A short piece of 3/8" wooden dowel with a hole drilled in one end big enough to accept the end of a straightened coat hanger will push that 'good stuff' right out of your tubing.

Hi everyone. I've owned a Volcano Digit ever since it came on the market and I love it. In the past year though, the cord/digital temp read out started giving me problems and I would have to replug it into the electrical outlet over and ocer and over in a slow manner to get the temp to reset and start from a blank screen, otherwise it might start from random temp numbers that would appear on the screen and not even vape my product.

Now to catch up to present day...I've been on a 3 month tolerance break/100% clean right now and the first two weeks werepretty rough but I made it through. I decided to FINALLY expand my vaporizer collection and after lots of research, I ordered a Silver Surfer vaporizer with the newer spherical glass. What can I expect in terms of vapor quality, density, heat times, etc in comparison to the Volcano I've been used to for so long? Any information is appreciated.

....the silver surfer is a great vape....I must preface my remarks by stating I have never used a volcano....like the volcano however, the ss will allow you to experiment with different temps....I'm sure you will enjoy...

Thanks for the reply. I've read a lot of good things about the SSV and its longevity in the vaporizer market speaks volumes. I should mention that I'll be using this mainly for solo home use and share with my wife who likes to vape too. Is there a big difference between the standard ground glass and the spherical glass that I ordered? Is the cheap hands free attachment worth getting? Since this has a knob as opposed to my Volcanos digital read out, what are some good knob positions to vape, considering that I would usually vape my Volcano between 360 - 375 F? Sorry for all the questions but FC seems to be the leader in vaporizer knowledge.

....no problem...yes the ssv is def. a "home vape"...I too have the spherical glass wand and heating cover.....very nice "seal" to it....get an extra wand.....if by some mishap you drop your wand ....you will NOT be happy...get extra screens too...I didn't do the "hands free"....I don't have a problem with my hands ...plus...I do enjoy rotating the wand on the heater element.....as far as temp..there are many variables....flowers only?...or you adding hash/kief/oils?....
when I 1st got the ssv I vaped at 3pm....than I went down to 12 noon....now I'm about 10-11...at this point there may come a time where I just "show" my herb a heating source.....:)

I'll just be using the main product ground up via my Storz & Bickel grinder. I will definatly get another wand and screens since it's always good to have back ups. Thanks for all your help.

I just received my SSV in the mail today and I'm really impressed with everything that was included. I won't be testing out its functionality until tomorrow evening or Saturday but it looks promising.

Are there any SSV owners who have the $65 water filter cooler moisturizer? If so, how does it perform? I couldn't find any videos on youtube showing it in action.
http://silversurfervap.com/water-filter-cooler-moisturizer-90-spiral.html

It looks amazing and since I've read so many people in favor of vapor through water, I might have to give this a try. I'd rather go all out and get this one instead of the $11 water pipe attachment.

I love how 7th Floor provides an arsenal of accessories and attachments with lots of customizable options. However, I could never justify spending $95 on their 4 inch 4 piece grinder...my S&B grinder does the trick perfectly and I'm not one who collects kief. I still think they're a class act company and I'm happy to be part of the SSV community.

There ya go.:)
I quite like how it functions :D

EDIT: Unless you prefer the aesthetics of the spiral arm, I would go with the 6-arm version.
You will get more diffusion with the 6 arm

I actually shot that one a while ago.
I was just re-posting it for drumwizard
Watching that vid tells me one thing though; It's been too long since I hit my SSV

Thanks turk and Frederick! I think I'm definitely going to get one of those water filter cooler moisturizers with the 6 arm. Can you just run the vapor from the SSV through the 6 arm with water? I don't really want to buy another water pipe (the SYN mini beaker in the video). I'm probably going to pick up one of their cool looking storage jars as well.

My wife and I tried out the SSV last night with a kush strain variety and I was impressed! The spherical glass really works well and I was amazed at how much LESS product I needed as opposed to my Volcano. We had 2 sessions with the SSV and still used less than it would have taken to fill the Volcano for 1 session. I felt that in general, I was getting more hits from such a small amount of product than the Volcano ever provided me. For 1 session, I used about 1/3 of what I'd use in the Volcano and was equally or more medicated.

I know the temperature knobs are supposed to vary from unit to unit so it took a little getting used to. I started off at 12 o'clock but all I got was a minor taste of vapor. I noticed the best vapor came from between 2 and 3 o'clock. However, after it was around 2-3 o'clock for a while, I could turn the knob down to about 1 o'clock and get better vapor quality than when I orginally built up to 1 o'clock. It seems like to you have to crank the temp up a little bit before you can go back down.

To sum up my first experience with the SSV:

CONS:
-knob temperature gauge takes getting used to and seemed that I had to crank temp up before I could go back down to lower settings
-you have to be careful with the glass pieces because they get hot and you don't want to break them
-you need to use your lung power a lot more than with bag vapes

PROS:
-extremely efficient with only having to use about 1/3 the amount needed for a Volcano session
-completely quiet
-gives you a wide range of vapor quality from lots of taste and clear vapor to much more dense, make you cough vapor hits
-well worth the price it sells for
-customization and accessories available from 7th Floor
-comes with a quality hemp bag with pockets for all the components

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and think it was well worth the money. I was extremely medicated last night (mostly because I've been on a T-break for 3 months) and enjoyed every moment. I think the SSV is going to be my main unit for a while!

.....I actually believe that the temp control knob is a plus......it encourages experimization which in turn gets you to know your instrument,,,..that's a good thing,,,
...I agree all 7th floor products are pretty damn reliable....and you are correct one must be careful about glass breakage....it's a real bummer....really nice review drumwizard, glad it pleased you and your wife...

Glad you like it. The SSV leaves few buyers disappointed.

the best vapor came from between 2 and 3 o'clock.
That's not only personal preference, but draw speed has to be taken into consideration, as well as the switch on point. If it clicks on at 9 instead of 7, and draw speed is fairly fast, your 2-3 could be 11-12 for other SSV owners.

knob temperature gauge takes getting used to
 It's a analog dial. IMO the only issue is the lack of markings on the housing, for a reference point. And even if it had those, the temp wouldn't be consistant unless your draw speed was always the same. Herb consistency, dryness, how much you load, and whether you rotate the wand also play a part.

I had to crank temp up before I could go back down to lower settings
That's simply due to not allowing a long enough heat up time, especially if you're interested in waiting for conduction heat from the heater cover.

Thanks for the feedback max. I always use the stirring rod after every couple draws and rotate the spherical glass as I'm inhaling (as I've seen done in youtube videos).

I still can't get over how little medicine is needed for a complete experience. I guess I just got used to 0.5g-0.7g (depending on quality and how well you grind it) in my Volcano chamber. Although lately I've read people suggesting Plenty owners use the liquid pad for smaller amounts in the big chamber. I've tried this method before with the Volcano and the experience wasn't exactly the same as having a filled chamber. The SSV conserves a lot more medicine than my Volcano ever could.

Ok - hit the "checkout" button on my order yesterday. Had the cart filled for a while, but it was TIME. Thanks to all here, as felt I had the info I needed on setups and VTs (got the Saturn, now that it's back in green!). Now just have to wait for the package from 7th Floor. Feel like a kid on xmas eve!

I've noticed a few things now that I've used my SSV on a daily basis:

-no matter what temp I set the knob to, I never get any vapor in the first 2 draws because I think the spherical glass has to heat up first

-The hits are overall a little harsher, less taste, and less dense than the vapor from my Volcano bags

-The glass piece where the medicine goes needs to be cleaned out after every handful of uses otherwise it will be much harder to clean

Overall I still think the SSV is a great vaporizer for the price and is more efficient than the Volcano. I think it's perfect for vaping solo and for conserving your stash. However, the Volcano is going to be my multi person vape for more flavor and ease of use. I've also been using the Volcano to vape the re-grinded popcorn from the SSV and I get about 3-5 bags.

I'm curious, would an 18mm LSV WPA placed into a GonG handsfree HC essentially turn it into a Spherical HC?
Because that would be pretty cool :)

I don't know of any persistent coupons for 7th floor.
Have you signed up for their newsletter?
I believe that is the best way to keep up to date on their coupon codes (unless a nice FC member comes here and tells us about it.)

I called 7th Floor last week to see if they had any active promos going (or coming up). The only thing they mentioned was the sale on glass jars through the end of the month. So, I just gave up and ordered - didn't want to miss out on my VT color choice!

Now the hardest part is the wait. I know sometimes shipping notices don't get out (I ordered something from them before - no shipping notice, just ended up at my door), so am keeping watch for the package.
