MiniVAP Vaporizer

That is why I love the fact that there are so many new vaporizers coming out and everyone has a choice. Minivap might not be for you and you might need a conduction or conduction/convection vaporizer. My second choice behind the mv is the mighty. That machine hits hard. But I get more elevated with the minivap because I have huge lung capacity. I think the last third of my draw from my minivap produces serious vapor. I would recommend the mighty if minivap is not right for you.

Yeah my lung capacity is pretty poor tbh so maybe that's an issue. I'll be giving it another try when I start vaping in a few months time so we'll see how it goes. I could definitely get nicely elevated using it but struggled to get the KO effect I could achieve using my Herborizer. Yes we're indeed a lucky lot here with so many quality vapes on the market.

The Mighty looks very interesting and being built by the Volcano guys, Storz & Bickel is assuring. I'll have to read up on that one too.

I had one of the old teflon-core MiniVAPs that failed, and I received a new glass-core model as a replacement. After spending some time with the new unit, my impressions are mixed. There are some positives but at least one big negative.

On the positive side, the unit now heats up more quickly than before. No more waiting ten minutes. When the light stops blinking (+/- five minutes) you're good to go. In fact, the new firmware seems designed to discourage you from waiting. At least mine does -- it shuts off automatically after ten minutes exactly.

Also on the plus side, the efficiency is remarkable. The clouds are even larger -- and the MiniVAP delivered big clouds to begin with. Green now produces vapor so thick you’d swear it was smoke (though it’s not). It also feels like you get more effect from less medicine than before -- and the original version was already pretty potent.

On the negative side... and you all know what's coming... the flavor just isn't there like before. I don't get the sour or spent taste others have reported. The flavor is nice, just not as robust and full as I remember. I’ve tried a bunch of different temperature settings and configurations. The best for taste is probably the large basket, packed loosely, vaped on blue. Even with that setup, however, the flavor still seems weaker.

Overall, the new unit seems to run hotter on every setting. On my old model, green produced thick clouds while leaving the ABV lighter than other vapes I’ve used. As I say, green now produces thicker clouds and the ABV gets noticeably darker, more like the color of ABV on other vapes (though still nowhere near combustion). I find myself using pink and blue, which produced little or no visible vapor on the old version.

I also noticed the herb chamber is now shallower. Previously, the large basket fit all the way into the chamber, so the lip of the basket was flush with the opening. Now the basket sticks out a millimeter or two from the chamber. Not a big deal since I always use the basket connected to the flexicone plus. But I do wonder if this closer proximity has some effect on temperature, conduction, and ultimately taste.

To summarize, the new version of the MiniVAP is still a great vape, one I would recommend for its efficiency and ease of use. In some ways it’s an improvement on the original teflon-core model, especially if you’re a cloud chaser. In at least one important way, however, it is a downgrade. Some of that magical taste is now gone.

Nice comparison review. Fair and honest. You have come to the same conclusion as @stickstones did.

Kinda happy now knowing (well, hopefully at least) my replacement will be the former heater core. Read the description at VN regarding the new core this morning:

'The latest model features new heating technology that makes the heat-up time much faster (200% faster) and produces much more robust vapor. The advantage of the new glass air path is that there is more conductive heating in the loading chamber, which will increase the density and decarboxilation.'

They should be working on a seven temperature update, including lower temperatures, apparently the taste on the glass cores currently out is like that mainly because they run so hot. I can't wait to get my glass core, I have received news a couple weeks ago, but I'm still waiting for my updated model. I'm exited to try it so I can report my impressions. If the glass really isn't that good for flavor chasing now it should be later, and if not, I hope they will continue an original line.

I've been dying to hear your thoughts, as well!

Is it me or is it a bit surprising they are making this change?

I get faster heatup time and that a lot of folks appreciate the extra clouds but taste was one of claims to fame on the MiniVap. To come out with a version that seems to take away from that is puzzling to me. :hmm:

I would love to try them both but my replacement was teflon so I doubt I'll get the opportunity. At least anytime soon.
I also picked up the decarboxilation kit out of classifieds from @lazylightning and have been enjoying it thus far. Maybe it's all in my head but I prefer it over the stock setup for a bit more cloud production and I don't notice much difference in taste. This is also using baskets only which is surprising because I didn't expect any difference with the kit unless I loaded the chamber. Like I said, it could all be in my head but so far I'm happy I got the teflon core paired with the decarboxilation kit.

This new glass core sounds like it could help me appreciate my MiniVAP more. A quicker heat up time and thicker vapor what‘s not to love. I‘ve never really been a flavor chaser myself probably because my homegrown herbs always turn out so bland flavor wise. They are excellent potentcy wise however.

Any ideas how much Hermes is charging to retro fit a glass core ? I don‘t suppose one gets to keep his teflon core?

Almost there...
Silver Teflon model MiniVap circa Dec 2014, still rocking the Casbah!

Decided to try the decarb kit again, the first time i did not give it a proper test.
On opening the bag i find they also supply a smaller SS ring! I missed that in the initial testing so that could be a large contributing factor...

After a thorough cleaning and swabbing, i installed the decarb correctly and turned the MiniVap on!
Green for go this time!
Let her heat up till the blinking stops and i hit it immediately!!
WOW!! More intense flavour from this strain!! Headband has never tasted so good!!
And huge, dense cloud!!!

Maybe it's just me but i seem to love the high temps!!
Found the Teflon to be a bit lacking after this first test of the decarb kit.
Kind of confused and further testing is required!
I had to quit after 3 hits as the effects came on really strong!
Literally feels like i have a HOT LAVA headband on!!!
Time to go watch Sci-Fi!!

So I should put the decarb kit in my shopping cart when I buy other accessories. Did u use the decarb while putting the flowers in with minivaps ELBs (don't know what to call them) or did you dump the flowers straight into the chamber?

Edit: I try to find accessories on minivap.com and can't find the store for accessories. Can anyone post a link for minivaps accessory page (not authorizeddealer.com)

Remember not a lot of people like the decarb kit, very much a personal preference thing.
If you like hotter vapour then i would say it is worth a try.
Or if you are handy you can make your own, there are dimensions posted a few pages back already.

I am going to leave the decarb kit in and try lower temps to see how it performs and to see if it can maintain the flavour profiles for as long as the Teflon core can.

Again, it is up to you! An expensive accessory if you find you do not like it...
It has sat in my drawer for almost two months now without being touched.

Hey all,
newbie here. Got a miniVap last August. As it was my first vape I wasn't sure what to expect. Retrospectively (after reading through this entire thread) I realise that my unit was faulty, and gave barely a whisp of cloud on red. Terrible time trying to get hold of Hermes or my vendor (whom I won't mention here). Overall really disappointed in everything from product to service. I am a medical user and researched for a long time before deciding on the minivap due to its clean materials and a build quality that looks like it might actually outlive the warranty. I am £400 out of pocket, cannot take my medication and spasm like crazy these days. I have reverted to smoking. No one is particularly interested in my plight. I just want my money back so I can get a mighty, or a crafty, or a big bag of baccy. Very, very, very angry about it all, and furthermore my health is significantly worse than it was last August when I got the damn thing. There is only so many times I can go through the pain of nicotine cessation.

Hermes reported me after few days since they received my previous unit saying that my temperatures settings were a little higher than usual.
My first heat setting were actually at 200ºC. (it's usually 180-190ºC at Blue so my unit was 20ºC higher than other units.)
So now I understand where the spent taste came from..

I wonder if any vendor or maybe Hermes themselves would sell me *just* a glass core, assuming it would be compatible with prior battery and other parts. It would be very interesting to try them side by side. Based on the price of their various accessories I would think the core itself would be rather inexpensive compared to the whole price of a kit.

@Edwardo Some have reported problems with using the contact form on Hermes web site (not sure it has been fixed or if it's back to being ok) but were successful when they used the sales@minivap.com email address. Try that.

You're most likely not going to get your money back, as I'm sure you kind of know that anyway, so be persistent and get it replaced under warranty. In your case I would also explain your circumstances health wise and request a replacement be sent while yours is sent back for repair/replacement.

Good luck.....you deserve it.

Thanks Smknbud, forgive my ranting - I's just grumpy is all. Im sure it will all be sorted soon enough.

I've read through this thread in full.... then forgotten most of it, but got so many questions that will have to come soon: best temps to use; best basket to use; best herb condition; best grind; good bubblers...

Glad I found this forum ;)

Was on the cusp of trying my decarb ring again the other day before reading this.. That'll be happening now for sure!

As for the smaller ring.. I Didn't trust myself to be able to remove the smaller ss one if I decided I hadn't liked it's vape signature, so opted to just use the larger more easily removed ring and leave the slim Teflon one down where it was.

The first time i also left the small Teflon ring in and was not satisfied with how the kit worked so packed it away and thought it was a waste of money...
That small metal ring seems to bring the heat up better than the Teflon small ring did and keep it there between hits. I left it on the table but did not see any whisps escaping from my straw.
Been in testing the whole day... :science:Tough job indeed!!
Starting from BLUE - I now get delicious vapour and light, fluffy clouds!
On PINK - Vapour density increases a bit but still delicious!
On GREEN - I now get shockingly thick clouds of delicious vapour!
RED is for WT's and they have been packed away for a while! Too scared to go there dry!

I found on GREEN i got an average of 4 decent hits and then had to tap out... Been a while since i had to quit before the vape!

I have found the hits to be bigger and have a more robust flavour but still able to tell the individual terps!
This equals fewer hits but they seem to be pretty debilitating!!
I am thinking i might like the glass core after all...:freak:

Do you think using the metal baskets would take away taste from the all glass core?

It seems the all glass would be better for direct loading.

The baskets don't take away from the Teflon core I don't see why they would on the glass?

@biohacker this video is for you showcasing the power of the minivap. I'm using the small baskets and the heat setting is green. Teflon core.this hit was extremely tasty as well as potent .enjoy I know I did :haw:

Right. My Teflon MV is still running strong since last July. I've always used the baskets and never loaded directly. Wonderful taste and performance.

With the glass core, I would love to see MV make a glass bowl/mouthpiece like arizer does.
