I have 2.5 heads but not HVD.

    On a side note

Hercules for 3.7v seems to be working.

current test subject is Persei 3.7v non hammer top, using Herb. next subject is the Omicron.

Happy owner of Omicron Dual Kit v1.1 purchased in October 2011 from Elemental Wellness. Love this device, as well as this forum and vaporpedia. Until now, any issues/questions I've encountered have been addressed here in others' posts, and any cartridges that have not performed (except for one) have been ruined due to user error. Live and learn is indeed applicable to the Omi, while the curve is steep I have indeed learned and take it everywhere, has become my primary medication delivery system.
Last week one of the units stopped working--when plugged into the charger the blue switch light would blink twice, then three times, then twenty times, while the charger light remained green. Nothing wrong with the charger, because my other Omi charges up every time. Spoke with Julie @ D9 yesterday, initially told me to send in everything (charger, both Omis). When I explained to her that the other Omi as well as the charger functioned perfectly and that I required it for medicating, she told me to just send in the unit that wasn't working. Sent via UPS 2 Day yesterday. Have read about THC's excellent customer response, looking forward to experiencing it for myself.

    What he just said!!

Thanks very much for the story, one I think is way more common than we realize. Lots of guys getting lots of good service out of their purchase.

One thing sure, you're in good hands with THC's service guys. Good show you had a backup vape, isn't it? It scares me to read of guys depending heavily on such a 'mission critical' piece of gear with no alternative for when Murphy comes calling. We sure don't want them reaching for the fire and Zig-zags do we?

Cool. You gonna try the AW 14500 and see if you can improve a bit on the 20 seconds part?

I dont have any at the moment, Wish i could but if it works on a generic imr i doubt its going to cause issues on a AW IMR, and believe that it will provide better vapor with it.

Next test is the load weight.

Welcome Ike. Seconding OF and DubC. People tend to report their problems more than their successes, it's great to read your good Omi news. My Omi is still one of the most reliable, easy to use pieces in my arsenal.
And you are in good hands with D9V, I'm surprised G didn't use his Gizmometer (TM Farnsworth Inc) to sense your issue before hand and send out your replacement before you reported the issue. You will one day be assuring other new D9V customers, just like DubC and OF.
Quick thread detour regarding your back-up vape comment OF, I've been considering one of the VaporGenies in case of power outages, but there are glass ones and steel ones and aluminum ones and bats, etc. Any suggestions before getting back to Omicrons?

Good question, and good choice IMO. I'm kind of afraid of glass in cases like this. I have a couple, don't suggest the bats for normal use (too hard to aim the fire if you're not used to it), the standard model (most like a tobacco pipe) is easiest to use I think. However, if you have a WP, I think the coils are the best call, and cheapest as well. Stashing a cheap 'torch type lighter' with it is a good call, IMO. I've got several of these, they work great with my Vapman (another excellent choice for backup duty IMO, and a really fun vape in it's own right):
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/jet-1300-c-butane-lighter-1320

Fun accent seems to be optional, I didn't get one with mine......

IMO the unfinished one is a great bargain. Fast free shipping (8 days for me, $80 charge to the card):
    https://shop.vapman.com/products_new.php?language=en

Also available elsewhere, of course. Many of the usual suspects, including Amazon, have it.
