Mist Herbal Vaporizer

Every time I try and post something in the Mistvape thread I go to the Plug-In section. I have been using this on battery more and still forget its a portable. I seriously want the sun to come out so I can go on a walk and use this thing. Possibly get some pictures that aren't in my low lit room.

I'm surprised this thread is so inactive, I can't wait until there are different wood types. This has been my best convection unit for concentrates and I wasn't even expecting it. I'm going to do a video once I really start my day. I am getting vapor within 10 seconds for concentrates, I was not expecting this. Also with the dial at level 2.5 on the battery :o

Here's a shot I got of the Mistvape with a shorty stem next to some other portables for comparison. @mistvaporizer I am using thin silicone tubing from the Underdog.

EDIT:

Looks like we are on a new page, I just released a video on the previous page if you haven't seen it.

Well beauty in the eye of the beholder! The grain swirls of the Maple looks awesome, and I like how the wooden sheeth makes it seem more like one complete unit vs an open glass stem... Ofcourse it is on the beefy side but like Payt said its very desktop like in use, though I plan to test the battery as well. Mine should be here today perhaps

I also take function over form typically, why I love Zion/Milaana so much too, and the form grows on you if it works. I even liked my old Mist prototype that was like a box with random unnecessary cutouts bc it was the old conduction body shell, in that regard the final design seems muh better... @paytonpenn I really think you need to get a Milaana buddy, I don't really do concentrates myself but others are loving it for that (and its obv no slouch with herbs either!)

I plan to post plenty when my Mist arrives, my GH address confirmation just came too (not to mention I have a new HIbrid), but I am planning to rely on Mist for the most part. I haven't been doing much high temp and/or water vaping much lately though, but you have that covered so well anyway, I will be a good judge for the low temp profiles at least (and yes I will ofcourse crank it up too)

Edit: its here apparently, may have come yesterday and I just had checked the mail too early. Oh well means a Misty morning today...

Edit again:
Only one small bowl in still rough testing (also may actually be a problem with my batteries, old from the prototype), but here is another size comparison shot with what I have accessible. Nice and sunny here even inside, on its right is my new HIbrid, above is the old prototype, on the left is production body Zion then Milaana, while Daisy is above on left

The main MistVape design consideration was first and foremost to make the unit as small as possible without losing functionality. I think the fact that MistVape is both portable (30 minutes on a single charge) and desktop is a great feature. It could have curves or other fancier design features but that would just add useless bulk. All parts and finish material avoid toxic chemicals, air path is glass, aluminum, stainless steel and wood. The circuit board is ROHS compliant, of course that is out of the air path but still no lead or other nasty materials.
The wood finish could be enhanced with different materials but I like the mineral oil, beeswax, flaxseed oil non toxic approach.
So I take exception with it being the ugliest kid on the block but we are all entitled to our opinion

I don't have one yet, but I own a Milaana, and it is nice but it's not the eye catcher, if you leave Milaana in a tool/carpenter table between a bunch of carpentering tools and a Mist too, both without the stems, and I bet anyone would pick the Mist before Milaana, not knowing what they are. Besides, what's beauty?? Lately it's been over rated before functionality and endangering the world.
Noting , size wise are pretty much the same, looking at photo above. I read about your vape a lot of cool features, and portable plus desktop is a big yes for many, me included. I believe the price is right and there's always place for better versions in the future and better prices too when you're well established. I congratulate the inventive and care for your own product and your own health, keep going and stay vaped my friends...
By the way, what an improvement from the first design, the first design reminds me of an old school mouse trap mated with a MLFB... jajaja

Thank you so much @Zangano Cruel , it's been a long strange trip indeed. No telling where this will end up but I've been having fun doing it. Also have gotten to know some of the great members on FC, so whatever else happens that's all good stuff.
I have fifteen frame pieces cut for the next batch of MistVapes. Hope to get started in earnest on that batch next week. I still have to finish assembly on the last two from the current batch first. Oh yeah gotta get the garden ready this weekend! Veggie garden that is.

My old computer can't hang w/ that high def.. for every 2 seconds of video time this old computer lags for more than 5 seconds.. I gave up right away.. Seemed like a nice video though

Darn. I just wanted to see how the lighting would be in 4K versus 60FPS.

Sorry you (and others who) can't see it, I finally decided to talk while I use it and the overall shot seems better than the previous videos.

If you have a phone or tablet, they may fair better. Otherwise make sure its not above 1080p.

Impressive video and clouds!

ps: I watched it without the sounds, did you used concentrates or is it e-liquid?

Really really hoping to get in on the first run of this ! @mistvaporizer dont listen to the haters re:looks. I would vape out of a 4x4 unsanded piece of Plywood if it got me high as well as this vape looks like it's going to. I'm a home-body and almost never take my vapes out so I doubt I would even need the battery pack. I want to buy this more than just about anything, and I haven't even tried @Shit Snacks yet!!! :D

Nice review, although I did find it difficult at times to hear what you were saying due to the music volume being what I considered too high in the mix. ;)
I did spend the time adding subtitles just in case, future videos in the series will have music decrease in volume, l had dialogue increase but didn't spend time decreasing music in those sections.

thanks I appreciate the support. I don't worry about the folks that don't like the looks, that's a personal thing so no problem. I will keep going on with the project. The pics don't do justice to the quilted maple, it is beautiful wood.
Huge thanks to @paytonpenn for the great videos and all his input. I wouldn't have gotten to this point without his suggestions and advice.
@shitsnacks hasn't chimed in yet but it seems his unit is running a bit on the hot side and he isn't getting the flavor. The coil design is prone to hot spots so if I set the working temp while measuring outside the hot spot the overall temp is too high. I think this is what happened to snacks unit. Even so it seems his is very effective just not as tasty as I would have liked. I get two really tasty hits every load. Tastes just like the herb smells, my favorite part!

@Shit Snacks How long are you waiting to draw? Are you trying at lowest temp? How fast is your inhale?

I've noticed I could have been increasing my inhale speed. I am getting clouds at 1, with concentrates. Its definitely a different temperature as when I increase to 2.5 the density goes into another spectrum.

I also know that as soon as the coil glows within 3 seconds you can take a light puff and exhale visible vapor but its most likely going to be harsher than if you were to wait many seconds for the Mist to be considered at temp.

Honesty I wait a decent amount, unusually turn it on and then pour in a few tiny scoops using @Ratchett's scoop n poke, just enough to fill the basket (which is has been two or 3 baskets' length deep in the stem). I don't pay attention to coil or time, but puff on it at my own pace removing the stem after each hit to stir (save for a few back to back hits which were ok but ofcourse taste suffers more). I am drawing fairly slow and steady, but not like a conduction vape, still relatively fast considering, easier to get good convection vapor than in say an Underdog imo but maybe that's just bc I had been trained on UD way back when.

I am only using the very lowest setting, inhale speed definitely can cash a bowl in one hit or two here if it wasn't too harsh on my throat. Taste is there at first then fades with each hit like most convection and this is a tiny load really, big clouds keep coming though. The density of the vapor and stoniness of the effects are pretty unbelievable, something that impressed me even with the old prototype and this one is more a polished experience. I was able to get over 8 full 10min sessions on the battery at this level too (4-5 bowls)

My biggest issue is the higher temp as MV said, mine may not be quite low enough ultimately since convection temps are often very relative to the users draw etc. I also have some personal preferences on the form factor (I actually preferred the box! lol) but the quilted maple is indeed gorgeous, ribbons of grain and extremely light weight btw even with battery. My other issue is perhaps the new wood and metal, even with the first fresh hits the flavor isn't quite as pure as some others in my collection, but like I said the performance overcompensates in my limited experience so far (probably just under 10 bowls, had two through my honeycomb bubbler too, same temp and still great clouds/effects, killed those tiny bowls in like 3 hits with that wider longer steady draw, still lowest setting)

@YungLeaner yes maybe this week or next finally? Can try Mist, Zion/Milaana, and actually my Hoppers are shipping any day now so maybe once they arrive? This is getting to be a risky line up for one session though... ;):freak:

One things for sure, when it comes to vapor production people are going to be very very happy with the Mist, of that much I am certain. It is a unique and well crafted device!

@Shit Snacks if you are able and have an entirely straight stem (or have your herbs kind of far back) could you try using another basket screen in between the herb and heater. I'm just curious towards if that makes any difference.

Entirely straight as opposed to? Sorry a bit confused, but all of my stems are straight, long glass GonGs. My herbs are further away than I had them with the prototype now, which already was further away than I would use Zion but closer than UD... I could try using one of my new HI slide-a-bowl WonGs which have Alan's two screen system though? You think that would be better at lowering the temp too? Nothing is falling in the heater the way I am using it btw, always start a fresh hit (or after a stir) hamster style inverted to seat the load with with heat from the bit like I do in Zi/Mi. I do like HI's double screen so you don't need to worry about that, but they are a little more fiddly than a single screen... Would pics help? Thanks Payt

Entirely straight as opposed to tapered gong or tapered direct draw. My concern wasn't things falling into the heater but screens can do a lot to reduce temp. I have really noticed this with the NimbinVap which they actually have a design that uses a couple screens in place of the heat exchanger to help prevent combustion.

You only need to cap the loaded bowls with a screen after loaded, you could use two screens (as to just one basket screen) bundled together first to really test it.

Considering the handmade factor and coil design it does make sense how some units can perform differently.

Ah that was actually my other thought if what you meant. I will give it a shot. As far as straight without GonG, I lost my UD straight stem so I don't... But maybe the test Zi/Mi stem from Alan is straight but shorter, might fit in here I guess but would likely be harsher than the longer GonG stems...

And absolutely this is a handcrafted work with variances but how low does your unit go? I think what's the harm in lower temps to allow for the wider range regardless of individual builds? I suppose we'll see, I may try another one to compare... But a big positive about the handcraft is that yes this maple is gorgeous

Yes a lower low end is something I need to look at. Some early MistVape units were too low so I'm a little gun shy about that I guess. So @paytonpenn what is the highest setting you have used? What is the highest you think is useful? From there I can tone it down and send snacks a different unit.

I see temps around 120C-160C at lowest temp but it can go higher. At 5 its about 180C-220C+.

My preferred range is 2.5-5. I know I don't want my unit to run any lower.

...Just realized I still had some herb in my grinder (from a couple months ago :uhoh:).
For science.. I'll load a bowl, of maybe .03g literally just covering the screen, I can still see the screen underneath.

It may seem like a lot because its zoomed, very ground, and literally has no depth.
8I2HXSL.jpg

On the lowest dial setting (I consider 0) I am tasting but not producing clouds.
Moved up to 1, I am pulling vapor, like visible vapor equivalent to a light/weak MFLB hit.
2, it's definitely an increase, production is solid, flavor is still good (4th actual hit with vapor, I took 3 hits on 1, then took the picture). 5th hit (on 2) still light vapor.
3, a bit more vapor comparable to good MFLB or low temp Firewood hit.
4, I could tell I consumed a lot of the thicker vapor in those lower temps and now the unit was trying to extract what little was left. It was better than three for one hit and just got wispier each hit.
5, I stirred the load and got a tiny cloud comparable to when I was at 2.

I decided to test with another bowl of the same size, I tried to take a picture of each abv but ended up moving the paper they were on and merging them.

This time I decided to start higher since I couldn't really test 4 or 5.
3, really good vapor, this is the lowest setting I would start for dry herbs. I only took a couple draws but they were both solid.
4, for a couple draws it was still good in flavor and the production was thicker than 3.
5, browned out the herb and I definitely see this being a favorite temperature of mine very comparable to using an a nylon stem in terms of roasting speed. My small load only got dark brown but I'm sure if I had loaded more it would've been an even deeper roast. All around both tiny loads were extremely well extracted. My temps are perfect.
