I am glad you got it working. I know you shouldn't be dealing with this issue and I am exhausting every idea I can think of to resolve this issue.

Ed's TnT,
Awesome Ed!!! So your doing them in Granadillo? I don't have that stem. My favorite stem atm would probably have to be the cocobolo, so tasty. The bog is good and very unique I just seem to prefer the cocobolo for some reason. How is the granadillo in comparison with taste? Anyone have the cocobolo and the granadillo?

I also prefer the Coco stem over the Bog Oak. Though the Bog is a nice looking stem, the Coco is so smooth and feels better on my lips. Maybe I should have gone for the African blackwood. The taste is a bit nicer on the Coco too. I would be willing to part with my Bog Oak stem if somebody out there really wanted to get one, and missed out. Just send me a PM. Otherwise, it will stay in my collection. I've only used it a few times, don't even think it's had a chance to build up much residue.

The granadillo is the only species i have right now that is the thickness i need. I have a couple pieces of cocobolo but is only 3/4" or so thick. Need something that is 1" at least. The holes have to 5/8" so the wall around em needs to be thick enough to handle usage. I would say that the comparison between the granadillo and cocobolo would be close.

I have never used it myself to be honest. I use a mineral oil/beeswax mixture to treat all the pieces. I call it bomb ass butter and sell it at my shop. What i have read is the coconut works well and can be used.

Just got the word that my stems came in yesterday!!!! I'm currently visiting my brother in LA but now I can't wait to get home to try the new stems out!!! On a side note I am loving the strains down here. Don't have the luxury of a vape so I have to roll up joints but I'm still enjoying all the favors!! Nice clean tastes out here!!!!

Good morning, glad to hear the pkg has made it Shred! LA is a nice place and is a whole different world, I do like my times there but cant wait to get home. Have spent a whole lot of time in NOLA, just to get away at times. Sometimes doobies have to do, glad you enjoying your time down here in the south. I look forward to hearing your thoughts of the stem.

Am currently out of stock of all the Solo stems at the moment, I have them in line with my metal guy but am a couple orders behind. I hope to have these back in stock within 2-4 weeks, should have some available bout 2-3 and will know for sure about the middle of August. Still waiting to hear from my Bog Oak guy, guess hes in no hurry to get rid of what hes got.

Hope all is well out there!

any new fixes for the stems coming off? someone mentioned plumbers floss but have not looked into it, my bog oak and grandillo came off from the metal, but my coco is going strong!

I was using some baking parchment paper, but I guess it was too slippery and came off after a hot session. Going to ask for plumbers floss next time i'm at the hardware store see if it's heat reactive or anything. Maybe I'll try thicker paper like watercolor or construction paper first, thanks Jam!

edit: also Ed how are the solo dug outs coming!

Did anyone else notice longer heatup times, and the solo getting hot during use with one of Ed's stems?

I've still only used it the 1 time, but I remember the solo taking seemingly ages to heat up, and the body got a decent bit hotter than it ever has with the glass stems...

My bog-wood stem is sexy as hell though :)
I really have to get around to putting a shim in to get it to stay put...
I'm thinking I'll pre-heat the stem in the solo, then put the paper in.
The head is still a little loose, but it tightened up a decent bit once it fully cooled down.

Does it matter what kind of paper I use?
I'd like to avoid any paper off gassing if possible.

I believe it was U bwade that suggested using the Hemp Fiber as a shim. I had been using some and its did work sometimes and sometimes not.

I have some really good news about the stem design. My metal guy has come up with a way to install a SS pin in just one side of the SS bushing. The wood will be turned and fitted to the SS, sanded and polished, then jammed in the metal. We will then have the stem bored in a mill, the bore will be in the one side through the steel and through the wood shaft, a small stainless steel pin will be pressed in through the SS and the wood and fit snug. This new design will eliminate the use of weld or shims, I have tested the new design and have had great results. There was no separation at all and should never be an issue ever again.

I have just gotten with my guy from the Ukraine and finally have another slab of Bog Oak on the way!

I know that it does take a little longer for the solo to reach temp with the wooden stems due to the mass of the SS, once it has reached temp its all good and performs really well. I have a guy at Arizer that is a big salesman for them, he expressed the same thing. He said that he found that the older unit could not reach max temp with the wood stems. I have a M105 and have had no issues. He said all the newer units heat up a little slower but do reach temps and also work well. I have heard some folks that vape on the lower temps and have had positive results. I myself like the unit to be at 5 or 6 and will finish it off at 7.

I hope to have the new design pieces in stock within the next 2-4 weeks, am in line to get the metal work done but am a couple orders behind. I have had several inquiries and folks wanting to be first in line. I am currently working on a big order for MF and should know where I am at with the stems by the middle of the month. Third week of the month I will be out in Vegas at the CHAMPS tradeshow to promote the new stems and enjoying myself! Its always a lota fun and great folks to meet! Pls hang in there with me you all!

Nice vid Shred, am glad to see you are digging that stem! Thanks for posting the video bro!

Just got in a neat little piece, its a hemp sock, made to slip over the SS when in use, will keep the user from getting burned. I need to get a pic of it and see what you all think. I think it will be a cool little addition to using the stems and will be beneficial to the user.

Been really busy in the shop the last couple days but took a time out to do family time! We had the annual wildlife expo bout an hour away. All kinds of hunting and outdoors type stuff. Really enjoyed the duck hunting gear and tips from the great vendors. My boys had a great time eating the deer sausage as always, shot a few arrows at targets and showed their skills. They even got to hold an alligator, oh what kid wouldnt wanna do that huh! The wife thought I was crazy getting a great deal on a mojo duck decoy, got $40 off and was happy with that, but she is like, what??? Thats not a deal, hell you cant even wear em! Well little does she know how much fun it will be to put it out in my spread this year and watch the woodies freak out and have to come in and get some! Fresh viddles on the water, now thats a deal!

Ok so I got the pics and wanna know what you all think of this neat little piece. I am thinking I will have it made with a standard tan hemp with maybe a red stripe of some color to look like the vintage hemp fabrics.

Ed, everytime I look at your website I get an urge to combust! Some pretty dugouts you have up there, my friend. Oh...and the "hemp hat" above is very cute!

Also wanted to report we are loving our bog oak tube. A good conversation piece when we tell somebody the age of the wood!

Nice hat, Ed!

I personally wouldn't use it because I like to keep my abv and I think putting that on top of a spent bowl would get a lot of abv crumbs on it. Now, if I were in the habit of tossing the abv in this thing when done, then I would love something like that.

Thanks Bum for taking a look through my site, its a work in progress right now, am changing the layout of it a page or two at a time. Am gonna have some beautiful dugouts I have just finished up at the photographers soon. Aint nothing like some fresh wood porn what ever it is for me to get all worked up about! And there aint nothing wrong with a little combustion here and there either. The Bog Oak has a lota history and its always fun telling others about it, glad you are liking it!

As far as the hemp goes Bum and Sticks, just thought it would be a nice piece to be used on the go, would shield the user from the heat after using the Solo Stems. Those things can get pretty hot this would not let the user get burned. I know some folks double screen their stems so if that was the case then very little herb would get in the hemp I would think. You could load your stem, put the second screen over the load and then slide in the hemp, off you go!

Whats your thoughts?
