Discontinued The Sublimator

Planet Vape just responded to my question of when to expect stock, they said it would be very soon, but didn't want to get locked into a time frame, in case something delays things. I'd start checking often if you are ready to pull the trigger. I don't have the $ for this right now, myself, so I will also have to wait a bit. I am very eager to see this moving forward, this thread has been really active.

Any mention if the FC coupon applies to this? :smug:

One of the first things I thought when I saw this vape was that it belongs in your lab. :D
Why yes, yes it does. Now if only the wife would agree . . . :haw:
I'm looking forward to learning more about the atomizer in this device. It makes sense that breaking the vapor into smaller particles while causing it to expand would deliver a potent hit. As has been said, let's not get caught up in names here. I think it's clear that this is a vape that works well, created by an enthusiast who cares about his product and customers. That's a win for us!
Amen brother. The particle size/atomizer thing really intrigues me . . . :)

I haven't seen any videos showing the device being used with water filtration. I wonder if it's a personal preference, technical detail with the stand, or perhaps the fine, dense vapor absorbs into water more readily.

Jam mentioned that the oil this produces might be similar to a decarbed RSO oil. If true it could be taken orally or mixed with DMSO to apply topically. I admit to not liking oils, waxes, and petrochemical solvent based concentrates, and I don't reclaim at all, but this device might change that, its definitely opened my mind to new possibilities.

Edit: Spelling.

Is there a way to have the maker answer questions here?.

I just realized that, even though it may break up the vapor into smaller particles with the atomizer, these particles will come together, and stick, making them "thicker" again when they cool off past the heater. This is what a cloud is. If anything it may be harder to absorb being that you now have more particles coming into contact with the cool air, and becoming more condensed then if you were to just boil them off, and let them be.

I just don't understand how this will make it easier for the lungs to absorb, when a regular vaporizer is creating a gas which is thin enough for the lungs to absorb, unless you have thick cloud. The alveoli can absorb substances that are 1 micron or less, and a nice thin mist is exactly that. I don't understand how a thick cloud will get absorbed easier then a thin mist, when that goes against how the lungs work.

http://www.merckmanuals.com/home/lu...the_lungs_and_airways/defense_mechanisms.html

"The average person who is moderately active during the daytime breathes about 20,000 liters of air every 24 hours. Inevitably, this air (which would weigh more than 20 kilograms) contains potentially harmful particles and gases. Particles, such as dust and soot, mold, fungi, bacteria, and viruses, deposit on airway and alveolar surfaces. Only small particles less than 3 to 5 microns in diameter penetrate to the deep lung. Fortunately, the respiratory system has defense mechanisms to clean and protect itself."

Anyway, I realize I'm being a party pooper so I will stop posting about these things I mentioned, but if anyone can get the maker in here to answer some questions, that would be nice. Peace everyone.

The heat transfer and state change occurs on and next to the walls of the stem, thats why reclaim accumulates there. So its possible the particle size remains small in the vapor that remains and is delivered.

I'm no scientist by any means, but wouldn't passing the vapor molecules through cold water condense it further?

I wonder if Enrico recommends using water filtration at all?

Certainly not. You are just trying to understand this as much as we are. "An unanswered question is better than an unquestioned answer."

If it cooled down on the walls, then the vapor cooled down, and created a cloud, it just didn't cool down enough to become a thick liquid again as it didn't touch the wall. Remember air cools off very quick, and the longer the vapor has to travel, the more it condenses, as it is in constant contact with the air. Once you make smaller particles, you allow it to condense even faster.

Water filtration is essential for me since I medicate every day with dosages targeted for pain relief. It removes a lot of water soluble "grassy" components from the hit that I don't want. Try vaping through some water and then take a sip and taste it. You will understand immediately what is being removed. One thing about combustion is its a violent process that fractures molecules radically. Vaping I think is a gentle process in comparison, so any reduction in particle size would be welcome I think.

I think your analogy to hydrology may be lacking. When water vapor makes clouds it does so in an atmosphere (think solvent) that is similar in polarity. Cannabis vapor is oil based so we are creating an oil based vapor in a non-like carrier if you will. More of an aerosol maybe. Assuming the same principals apply in both these scenarios, and that clouds form and particles act the same, may be an error.

Oils absorb oxygen, and light, very easy, this is why it is best to store your herb or even your cooking oils, in an airtight, light free container if you want your them to last indefinitely . This is also why thc can oxidize to cbn so easily when it is exposed to hot air.

Oils are so good at absorbing oxygen from the environment, that linseed oil(flaxseed) can cause a fire just by being soaked on a rag left out to sit in a box. It's because it absorb oxygen so fast that it creates heat, which gets the rag hot enough to release some oil to create a flash point, and start a fire. All of this with no external heat source.

Also, lipids/alcohol soluble substances are not the only things being released. Some flavonoids are water soluble, and they will effect condensation as well.

One of the vids I just posted shows them using a RooR water piece w/ the sub...

**edit**
I just checked again, and looking closer, I think he was using it dry. I think it's a preference thing, as I have heard them talk before about whether to use water or not, and he said it was just what some people prefer, but it hit so smooth it wasn't needed to condition the hit. That was my understanding of it anyway...

I would love to have a closer look at where they are taking the reclaim from...I wonder if using water would possibly interfere with that, since the stem would be submersed?

good point ^^

I was just sitting here thinking what do I need to sell in order to get my hands on one?? It really looks like a bit of a game changer to me, and I like that it's not big/bulky. I'm not sure if I would give up the water, I guess it all depends on how it felt using it dry regularly. Hard call to make with out getting to try it.

Hey Hippie...I don't have one just yet...that is a vid from sublimator. I would be glad to take some measurements when I eventually get one! Here is a Canuck destroying the Sublimator...that is the kind of madness I envision once it lands in my neck of the woods :D

The unit with the whip looks like it's hard to clear, and has a tight draw. Was that the one you tried, Paka?
