So I was over in this other thread discussing various vaporizers...

Well you know how this ends, I bought one

Here's a cross-post:

You guys make a very good point about the FV needing some technique; I was mainly referring to the difference in bowl sizes when I said that the FV was better for passing around.

Of course I meant amongst experienced vapers ;)

I haven't tried either one but those are the ones I am considering in that price range since I don't have a portable to speak of at this point. I would think that with the counting and the window that the FV technique is pretty easy to master, I especially like the "shaking" aspect in between hits/power-ups.

As far as versatility I was referring to the wide range of options available for the solo, but the FV has some very interesting (but quite different) options available as well: mainly their Stage 2 high-powered battery/convection setup.

As far as stealth goes the solo is easier to use in public with the soda cup trick, but the FV looks like a flashlight when not in use so there you have it form my perspective.

edit:
So guess what: I have a FV Stage 2 package coming in

They don't actually offer a stage 2 package. But when I visited their website the other day, I had noticed that their price was better than the ebay seller. And then I noticed earlier today, perhaps I checked back thanks to this thread, that flashvape had created their own ebay listing at the same price as their site, which I had visited the other day.

And I already had a question in mind, so I asked them through the bay if they had any plans to offer a stage 2 package so I wouldn't have pay for 2 battery chargers and 4 batteries since that's what ultimately interested me. They replied that since I was the first inquiry(!) through ebay, that they would make me a special package with the substituted upgrades in order to insure good feedback on their first ebay order!

Needless to say the transaction was completed tout de suite, as my only portable atm is a penvape that is questionable at best for herbal vaping and I had my eye on this puppy. Plus I am averse to hard draws and didn't feel like experimenting with unavailable screens to try and correct that issue on the solo. Especially after my time with the pax.

I am thinking of a mod to make it function as an actual flashlight, but we will see how practical that is when it gets here!

I also told them that I would do them one better and discuss my findings over here; I guess I should go check out the FV thread now. I'm pretty sure that most are happy with it but I haven't actually read anything about the stage 2 upgrade besides on their site. But I'm pretty sure I'll like it, what can go wrong with moar power and moar convection?
:bigleaf:

So what's the deal on this stage 2 thingie I have coming in :huh:

edit:
Yes :D It turns the FV into a convection beast.

I'll try and catch up now (fires up lsv and headphone amp)

Congratulations, excellent choice. Some of us have been pestering FlashVAPE to offer a Stage 2 package so it's encouraging to see that you are getting one. You'll find FlashVAPE to be quite responsive and helpful.

The S2 kit converts the FV from a conduction device into a 100% convection device by raising the tabbed screen that your load rests on above the heater screen. This delivers smooth tasty hits while reducing the risk of combustion, although it is certainly possible to reach combustion in S2 mode. You can further reduce this risk through the simple expedient of holding the FV upside down when you hit it. In fact, I recommend this method in the beginning because the new FVs run quite hot at first, and it will let you get used to the taste and heat of the vapour flow, from which you will soon learn to detect whether combustion is close.

great invention!!!
we were actually planning something similar during private discussions with another member, an exterior light source, a clip on..... you got the idea bang on here! nice!!

Did this ever go anywhere? I have some rapidly-evolving ideas for this as well, and was thinking of making it a CAD project later this year.

I have been reading this thread in preparation, prior to receiving my Flashvape. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions! You have helped me very, very much! The only vaporizer I have used the past few years are my Magic Flight Launch Boxes. I was excited to try something new, but I admit, a little apprehensive at first.

My Flashvape arrived today. I was pretty confident that I understood it before I took everything out of the box. BTW, I have the Stage 2 kit, and inserted that immediately. I didn't even want to try using the FV Stage 1 because I was really afraid of combustion after reading all the posts here.

I know better than to mix up the batteries and chargers, and I will always keep them separate. I can immediately feel if the FV is getting close to combustion, and I back off the power switch immediately. It's almost like instinct. In fact, using this FV is very much like using my Magic Flight Launch Boxes! :D

This could very much be an OCD thing, but I find myself needing to remove the top after each hit to make sure the herb is even on the screen. Am I stupid for doing that? You can say yes, I won't be offended. Damn, I think I'm stoned!!! I can't remember the last time I have been this stoned!! I took maybe 5 or 6 good hits from this FV and that's it! I'm impressed!

I loaded my cherry LB with a trench of finely ground herb, then dumped that into the FV. I wanted to get a comparison. I could probably use a lot less. Wow, I think I am getting more stoned as I type this! This vaporizer is really kicking me! I'm using the same amount of herb as my LB's, and the exact same finely ground herb. However, I seem to be way more medicated than when I use my LB's!! I feel like I can get medicated quicker with my FV too!

On a side note, this sucker is heavy! It feels very sturdy. I feel like I could use it to whack an intruder! :goon: Not that they would get past our dogs, though.

In conclusion, I have determined that this vaporizer can get you medicated in a flash! I am very happy, and very medicated!! Flash Gordon would be proud.

BTW, who was it that used the Magic Flight concentrate trays in the FV? My mind is a blur after almost 75 pages of reading, and I can't remember.

***I'm glad I finally finished writing this! I think I started it an hour ago!!! :lmao:

We actually used 2 trays, so they pretty much filled up the entire bowl and kept each other horizontal for the most part. We used the heat of the other vaporizers to "reduce" the oil into the trays. Then after letting them cool, we carefully placed them into the FV bowl.

It was a little tricky, but not too bad. After we placed the trays in the bowl I realized that I'd forgotten to take out the S2 spacer for this test. But I didn't want to hassle with removing everything and re-placing the trays so we just left the spacer in for the vid.

I get medicated so often through the day.... and I switch strains to stay "fresh" and current.
That being said... let it suffice to say it did not matter "WHAT" I was vaping...
..as much as it does that I vaped it through my FlashVape with it's Stage2 in place~
I like the way you mix it up.
I have GIRL SCOUT COOKIES during the day.
GODS GIFT for the evening.
GREEN CRACK once in a while to mix it up.

I will pick up a FLASH VAPE just to mix it up a bit!
Maybe some more strains as well!
-DO NOT use any other battery in the FlashVAPE, other than the cells that came with your unit. The batteries that your FlashVAPE comes with are high quality specialty 18650 Lithium Ion (Li-Fe-Po4) batteries which are safer than traditional 18650 batteries, and runs on a lower voltage.
-ONLY use the included smart charger to charge your FlashVAPE batteries.
So my collection of AW's and PANASONIC 18650's are not compadable?

I have 3.7V 18650's and they will not work with the FLASH VAPE?
So I need 3.2V 18650's?

http://www.lighthound.com/AW-IMR-18650-2000mAh-LiMN-Rechargeable-Lithium-Battery_p_4075.htmlatible?
I have some of these however worthless for the FLASH VAPE?

A few of these?

If you do not have the S2 kit, you can use the 3.7V batteries but at your peril. They will heat up quite quickly and you'll have to be fast on the button to avoid combustion. You can make them work, however.

There's nothing about the FV that prevents you from using any 18650 battery, but some have protection circuits that will shut them down after 8-10 seconds because they aren't designed for high discharge. Others will run out of power pretty quickly. I don't know whether the ones you linked will work well, but there's no reason not to try them. Just remember that you should use 3.7V batteries for the S2 kit, and 3.2V batteries for conduction mode.

3.2V 18650 batteries are LiFePO4 and must be charged with a compatible charger, but if you own a mix you probably already know that.

Someone mentioned pure Kief in the FV the other day so I tried some really good full melt tonight with S2 batteries and spacers. Only OK clouds not enough heat.... removed the spacer. left 2 screens and piled a bunch more sand hash in there and OMG.

This thing rocks with bubble hash. S2 batteries without the S2 spacer.

big clouds, great flavor, and a great effect.

Yeah, the FV is my favourite piece to use for bubble and kief. I manage to get decent plumage with the S2 installed, but without you will definitely get a more direct and intense heat. Glad you are loving it ru_frothi!

I will say the most medicated I have ever been from vapor was the first time i used the FV in S2 mode, I dont know what it is but this thing gets me blitzed :freak: . My old silver bullet was having issues so i have a new black FV on order, cant wait to try the new version. I love how well the FV works with any size load, I usually barely cover the screen and this is plenty to get me very nicely medicated, but having the option to load a bunch for a group session is awesome.

What was the issue with your SB?

I dont know whats causing it but the my heating element screen(not sure what to call it) doesnt glow at all with a fresh S2 battery, I will see a slight glow from one side of the ceramic bowl that fizzles out after a second. I sent it in and mr FV was kind enough to replace the screen and gave me a spare one just in case. After getting it back it worked OK for about a week or so then it was back to the same issue, I replaced the heating screen myself with the spare FV gave me ( was really easy dont think I could have messed it up) After this it worked OK again for a couple days now its back to not working again. Once again FV's customer service is amazing and he gave me a great price on my new FV so its all good.

Well a video is worth a thousand words this is what happens with a freshly charged s2 battery. I think the heating screen is the issue but its been replaced twice. This is the video i took to show FV before i sent it in to get the screen changed, its doing the exact same thing now.

My early SB model started to behave like that. Open yours again and clean the copper rods, particularly the underside. It wouldn't hurt to clean the screen too, although it probably doesn't need it since it's new. Make sure you re-seat the rods firmly and carefully. When you screw the retainer back on, make sure it is really tightened. Try the glow test in a dark room. Let me know if that makes a difference. It got mine working again.

Unfortunately I've a S2 battery die on me. Wondering if its happened to anyone else?

The battery doesn't seem to hold power anymore, as I've left it charging overnight 2 times and the LED on the charger stays red. When inserted into the FV, it doesn't have enough juice to even dimly activate the green light, so it seems to be holding zero power at all.

The only thing I can think that might have caused this: I recently went on a 1 week vacation, and the battery problem only started happening immediately after I got home. The batteries were left with little or no power in them while I was away. Is it possible this killed the battery, by leaving it sitting on 0% for a week?

Sadly this is very possible. This is one of the most popular way to wreck these guys. Deep discharges (trying for 'just one more hit') are to be avoided.

This is the reason why you put protection circuits Li-ion batteries.

My advice is to keep them topped up. Ideal storage is generally about 3/4 charge, not good to let them sit below half IMO.

Sorry. Time to buy more I think. No recovery.
