Discontinued Omicron Vaporizer for oils

Good point, let's hear it for class C....and D for the radio geeks out there, both of them.
OFFTRACK

Actually, Crown invented the class D for audio apps (didn't they win the "Queen's" award in '72 for it) and still sells equipment for reproduction and production (i.e. guitar amps). I didn't realize they get used much in radio gear (make sense though) - I must be really old because several HAM friends are into rebuilding tube equipment and I have been in far too many conversations about the benefits and drawbacks of various Soviet tubes.

BTW. I seem to remember a 400W Crown stereo amp was nearly $2K in '74 - The prices have gone down a lot since then (and no one is pushing electrostatic speakers anymore either - Dalquist anyone - same timeframe).

Naw, they might want you to think they invented class D for audio, but it was there long before their sails came over the horizon. High power PA systems used it long before (usually sacrificing higher frequency fidelity) for instance. It's a handy way to get big power without the big problems in class C stages, but it depends on being able to work at much higher frequencies (you need RF, or at least IF, grade parts to do audio) which is one reason cost came down.

The classic transmitter final is class D, and depends on a resonant load in the collector (drain, plate, whatever....). CB radios are a good example. Used for the same (efficiency) reasons of course. Without it CB would have probably have been too expensive for all those truckers, 10-4 Good Buddy?

Hey guys let me apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I currently have the omicron and I love it. I have a friend who wants to get one and I'm wondering if I should recommend they get the o-phos. I've read almost all of the pages on this board and I still can't find a difference in features between the two besides the battery and the o-phos is $30 cheaper. Am I missing something here? Is there any reason to go with the omicron over the ophos?

Thanks in advance and please don't flame me if this is a dumb question.

O-PHOS  [ tethered ] offers voltage output up to 4.2 v :brow: ,which will be more than ample  to deliver herb via ''Hercules'' ; or ,oil/wax/budder via 1.5/2.4 carts ['"un"'tethered ] psst* ... besides offering an excellent stealth profile [ black ] :smug:

Not a dumb question at all IMO. If you'd like a few dumb answers, I think I can help you out.

First off, I don't have an O-Phos but have a couple V1s, and a V2 (with V2.5 and HVD heads no less....). I see two advantages of interest. First off is V2 being modular, better heads are already available with more to come. Also with this come High Voltage and mini version options.

Secondly, I think the replaceable battery is a big plus. It's much easier to quickly swap out a spare and vape on than go looking for a place to plug in.

You're welcome, I hope it helps the decision process. Always hard to shop for a friend, try buying glasses for one sometime........

That portable glass chamber looks really cool, but that price is just too much for me. I understand you are probably paying a premium to get these made but to me it just seems too costly for something that would be so fragile.

Makes sense. It shouldn't be all that frail, consider a beer bottle is not so well made and is pretty tough. It won't take too much abuse no doubt, but plastics and other materials might be less robust. Not a good thing to drop for sure.

I know the cost seems high, but you ought to see the price tag on some of the nicer 'glass pieces'.......

I'm glad I got in on $100, I seriously doubt I'd ever go two. Then again, it might be once they get out maybe 'the smart money' thinks two hundred is a deal? Time will tell.

I didn't hear of that I was talking about user error. And it still seems too costly for me, the manufacturing costs should be payed over time not a higher cost for the customer(or patient in this case)

That is the cost of production plus overhead we have, you have to understand we do have a high overhead because of our research and development. It costs a lot of money to do one off designs and test them out, Then there is the cost of retooling, the cost of packaging, marketing, employees, you know the list goes on. Labor in America is not cheap. This Glass piece is Made in America and plus The Bender is not made by your average glass blower it is made by a scientific glass blower that is capable of making such devices with tolerance levels only known in the scientific community. We understand that for some the cost is a little to high, that is why we have other options. Maybe one day someone will copy our research and bring you the Bender for cheaper and it will happen, but they wont have a replacement program or offer you the great customer service and quality we offer. Its all about what you pay for.

I hate to break it to you but all costs involved (inc manufacturing) are payed by the consumer. On everything I've ever seen for sale in any industry. Why would a vape be different?
I would love to buy a Lamborghini but it's not in my budget. I guess I should complain to Lamborghini to lower their price? Maybe get the exoticar driving cannabis patient half off discount? I deserve it! Right? ;)

Good gear cost. Always has, always will.

Economics 101....

--edit-- Just ordered one after I made this post..the bender, not the car. Someday..

Hmm... Ec101 - maybe you should have tried to stay awake during the second term :)

There's a term for when unrelated parties carry some or all of the costs - "Externality". For simpler examples try "public good", "tragedy of the commons" or go all out and look at "Coase's Theorem".

Everything that you say is likely correct for vapes, in general. But one specific counter example is D9/W9/UP is in CA, with a corporate tax, which must be borne by the producer in an efficient competitive market (you could argue that vaporizers aren't this, because different products aren't fungible). A competitor elsewhere could have lower costs, but this cannot be passed on or the consumer will just buy the less expensive version. (Gee, most of those of you in CA pay higher personal taxes than the corporate rate!). Remember the that the efficiency criteria that marginal cost of production equals price does NOT include any fixed costs of business (of course this doesn't hold for monopolies or oligopolies, or inefficient markets - this case may be all of these).

The best examples for most people would be what you pay for water, electricity and telephone service. Basically anytime there is a tax, fee, duty or subsidy involved - Consumers (and/or producers) may not be paying all of the costs. And when you see those line items like "tax recover fee - not a government fee", it means that your local PUC has allowed a utility to pass on a tax which your legislature "designed" to be borne by the producer instead of the consumer, but a different group of politicians decided otherwise.

Milk, corn and oil are good examples of commodities where costs are only partly related to retail (i.e. consumer's) prices. And of course, every related product is affected too - Bacon comes from pigs who are fed corn - Gasoline incorporates mandated and subsidized ethanol from corn, at least in NY and CA. Etc. Ad nauseum

Quick check of an old copy of Samuelson - Try looking up "Pigovian tax" - That should have been in any first year economics course (way before micro becomes all diffEQs and macro because all linear programming and game theory).

Again, as far as vapes, your (mostly) correct. For "any industry" you are very far from the mark. Good gear costs - absolutely, but who pays...

BTW. A Mercedes SL550 costs significantly less today than an SL500 did 16 years ago. Mercedes hasn't lowered their prices, but the luxury tax on that car has fallen by about 3/4 this century. I'd guess the Lamborghini is similar (but sorry - I've not actually priced them myself).

Should I give up the Masters as well? I try to simplify and you had to bring up Samuelson and of all things ethanol subsidies? lol Don't talk to me until you price that Lambo! ;-)

BTW: How many "you are correct" and "mostly correct"'s does it take to make a "correct"? lol

As long as the Masters wasn't "free" from Oxbridge - and then you probably deserve it anyway.

Without absolutes, one "correct" or "mostly correct" would be enough - with an absolute, there can only be "all" or "sorry" :)

You would probably need a half century or so of practice to get close.

While splitting hairs, we could allow you poetic license, but you probably meant "thou" rather than "thee" (unless you're a Quaker). Your line is a comparative ("like" or "as"), so using the objective case is technically incorrect. Now whether you'd claim it was intended to be a simile...

Ok update on the Hercules yes it works on the ophos but no it will not hold up to extended use. The electronics in it are just not that strong.
