I'm not sure who brought it up earlier, but a wisp of cotton in the stem works great! Stays in there nicely, and filters great. I feel that it also helps improve the draw as well by keeping the herb out of the 4 (or 2) holes. I hate dealing with screens and this IMO is a better alternative. Just rip the and off a q-tip and stick it in your stem. If I am not mistaken I believe you also end up vaping the oils that get caught in the cotton . Give it a try. it took me forever to do it, and now I won't do anything else. Good luck!

Hey Ed, back on the subject of shorty stems on the solo for a second, would it be possible for you to make a shorty stem but instead of just a thin tube, above the bowl can you make that thing just like a fatty wood mouthpiece? ya know KINDA like a hookah mouthpiece? but not all tacky? or would that have problems with heat or anything else? I just want a more comfortable mouthpiece than sucking on a straw

If I did that to the piece then you wouldnt be able to use it as a bubbler/bong. You also have to add more wood and would wind up costing more than the standard.

Thanks ill try that out, which end do you stick the cotton ball though?... on top of the bowl? or behind the bowl (stick it through the mouth piece end) I cant imagine it being on top of the bowl because herb would get caught up in the cotton wouldnt it causing a sticky mess?

thanks boobs... I just quickly tried cotton out of J&J cotton swab ... couldnt get it to stay put, kept falling around and it was quite restrictive more than the screen method (2hole stem)... maybe im doing it wrong.

maybe use like 1/3 of the swab and just fluff it up then stick it in there. maybe a slightly used stem works better since it will have some oils in there to help keep the cotton in place. i don't really do this any more. now i just heat up my stem and swab it then vape the cotton ball.

interesting... iv been wasting all my wand hash down the drain cause all the methods iv read on reclaiming it seemed like too much work. I might try your idea out... which vape do you use for the cotton ball?

Infact, I have barely used hash oil ... I made it twice with duff and once with real herb. Havnt gotten into it yet. With all these new pen style vapes for concentrates on this forum , Im really itching to try out concentrates. and iv been watching a bunch of videos of people using oil rig setups..

dabs are when you use a glass or ti nail. you dab the wax/oil on the hot nail.
