Ed's TnT Wooden Vapor Tubes & Vapor Stems

My Bog oak stem came the other day.
It separated at the end of my first load (EDIT: It was in my M102 Ceramic), So I'm gonna look into the paper shim trick to fix it.

I actually like the idea of a removable head, for cleaning and whatnot, so I'm happy :)

I really love the Bog Oak :luv:. It looks real slick in my black Solo.

I've only had that 1 stem so far, so it's not long enough for a proper review, but I like it .

Oh, and it was fun telling my buddies about how old the wood is, and the carbon dating

so what do you all think about making the wooden shaft straight as can be and adding a band to help hold the joint?

I enjoyed my first run with one of Ed's Solo stems two nights ago. I packed that sucker pretty full and it kept feeding me vapor for about three sessions and was very nicely, evenly browned. I've gotten to where I get sensitive to vapor that is not water filtered, and this was no exception. While the airflow is great, I found myself enjoying it more with a slow draw for my sensitive throat. I'll really know what I think of this thing when I get to a theme park this summer and test it out on the go, but so far I really like it and the mflb caps fit it perfectly!

I also don't mind the removable head, both of mine came off and now have paper shims (bog oak and coco) Is that hemp fiber holding up? Sounds like a good alternative to adhesive, or silicon.

Sticks am glad to hear you are enjoying your first few sessions with that piece, it is a beauty and am sure you will for a while!

Kingston your purchase is legit bro! I began selling at Etsy not long ago, actually have 4 Bog Oak pieces put back in case I had to do some returns, you and another guy picked up one each before I remembered they were available there. I also sell on Amazon and had marked them as out of stock at my site and the Amazon but forgot the Etsy. Your order will go out with all the others first thing Monday!

Thanks for the input Frederick, Mosh, Jam, the Bog Oak has a great look and story but may not be the best choice for this particular application. I am not hearing so much of a problem from the other three denser species that I offer. The Bog Oak being a softer wood seems to not be able to handle the high temps and is shrinking more so than the denser.

I really want to reiterate that I am working so hard to resolve this issue by exhausting every option and idea to make this work. I do so appreciate you alls positive words and input, thank you all for hanging in there with me and your support!

Hey Ed, I feel like the stem is limited if I can't remove the SS chamber...it is very important to be able and open it...however its so easy to keep it tight with a small piece of paper.

I would like to see if you can try to make a glass chamber perhaps? could be interesting although I'd still want a solid unbreakable stem :D

I would like to add more about Linda review, I agree with her about the solid and classy look your stem adds up! however I cannot understand why she don't double screen the stem...perhaps she haven't thought about it? its so easy.

My Solo stem was from the first batch and required a paper shim. For a month it was removable, but it took some working to get it off. Since then it has become totally solid and will not budge. I actually liked the feature of being removable, but the solid feel is great too. I will definitely be getting another one soon. Any plans on doing a crazy burl or a streaky ebony Ed??

Glad to hear that piece has worked out for ya. I had a feeling that once these have been used some that there would be a buildup of resin and honey that would seal the gap. I have made a beautiful tow tone Amboyna Burl Stem as a matter of fact. Even asked a while back if anyone was interested in something special, got no responses so been sticking to what works. If you wanna do something special send me an email and lets talk about it!

All orders will be shipped just shortly!

Hope all is well out there!

I really like how much herb my solo stem holds. And I can pack it tight or loose depending on how much I want to travel with. I only planned on using it while out and about, but it is already the only thing I reach for with the solo...great job, Ed!

Question...the edge of the metal bowl isn't sharp, but it isn't really dull either. Could rotating the stem while using it scratch a ceramic surface? Could the edges be dulled a little? Does this matter at all? It was just at thought.

Sticks I am glad to hear you are enjoying that piece even more! Would hope that with the small taper it has on the SS that it would not harm the ceramic. I havent heard anyone mention this being an issue. I have the M105 I think, its not ceramic. Pls do let me know if you notice this in your usage!

Shred I would day that it may take 1-2 weeks and have seen it take as much as 3 but really not that often. Hang in there am sure you will see it soon.

Good morning all, I have been hard at it the shop the last couple of days. Put a bunch of dugouts together, blanked out and put together the Solo Dugouts, spun some of the most amazing Cocobolo Solo stems, and several more Granadillo.

I am using the hemp fiber only now on the Solo Stems. The Weld I was using is not holding up and folks have had to use the paper shim method to make work. I am really trying not to use an epoxy or glue on these. You all will see a small fiber band between the wood and the SS, I have trimmed all I could off the stems, there may still be short pieces poking out and I recommend you do not pull it out or off, simply take a lighter and singe the little piece. The hemp fiber is the best solution I have for the separation issue and is working in the shop.

The Solo Dugouts look like they are gonna be a nice piece, I am making them from a two toned piece of Granadillo. You all that have a Granadillo Stem know how sweet this species finishes with a glossy shine. The box itself is gonna be rather large in the hand. I am gonna route them and try and get em bored this coming week. I may have some finished by this time next week. Had enough wood left from the one board that I am gonna make the short Solo stems for the dugouts to match.

Progress is happening slowly, thats probably the best way!
