I also found no performance boost when using the optimizer.

I actually like mine, more so with bubble in the load than straight bud. IMO it's worth the effort, at leas sometimes. For sure you should try it if you can, you might like it.....

First off, welcome to the Forum, vaping and all the fun. Hang in there, good stuff coming.

Blazing is an interesting thing. Remember the first time you tried? Really nasty stuff, right? Your body is very clear about what it thinks of the idea. In fact, I recall reading most first timers don't get off (I didn't, did you?). A time or two later you do get off, your brain loves it while the rest of your body is saying 'no, not again.....'. So your brain takes over and lies to you associating the nasty part with getting off. That link, really only in your mind, is what causes you to fall in love with something that once choked you to the point you couldn't see straight.

But you don't really have to stick your face in the camp fire to get THC, your brain just tells you that's the way to get what you really want.

Next major idea, aside from some vapes being easier to use, or tasting better or worse, THC is THC the tool that releases that is just that, a tool, not magic really. Most any vape will do, same as joints, blunts, bongs and so on provide the lovely smoke you now enjoy. Don't blame the tool, or expect it to solve other problems.

What you need to do is break the mental link between gagging, coughing and choking and enjoying THC. Like learning to enjoy smoking in the first place, that takes a little doing. What you absolutely have to do is put down blazing for long enough for your mind to break the link for you. No backsliding, zero. Get on the wagon for a ride. Hang in and don't cheat. After a bit you'll get off in a different way. No bloodshot eyes, burning throat and the like since you are no longer taking all the nasty junk with the good stuff. Then your good old brain can break the link for you.

We all went through this, thousands of us. It's extremely rare to find one who didn't decide 'this is really, really bad' when we tried blazing again. Note the name of the forum? We all started out loving combustion just like you, but got over it.

You'll discover that not only do you get off without all the bad side effects, but since you're not destroying so much of your hard earned THC in some dumb fire your weed bill drops like the proverbial rock. To like 1/3 to 1/4 of what it was. Seriously. What once was good for a week or so will now last a month or so. Most of us moved right up to the top shelf and still save gobs of bucks (which comes in mighty handy when it comes time to buy the next vape). And you smell better. And get to live longer to enjoy it all.

Come on in, the water's fine.......just put the fire out for a while until you catch on.

Best wishes.

Thank you! I get it really, I think I just don't like the iolite, I didn't know anything about vapes until my guy mentioned it to me and recommended it when after a really long hiatus(few years). I have watched him do it and do everything he does. but when I do it on mine, I get no vapor clouds.. and the high is extremely quick, like I am lightheaded or something similar. I know its partially working because of the taste of it.

Guess I either have a broken one(cant slide it all the way in fully, don't know if that impacts it) or I am doing it wrong :o

Nowadays I am researching this site for a really nice portable one that can be shared with 1 other person easily that doesn't require a master technique to get the most out of it.

Wish there was a ranking list of some sort that rates portable ones with pros and cons thats current. Don't want to end up buying something like iolite again when there was an option to get an Solo :-( Anyways seems that the new Arizer Air looks good to go, and the alfa? Ill have to research it :-)

The iolite isn't ideal for an only vape to have. It has a lot of quirks and other things about it that IMO simply wouldn't lend it to being an everyday vape.

Io can get you really really stoned. in fact last few days i have been putting my really high power vapes to the side because the io has been getting me crazy ripped.

but i digress. there are lots of ways you could mess something up with the io so it's possible it's user error, it's also possible your unit was a dud. my first io v1 ever was.

IMO the Iolite is more of an at-home portable for me when I want a long session where I stay clearheaded but get insanely blazed at the same time.

you could always make a Ask FC thread for your next vape... i have an air and it's quite excellent. still hoping to give the alfa a shot.

You're welcome, and it's your call all along. Your money, your time, your bud, your health, your call as it should be.

What does your friend say when he tries yours? I suggest you put no stock in seeing vapor or in the taste at this point. If you read these threads you'll find those are quite common mistakes for new guys to make. Follow, instead the effects using some faith to get there? We really aren't making this all up.

It could be defective of course (unlikely given the report, most fail to cycle when bad). No the stem doesn't need to be 'bottomed out', heat is mostly brought in by conduction through the pin in the center. It does need a pretty solid load since it needs conduction. How does the ABV come out after say 10 minutes? If it comes out spent (dark brown, not green) it's working fine almost certainly.

I suggest trading Iolites with your friend? Bottom line is there are way too many folks who say it's a well designed and functional vape to think otherwise. Other vapes (like Solo) may be less complex to use, but this is a solid one. It will work I bet.

It's still your call.

I'd like to know the techniques to this vape before I completey give up on it. My best friend hates it and doesnt get high much from it and my guy who I get the shit from is really unhelpful LOL.

Tips please, how do you get really ripped with it?

Hey Vito, me and "orangey" are going ice fishing, it's currently 0 Fahrenheit here at the cabin, gunna be a good day, hopefully get to go home with dinner!

Better rethink the Iolite then. Butane pressure drops with temperature to basically zero before freezing. You don't stand the proverbial prayer in Hell at zero F without a LOT of Propane in the mix:
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/propane-butane-mix-d_1043.html

I can see you keeping under the parka for a long time just to get it to light, then having it 'wimp out' as you're trying to hit it?

I'd be thinking of taking the back up vape along........

Good luck fishing.

Warm ice house helps ;) but it's still kickin even outside with no issues.... I think it's cuz it was fully heated before I went out, so maybe it's keeping itself warm?

Must be. Retained heat from the 'soak' inside. After it lights it's probably OK, but like cars in the Yukon, stop it and let it cool and you have to wait for spring to get it going again......

Enjoy the fishing.

you are loading it in the proper chamber right? it sounds dumb, but for the first 6 months of my first iolite, i loaded the part in the unit itself, although you are supposed to load the stem/mouthpiece part.

i load it VERY VERY loosely and just barely past halfway full. looseness is important. if it's packed down, you won't get hits. so if you pack it in with your fingers, stir it up to get everything loosed back up.

Make sure you're using good quality butane. I use no name stuff that says 5x refined and it works fine. Purge the tank of gas and then fill it back up again. wait 5 mins for the refill to evaporate. FWIW i get about 3 full sessions out of one gas tank refill, and my sessions tend to last about 20 minutes each with this thing.

When it's full, switch the butane on and let it hiss for like 10 seconds before you fire it up (just for the initial refill, not every time you wanna switch it on)

Then I would let it "hiss" three or four times before even picking it up to hit. When you do, exhale all your breath, and then inhale as slowly and lightly as you can, as if you're sipping super hot tea.

I exhale a lot of clouds when I vape Iolite this way, and I get ripped as hell. You don't exhale a ton of clouds with the Iolite, but remember that it's a very slow roaster and vapes at low temperatures, so don't think just because you're not exhaling ~fat clouds~ that it isn't working. If you feel like you're inhaling vapor, you are, so hold it in and don't worry about not exhaling much visible vapor, but if you DO exhale a lot of visible vapor from an iolite you know you're on the train to rippedville

hope it works. if this helped you please let me know! i hope you end up loving your Io.

Ok this is really helpful! I do load it into the mouthpiece, I am trying to fix it now, it doesnt go completely all the way in and I can't figure it out... I have taken the mouthpiece apart quite a few times and still sticking out slightly when I connect it to the iolite heating chamber or whatever its called :o

Do you wait for couple hisses between hits..or do you just keep going until you are done?

@Barhen I usually let is his a few times between hits. Slow an easy can turn into lung busters.

OF was right, I finished a session and was still walkin about the lake lookin at animal tracks (holy moly wolf tracks everywhere!) and I had the io in my pocket, but the temp dropped on it, it was a no go for sure. But it's okay because I was already medicated and I usually only vape if I actually need it. Well, about 5 came along and I was extremely nauseas, so I set the io by my heater and within two minutes I was listening to "orangey" happily hiss away.

No fish, but plenty of peaceful relaxation, well worth the trip!

Orangey is a friend to Kid,
never tells folks what Kid did,
in his pocket it stays hid,
So he can vape when "off the grid".

The tale of Orangey, and how he came to hiss in @KidFated. 's hands.

Oglesby and Butler in Ireland had one of their special one day sales... but this time
it was too good to pass up.
It was buy one... get one free...
YEPPERS... 2 for 1.
"PATTY...... DO WE HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT?"
Answer was yes, and I ordered up, because it was a win/win scenario.....
I could find a dozen patients to want a 1/2 price new Iolite effortlessly.

Kid was aware of my plan, and he politely inquired if he could get in on the deal.
I ordered red units, and blue units as my color choices.
Receipts said Blue and red, as did the boxes.
An orange unit slipped into a box marked blue.
Kid's Blue unit was ORANGE.
I offered to be the guy to get this adjusted at O&B... but Kid said he could live with orange.

It delights me and completes my day to hear stories about Orangey.

Great, thanks for the update. I'm sure there are members poking pins in their KidFated dolls as we speak....

I wouldn't worry or put much stock in that 'OF was right' stuff, it's not likely to happen again any time soon. Lighting striking and all that.......

Thanks again for the word, 'living through others' is a poor (but only) resort for some of us.

I tried it a couple times a while back on top of a load of herb (with a bit on top) to 'soak it up'. I would not try it without the herb. IMO while it worked it 'was kind of a waste' since the weed was there too. I got basically the same results adding bubble hash at a fraction of the cost.

But it does work, makes vapor for a much longer time.

So thanks to @OF and @exit I decided to throw my optimizer in my next bowl, I loaded it up between 3/4 and 1/2full, and inserted the optimizer and gave a quick twist to loosen up the load. I let it hiss 3-4 times and I must say, while it didn't speed up my session, it seemed easier to pull faster without overpowering the heater. I am gunna continue to experiment with it, and I'll report back.

I doubt it'll speed anything up, in fact I think it slows it down at first until the insert comes up to temperature. It also, therefore, benefits from longer delays between hits.

I agree, the big advantage is more heat locally to support longer hits. I sip, and that can mean long hits, and often include a layer of bubble (harder to vape) high up in the load. For such use I think it excels over different techniques.

I also pack fairly tight, this is a conduction vape for the most part, in my experience they generally work better with better contact (tighter loads). I tend to force it in a bit even, as the load collapses lots of extra spaces develop anyway. I suggest your experiments include tighter packing?

Fun, and IMO useful, little device. Thanks for the update.

I've only used a tight pack in my io once I think  It was te resistance that made me go for lighter packs. I'll give that a go next time!

Good luck with it. Remember not to abandon a load right off and stir it up. The load will 'cook down' naturally as it loses mass. Of course, if you've got really tasty stuff in there it can also be jamming up higher upstream.

Fun device, not near as simple as it seems coming out of the box......
