WOW!!! Thank you!!
Do you also have fine grind grinders? Another one would not go amiss!

No problem!

We don't have a fine grind grinder, yet. We're still trying to figure out the best design. Something completely new that works.

But more importantly, we need to sell some more products and get more well known first. Our biggest limitor to all kinds of awesome custom products is a lack of distribution.

Yes as I keep you saying @InterplanetaryTanner and the ID team are truly next level...

I ground one small amount of white widow in it so far (with middle section removed) and I dono, not very fine or even at all, maybe need to load in more, larger nugs at once? Obviously I need to test it more than just once too lol

Will report back, my SLX should arrives soon too and I have SCS as well. Will try to compare

I have two SCS grinders. One large 3-piece rasta, and a black medium 3-piece. These grinders produce the most fluffy grind of all my grinders. It is a beautiful grind and great for vaping. My guess is the fluffiness has something to do with the aggressive SCS tooth design. Which brings me to the 'one issue' I have with the SCS are its fabulous cutting teeth. They have concave surfaces on two sides of it's somewhat squarish tooth. These little valleys on the teeth get filled with the good stuff and it is a pain in the ass to clean up. First I scrub with a ISO dipped tooth brush which gets the obvious stuff, and then I take a toothpick and clean both valleys out on each tooth. Out of all my grinders the SCS grinders take the most effort to clean, but I love these grinders for the exceptional fluffy grind they produce. SCS are sweet grinders indeed.

I spent almost half an hour when I wanna clean my SCS. :freak:On the other hand I do it only when I am out of herbs with ISO dipped q-tips which I later dry out completely and have a few bonus sessions off the resinous cotton in the Omni or Eraser!!! :D

My scs 2 piece is a real pain to turn. Not very well made. And it is an awkward thing to grip. I actually much prefer the look of the herborizer grinders. They look easier to grip and twist, smarter looking as well.

Could you not just soak a SCS in ISO for a while, quick brush with a toothbrush or something, and then hot water rinse? Or a ziplock bag with ISO and but in a bowl of hot water?

That's how I clean all of my metal grinders. Remove the plastic ring that usually is along the top piece, disassemble the grinder, pop in a mason jar with enough EtOH to cover it completely, immerse the jar in water which has reached a boil (careful not to heatshock and crack the jar), then come back 8-24 hours later (overnight or after work for me).

A few quick swabs with qtios over the threads and then a soak in some water, changing it once all parts have been cleaned, and then leave the parts out to dry.

I reuse the EtOH until it gets very murky, pour it off and evaporate the ethanol, decarb and make into capsules. Super easy and no need for rituals or significant effort.

My grinder collection (and everything else) was illegally seized by cops about a year ago. One of those grinders was a small ("Medium" now?) matte orange 4-piece SCS. In the time I had that grinder (nearly a year, probably), I never cleaned it. I never needed to.

I've only bought one grinder since then; a small/medium matte blue 4-piece SCS. I've had it for about four months. Haven't cleaned it.

SCS knurling used to be awesome for people like me (gimps). But of course they changed it, which has made it essentially useless.

Unrelated, I also bought a Volcano a few months ago. I don't use the Volcano grinder much, but I love it. With my bad manual dexterity, I pretty much can't use 2-piece grinders anymore, but I can use the Volcano grinder because of its size and design. If I ever find myself without a grinder again, I'll probably buy a $5 Volcano grinder.

Have you still not used your vapcap yet Ryan? They are pretty good. I really believe thay may be the most popular and fastest selling vaporzier on the planet right now.

So sorry about the asshole paramedic and of course cops. Who needs wankers like that hey?!!

I have kind of used the Vapcap a couple times. I think I combusted each time, but I probably learned something the last time. I guess the main reason why I haven't really used it yet is because I thought I'd make a first-time-using video before incorporating into my rotation.

To keep this post on topic: When I received my Volcano, I was surprised that the free grinder (not the Volcano grinder) looked pretty decent, unlike most free-with-vape grinders. It's a Grindhouse. I haven't used it, but it looks surprisingly nice.

Got a load through the SLX, same white widow but a little more, the honeymoon hype is real! The nonstick is amazing, moist dense nugs even (though I break into little pieces to load grinders between their teeth), and the holes and teeth are great. The wide 2.4inches is really nice, so many teeth too, it is just a little shallow it's true, but that does keep it small (the fully assembled GR8TR with middle sifter section is super tall, oh and that's an old ID logo on it btw)

Obviously still early, only one grind in each new grinder one strain, but so far both are course grind, could try SLX upside down more with that slick surface, though that could gunk it quicker. I also took out the second gasket in the SLX for the lower chamber (obviously took out the sifter too) bc it was a bit loose and these other grinders don't seem to have one there, just for the top sections, so it's probably fine without it?

I also really love this purple! Will be back with more photos and reports as I continue to test

Does anyone else save their sugar leaves for grinding then sift for a whole bunch of kief? I can't stand the taste of leaves but I find that grinding them fine and using my space case as sifter gets me some okay-ish kief out of a pile of stuff I wouldn't have vaped.

Don't remove the gasket.
Grinding upside down is what I do what the slx Everytime. I do it with every grinder. It gunks up slower.

Some grinders use a gasket others don't. If they do, don't remove em it's there for a reason.

What is the reason? It's kinda ugly and annoying being loose... This is the first I've seen with a gasket there

Upside down gunks slower? Total opposite of my experience

It's been my experience that turning a grinder upside down is a sure way to get weed into places where it shouldn't be. My Space case won't tolerate any grinding whilst upside down or it's immediately sticky and hard to turn.

:rolleyes:Kinda funny. I have one grinder that I've had for a million years. OK, maybe 20. It has no label and I have NO idea whose it is, but it has served me pretty faithfully for that time. Lately I have been thinking it may be time for something new as it is not as smooth as it used to be.
For the last couple years in here most people, notably @Shit Snacks (as we are often in the same thread), have been recommending the Santa Cruz for most of the things I look for in a grinder. But NOW there has been a clear trend towards SLX. What is a guy to do?

So, you guys figure it out and repost back BEFORE 420, if you would be so kind.

Hi all,

I need to purchase a grinder for my Herbalizer. Originally I was planning on buying a Lift Innovations grinder, but after doing more research I think there may be better options out there.

It looks like the top 2 in the last few pages of this thread are the SLX and Gr8tr grinders, but I haven't been able to find someone who's done a shootout yet between those 2.

From what I understand, the SLX is desirable for its non-stick coating, and the Gr8tr is desirable for its modularity. Since I have only been using an Herbalizer (I also have a Crafty, although I haven't used it in awhile), and the Gr8tr has a vape specific plate, would I want to go for the Gr8tr? The SLX doesn't have the option to exchange plates.

I also plan to try the Storz & Bickel Dosing Capsules in the Herbalizer, if that makes a difference.

The other 2 that people seem to like here are the SCS, and the Super Weapon. I understand the SCS can be hard to clean. What are the selling points of the Super Weapon?

And any other grinders you think I should consider based on what I typed above?

Thanks.

I love the SCS 3 piece and it is easy to clean. Smooth grinding action and the threads are finely machined

Selling points of the super weapon are massive chambers, concaved chambers, removable kief screen, section of missing teeth so easy to just drop a nug in that spot and grind enough without having to break it up by hand.

The grind is more coarse than fine, but it seems to be pretty good for all of the devices I use. I've never turned it upside-down once. I'm not looking for a fine grind though. I'd say it's a medium-coarse grind.

It came with a gasket and I have left it. Hasn't bothered me more than noticing it's there due to visual observation when opening it. cleaned it once over a month ago, put 2oz~ thru since and I won't be cleaning for a while so take that for whatever. I'm just baked and rambling and tbh I just want someone else to get it who has other grinders, so they can make the comaparison and I don't gotta spend more cash

Nice pickup @Shit Snacks. Exactly the colour I would choose if I was buying now. Try grinding on a 45° or 90° angle first. What gasket are you talking about? The only gasket on mine is the ring on the top section. Everything else is coated metal bar the screen & crimped ring to hold it.

For anyone considering a SLX grinder I can state with absolute certainty that this is the best grinder I have used. Pretty sure me & @MoltenTiger were the first FC members to get one of the 2.0's & after well over a year of hard service my opinion of this grinder is higher than it has ever been. I could buy any grinder I want but see no reason to do so.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the info.

Stevenski, have you ever used a Gr8tr, and have an opinion on it?

The SLX creates a finer grind with drier material.
Boveda 62% humidi-packs in jars with bud speeds the curing process up a bunch, and dryer herb means more concentration of actives in the vapour.
Otherwise, upside-down grinding with the SLX is fine, I don't do it often but the few times I have it's worked pretty well (didn't seem to gunk it up at all).

My SLX, which I got Jan last year, didn't come with a gasket on the bottom chamber.
The advantage of this is a better air-tight fit once assembled and less rotations to open/close the grinder. There has been negligble wear & tear without the gasket, so I don't think it's important at all - apart from those two benefits, that I can think of anyway.

Does anyone else save their sugar leaves for grinding then sift for a whole bunch of kief? I can't stand the taste of leaves but I find that grinding them fine and using my space case as sifter gets me some okay-ish kief out of a pile of stuff I wouldn't have vaped.
Most people I know use them for edibles, but should I have the chance I'd probably be more interested in doing this! Not a big fan of edibles

Yeah, mine is showing minimal wear & tear after 15 months, and I'm as happy as ever with my purchase.
I bought a cheap Al grinder 8 months prior to the SLX, so the SLX has already seen the same value I got out of that product.
I believe the SLX 2.0 didn't exist when I bought that cheap grinder, and when my room-mate was looking for a grinder soon after, I discovered it.
His is now 22 months old, nearly all of his ceramic around the grinding section has come off (I keep telling him to claim warranty on it).
My unit has some ceramic missing from this area, but it's only a tiny amount comparably.
Earlier in the year I bought a couple of SLX for two people. The quality seems to be better yet again (ceramic adhesion, magnet strength, additional gasket), and they are both stoked with their grinders.

I've yet to see a convincing argument as to why a different option could even begin to tempt me away from the SLX, it really is that good of a product.
Of course there's a decent selection of similarly quality options, but that non-stick surface means daily use without ever cleaning it, plus super efficient kief collection. Those two features are pretty damn great

To all Canadians, would you recommend getting the gr8ter grinder since its made in Canada + it's the cheapest I've seen so far?

I think I will be purchasing the gr8ter vape grinder. I getting tired of my free orange volcano grinder i have been using for a while now

The GR8TR is my favourite grinder, just be aware that the vape edition has only 1 plate, and it is quite fine (finest i've seen personally) although cure can affect that tremendously. If only a fine grind is what you are looking for in your particular vapes, then it's very hard to beat IMO. No need to grind upside down like the SLX either, and no flaking coatings.

Where did you see that it is made in Canada?

I bought mine at ZoneUtopia on their 4/20 sale last year!

Anyways, I would still suggest the solid body for grind consistency versatility (both plates, you can't buy them separately) and easier ergonomics with the thicker lid and longer body.

Yeah mine had a gasket in the bottom section too, thank you for confirming it's not necessary. I guess it can be a spare if I ever need a new one for the top section.

@cybrguy & @od1 I wholeheartedly recommend the SLX but I need more time with it ofcourse. The GR8TR is pretty nice but eh, again need more time, the vape one has a finer plate than my solid body though? Maybe that's why the grind wasn't so impressive to me...

Also yeah I guess I should try drying herbs a little but don't really feel like dealing with that, packs or not. I also do like the fresh moist dense herbs, so tasty mmm, though they may not vape or grind quite as well. I haven't ground anymore loads yet so I will try to keep updating as I do to compare for people.

As of now though, it really does feel like the SLX is an overall winner, even though I've used Santa Cruz for a long while with great versatile results. But the SLX really is something special, more noticeable in person for sure
