Scratchin' Glass!

I bought a broke cloud SERIAL # below 250. Red light comes on but never heats up.

I first removed the silicone sleeve. I removed it with a hair dryer but it left a bit of residue behind.

Using MEK I was able to remove all the residue from the sleeve and a little paint.

Take out the eight screws with an allen wrench and you expose the circuit board and the

wiring. Electronics are isolated from heating unit.

THE PROBLEM

dPHWxQh.jpg

Stainless steel wire has come loose from the stainless steel(?) pad. One side of the connection

to the ceramic heater. It looks like this wire was welded with a single point. Perhaps an

induction weld. Very weak connection for something that goes through such heating and

cooling stress. This is not connected like most heaters. Most heaters have a mechanical

connection a fold over or a crimp and do not depend on a single weld point.

The person I worked with too fix this was a master welder but we did not have the setup to do

a weld though we might try that next time. We attempted to use silver solder to connect

the wire to the plate. This was very difficult to do as however the original connection was

made it made it very difficult to get the solder to tin the plate. However with application

of a torch directly we finally were able to get it to solder. Unfortunately the heat that

we applied broke the ceramic heater. We expected the glass to break. However it still broke

and the cloud is easily pronounced dead.

Attempt to reattach the wire:

That's EXACTLY what happened to mine. See ceramic, although it can handle extreme heat it can't handle uneven heat. We got it to solder but as soon as it started to cool the wires broke loose again. Ultimately the only way they can be fixed was an internal replacement in it's entirety.

I look forward to the EVO - I feel confident that this was the biggest flaw in the original design and that's why their moving on to a new unit.

What I hope they are doing is using a cuff around the heater that would allow unattaching and re-attaching with ease.

Whats so different about the new evos? how much better do you think they will be? Is vapexhale still going to work on all clouds previously sold?

I'll be pre-ordering an EVO this week but I've never owned (or even hit) a Cloud so I'm not sure what tube to go along with it. Should I just start off with the dry mouthpiece and buy a tube later or are those Swagger tubes the way to go? I remember seeing some really nice thick straight tubes for the Cloud that looked sweet but maybe they were custom pieces. If the Swaggers are the best bet, does anybody have any suggestions between the showercap and the circ? Thanks.

No, and I wouldn't mind buying a bong if it would work better with the EVO. I just assumed that the tubes would be more ideal.

Well if you already had some glass then I was going to tell you not to worry about getting a hydratube, but in this case I think it would be worth the extra money to get a hydratyube. Dry is nice but the cloud really excels with water

I've used an HT and a Mobius Ion (as well as another, larger glass piece) with the Cloud, and both work well, but I'm always mindful of how large and heavy the vape is when I fit it in the Ion. The HT seems more user friendly and does a nice job too. If it were me, I'd go for a combo with a Swagger tube. Someone very familiar with all the HT's gave a  to the Swagger brand, and you get a hydrafoot with the Swagger. The showercap has less diffusion and therefore more flavor, vs. the circ or tree, so it comes down to personal preference. I'd get the circ over the cap, but that's just me. I like the circ and it's less expensive.

I just assumed that the tubes would be more ideal.
It depends, both on preference and how you use. Ergonomics can play a part too. IMO it comes down to the Swagger tubes being quality and the HT setup offering you a good deal that you can't get later on, since you'll pay more for the HT by itself. You can always add a bong of your choice later. You only have one chance to get such a good discount on an HT.

I think the probabilities favor the scenario where, if you end up getting a glass mouthpiece, you'll likely want to get a hydratube or other water device after that. So I'd just cut out the middleman right now and go for a hydratube (which, like max said, are typically the most user friendly).

Also, you can hit a hydratube dry with no water, making it similar to the mouthpiece if you wanted to do that too.

A nice tube would be more worth it IMO because you can use it with other vapes, and its probably more comfortable to stand/hold than a hydratube

I have a small stemless bubbler that I use with mine and it works great! Hydratubes are fun, but I have to be in the mood ;)

So Im going to go ahead and place my pre-order for the Cloud EVO this morning. Ive seen people say its coming in october and then on the site it says november, anyone have a locked down month on when it should be here? Also from what I understand the main change is a faster heat up time? any other main differences or improvements that Im missing? I havent been able to find the info but will the EVO come with a 1 or 2 year warrenty?

Thanks for the info so far guys, yall are really helpful.

Good point, Elluzion, but I'm not looking for something to use with other vapes too, just the EVO.
I actually plan on selling my DBV when I get the EVO because I expect the EVO to be all that and a bag of chips.

And I decided to go with the Swagger Circ. Thanks for the help guys.

It should be here in October, and the VXL guys seem pretty on top of things and geared up for the launch, so I wouldn't expect delays (but if you've followed the cloud before, you NEVER KNOW)...

The new VXL EVO features
-detachable power cord
-cooler/ more aesthetically pleasing enclosure (with black/white options)
-quicker heat up time, more reliable heater?
-1 year warranty (I believe)

The hydratubes offer a really unique vapor experience. I definitely recommend them. I personally use my hydratree more than any other glass with the vapexhale.

You can always pick up a 18mm tube to invert the VXC on, for under $70. If you look hard enough haha.

@stonemonkey55 said on a recent pod-cast that as a company VXL had built in a number of "mulligans", 4 iirc, that could happen and still make the launch some time in October.

Also, the Bamboo has an additional restriction now for a total of 4 which is going to create more turbulence. The new PHS algorithm compliments the brand new heater, which obtains vaping temp in under 2 minutes. New enclosure, detachable cord, expanded capabilities, things are looking good . . .

Almost there...
Did i miss something about extending the launch of the Evo from October to November??
On Indiegogo it was due for October release but now on the Vapexhale website it says November?
It also mentions that if you pre-order you will receive it at the same time the IGG contributors get theirs, which now appears to be November?

Can anyone confirm this or point me to the post where the dates have been changed?

"By pre-ordering, you will guarantee yourself a spot as one of the first folks (outside of our Indiegogo Contributors) to receive the Could EVO. Pre-Orders, expected ship date will be early November"

IndieGoGo ones are made first, which get send in October, first. Then the regular pre-ordered that came after, are expected to ship in November, after the initial release.

First in, first out.

I remember only the oldest Clouds had only 3 restrictions. I think even long before Plus units were introduced there were 4 restrictions already. 3 at the top making 2 turbulence chambers. Fourth at the bottom probably for preheating or as intake filter.
Maybe they don't count the bottom one and there are 3 chambers now. Or moved the botom one up?

Seek, these are great questions and we are just going to have to wait for clarification. I just looked at both my Clouds, one old ticker and my +, and I can't see well enough in there to tell, but they look the same. I know Bamboo design changed for production purposes a while back. We lost the "flair" so that the glass pieces could be loaded onto a rod for feeding into assembly. I am interested to hear more about the latest "Bamboo" design and how it relates to production methods. Perhaps Professor Vape will bring us some news soon?

When everyone else preordered did it take the funds from your paypal account or will it wait until the unit ships to charge you?
