I@carussel: I like to puff it like a cigarette. Keep your lips around the stem, take a puff, another, another etc. Or other say suck it like a drink through a sraw. At 1st, i take a few. Near the end, when killing the bowl, I take over 20 pumps in 1 draw. When i discovered this technique, it delivered more intense hits and high than sucking steadily and slow. :2c:

I get similar results with repeated Sherlock style pipe hits.

I like to draw extra slow and to let a little in at the lips around stem this helps slow your draw even more but that's just me i put my solo on 7 24/7 so i am a big high temp vapist

not used a ascent, but i heard the launch was riddled with problems and it's had a rough go of it since then.

the solo however is proven and a solid vape. the best portable currently IMHO. :p

I've not yet owned the Ascent, and have been very critical pre-launch and launch...but my resistance to pulling the plug is softening as more positive reports and experiences are expressed here at FC. I don't think a comparison of the Ascent vs. the Solo is appropriate as they are two different animals entirely. I feel qualified to say that the Solo is an A+++ OUTSTANDING vape!

not to be a jerk, but really this question should go in the Ask FC section. you will get more attention from both Ascent and Solo user rather than mostly just solo users from this thread. :)

USE MACRO MODE BRO!!! ;)
These photo's are a year old.
I have a really good macro lens now.
However I'm not going to work hard because I cruise and don't try too hard.

However your right I need to be rebuked for my laziness!

Don't ask me of course because I don't own the Ascent.

I use the SOLO because their cheap and work well.

I use them differently than you do.

I place a glass screen on the stainless steel bowl side to keep direct contact off the flower.
1/2" SS Screen I use on the draw side to filter.

Now I only do this sometimes.

I mostly just use the 1/2" SS Screens. (Cheap and they work fine)

The glass ones I loose all the time.

Are the glass screens you pictured 3/8"? That's the only size I could find on ebay.

Cheers

It takes a little setup if you don't want to lose or drop them when loading and unloading the bowl but to me the less of it clogging up the stem and my mouth with bits the better.

How thick are those screens? How much of the bowl do they take up?? About 1/5??

I vape at levels 5-6 with my PNWT and HEGonG and sometimes the bud that touches the SS gets too cooked for my liking. I'm assuming these screens would solve that problem but if they're too thick that would be a problem too.

Ok in everyones mho ascent or solo?
I had a first gen Ascent, and I liked it a lot in some ways. My issue at the time was the off-gassing, and that made it a no-go for me. Having experience with both units, I would say that the choice depends on a few significant differences. If your main concern is size and portability, then the ascent is hands down the winner. You can fit it in your pocket and go. Not so much with the Solo. Other than the size factor (and maybe the "coolness" factor), the Solo beats the Ascent hands down in most categories. Price, efficiency, dependability, and vapor quality.

I often use these honeycomb screens (not too thick at all). First pack your bowl, then place screen over the pack. It doesn't effect the draw at all.

Sounds great. I'm surprised they're not more popular.

They allow you to use the highest temps then, right?

And give more of an even vape throughout the bowl??

Yes, right! When I use the honeycomb screens, I stack/stagger a few between layers of herb. Nice even ABV and very good vapor. More fun stuff I like to play with that works.

Go back about 100 pages and read fwd or just read backwards if that doesn't bother you. I am fairly sure all the info should be within those pages. Also reading from the beginning is not necessary as that was the original ceramic bowl model. Also old fixes where now there are diff ones.

Finally done :D

I have now got/ordered whats in my Sig, I plan on getting Pipe's AIO+ kit, as I've read many good things about it. As im still yet to own a vape, I was wondering are there any additions one would recommend I get once funds allow? I have my friend coming over from Vancouver in a week so he can also bring what i need for me.

Just to add, herb in UK is very expensive, so apart from making a move to vapes, Im always considering items to make my smoking more efficient.

Also a big thank you to you all here, it really is a great community with alot of knowledge on the topic...Keep up the good work :D

I tried his suggested method recently. The 3/8 glass screen in between the herb and the SS Bowl.

It takes up very little space in the bowl, I'm also using a Shorty PVHES GonG and I packed the bowl normal.

Despite the 3/8 not really taking up much space in the bowl, it's enough to keep the packed herb from touching the SS bowl. However as we know, SOLO has conduction not just from the SS bowl but from the glass stem, and now from the glass screen, in place of the SS bowl.

I'll take some pictures maybe tonight or tomorrow, but it does seem to improve the "even roast" a bit, every pack is different so it's almost impossible to get a good real data point without being much more careful and exact and doing side by sides. In general, in my head it seems better.

It's also fun :) Trying to figure out where to put that honeycomb when cleaning the bowl so you don't forget it or lose it keeps you busy.

The way the herb goes into the mouthpiece then into the top rem jive nds me of my Iolite, long sold. How dies it nit fall out? What keeps hash' keif snd wax from melting or falling into the heating chamber?

I have s MFLB, VG, snd volvano. I'm looking for something that also does hashes without clogging like the VG, or being ruined like the MFLB or just a pita like the volcano. Must be fast heating, small, non fllame driven and not get too hot to use after like my LB and metal VG. Silent is also important. I wakevin the night and want a few puffs without waking my SO too!

Is this the right vape for me?
