Discontinued MistVape Touch

RUDE BOY

Space is the Place
It seemed to work nicely but if you overload it the blades broke free. And really sticky herb didn't grind that well.

I've always used it like I do the magic flight finishing grinder, I tear small pieces off a bud making sure there are no stems and my herbs are always bone dry. It's been just the perfect size since I started micro-dosing over the last year or so and easier on my hands than my larger grinders.

:peace:

That makes sense, I tried it with a whole bud and it ripped the blade out. With fresher sticky herb it isn't that great. Glad it is working for you. They are pretty!
@RUDE BOY you are right, it does work nice with small loads that you break up first.

very nice informative video,
i can finally get a sense of MVT usage.
it comes up pretty respected with the others!

however i still fear (once i'll have it) how NOT to cross over certain temps.
by your preference (around 9 seconds press), i don't know what does it mean regarding the temp you like to vape at or at least the area you think it's at (you said 185C average)..
i mean, when the coil glows and i stop pressing, is that the minimum heat required to get THC released?

i suspect it will be really hard to tell when i'm too early to release or too late.
yea so in that manual aspect it's quite a steep learning curve.

besides that, i really like the basic "raw" operation, simple to understand and even DIY fix.

ps - if it's THC you vape, i wonder how are able to still operate in the video ;)

great stuff @paytonpenn, thanks much
@rozroz I wonder about the ability @paytonpenn has to vape. My friend saw his video and said he got high watching!
As far as the temp on the Touch I have found that if I press for about 5 seconds, no coil glow, I get nice low temp hits. Another technique is to heat to a glow for a few seconds then wait 3 to 5 seconds before you draw. Both give good results and flavorful hits. As you push the temp higher you will find the vapor is noticeably hotter and if you monitor the load you will see it gets quite dark. If you stay with the lower temp method the abv is dark tan. I'll post some pics tonight.
Started work on the next batch. Have the frame blocks cut and ready to do some serious cutting.
@rozroz I do have a set up to measure the temp in the stem. I haven't done it with this model since it is so dependent on how long you hold the button. Maybe I can take some measurements with various hold times. If I have time I'll try tonight

well i guess i'll have to learn to feel it. it really depends on how low is the low in the usage method you mention, and again, what's the temp when the coil actually glows.
i wonder if there's some kind of a digital "button" thermometer that could be attached into the coil opening ;)

Yeah as I said no need for the coil to glow if you want lower temps, manual vapes you really have to get experience with to learn control with technique, if you need precise temps these vapes just aren't for you I'm afraid. I used to feel that way but manual vapes helped me realize how unnecessary exact temp control can be (though it is nice), however power control will be nice here some day, still manual but better. As it is now, you can't really measure temp bc your draw is a huge factor, for low temp no coil glow and hogh temp coil glow, your draw must adapt to avoid scorching or blank hits, the more you use it the better you get at sensing (for me it was super quick and easy bc of my experience with Milaana and this is slower)

thanks @Shit Snacks
now i feel more relaxed with the idea of manual control.
it's not that i'm a precise temp person,
it's just that i never want to go ABOVE 390F or so..
anything that keeps it up to this level whether it's how to inhale or amount of time
before glowing, i surly can handle quite easily.

Oh yeah, so don't worry, I am a low temp guy too, you can really sense from taste and get fantastic vapor to stay below 390ish. You'll learn it no problem, then it will be one the purest and quickest ways to get that great low temp vapor for you, may even be easier than Milaana in that regard (since that is faster /hotter), but like Milaana you can actually bring coil to glow, let off, and then still get nice tasty vapor from residual heat (but Mi heater can retain more)

can you maybe also tell me how much do you usually pack,
and how efficient (how many hits) it takes until you're done with it at these low temps?
i have the XMAX Pro V2 and i enjoy lightly tamped 1/3 of a bowl at level 2, 3 max.
that can last me up to 2-3 very short micro dosing sessions (3-4 hits) tops.
really interested to know the differences

I used to feel that way but manual vapes helped me realize how unnecessary exact temp control can be (though it is nice)

I disagree here. I really enjoy how digital conduction vapes can be almost surgical in their temperature regulation (ex: Ascent, FM5-Pro, etc) You can really extract fully a given temperature setting and vapor production stops, then when you increase the temperature the next level starts and you get vapor again.

I thought it was hard to perform with convection but I found that same experience when using the Flowermate SwiftPro. It's not as precise I think but you can really do the temp stepping and if you want low temps only that's what you'll get, until it's depleted.

I haven't tested the FF2 but it also has temperature regulation. FW4 has some kind too, although more approximate.

So while I agree that when using manual vapes you don't feel spoiled at all and it's very natural to temp step (although harder with Milaana than Zion), having a real temp regulation is still a plus. There's no "I spoiled the taste because I overshot for 1 second too much on the trigger" etc.

While I agree, I still stand by my statement, I don't find it contradictory ;) I do love temp stepping in Zion, and i dont care that it's based on power not temperature. GH is nice bc you get it all, ofcourse it has several other issues. But for a combustion transition, these type of vapes have been the best in my experience (like torch powered vapes), simple and effective

I don't know how to quantify it, less than Milaana since the bowl is small, just fill the little basket, can't be more than .1g and probably less here, I've tried a more full load as I posted previously too. It's as efficient as you want, on demand convection is a whole nother level than something like the xmax. Number of hits can be like 10 more or less depending on temps and herbs. Here you could take just one hit and be fine, it's all up to you, full control, unlike a session vape (and no constant cooking waste)

@KeroZen look at page 10 of this thread, a bit more than half way down. I post a video of the "ugliest kid on the block" demonstrating temp stability. It is impressive, the original MistVape could hold +/- 5 F easy. It was very good at this. But there were issues with the time it took to build and the battery pack was custom. I didn't think looks was one of it's problems but aesthetics is real personal.
Got a new batch of Touchs in the works, moving along pretty quick, I could start assembly this weekend.
I looked at the side button and there isn't enough room, lots of things would have to be changed for it to work and I don't think it is worth it.
Here is a freshly loaded stem
6GIEEp4.jpg

And after some low temp hits
f5XQ9fv.jpg

Then I stirred and went up a bit on temp, here's the abv
scRX1e4.jpg

The little bit on the left fell out after the stir.
@rozroz I weighed the load, between 0.08 and 0.12 g is possible (maybe less?). I loaded with the top of the herb flush with the end of the stem and that is max at 0.12 g. Then i took some out so it was maybe 2 mm below the end of the stem and that was 0.08 g.
Tried a video of the temperature measurement but it didn't turn out well. I need to plan that one and think about how to demonstrate it. I'll try to work on it.

The button placement is not a true issue for me now, I managed to use it with my left hand easily.

There is definitly a learning curve but if I can compare it's easier to get satisfying taste&clouds with the Touch than with the FlashVape or the Thermovape line.

It's a bit less "on-demand" than the Milaana does cause the longer heating time ( 2 times longer) but this is helps to get low temp hits.
In another hand I think it is more efficient than the Milaana regardless to the abv color and the number of stirs and I don't get the screen quickly clogged with resin like the Mi, with the Touch there is no "dead spot" where the resin can sit.

Can I say Dave is the King of micro-dosing devices? Both the Touch and the original are perfect for very small doses, very comparable to a log vape. If you want to conserve your stash this is the way to follow!

Keep the things running my friends.

Yes I totally agree with that point. When you smoke a fatty you don't think twice: you light it once and you hit it. There's no weird notion of distilling the thing in separate phases to get only some of the effects.

And to be really honest, while I enjoy temp stepping, in practice I never stop before I reach the higher levels, as I'm after the full-on experience. So in a way, it's for me just a mean to make my sessions last longer when I could extract it all at once like with the Mi (temperature rises over the session time but there are no discrete levels)

I didn't think looks was one of it's problems but aesthetics is real personal.

Hey pal, I can feel some resentment about my remark on the very first pages of your thread here! If you read it again though, you'll notice that I was talking more about the picture quality itself than the device. But I clearly find the Touch prettier than the previous incarnation(s).

Hey @mistvaporizer ,
Very helpful info and pictures.
A video with temps visualization will be excellent to have a mental visual picture of different options. Hope you'll be able to do that.
if you can manage to stack up the phone video camera and just do a quick temp check it seems enough.
Interesting to see where the herbs get convected, which is mostly at the center of the bowl? So that's where the hot air actually pass through?
This means that some stirring should be done quite often between 2-3 hits i guess.

@PPN
Great to hear this is an efficient device for micro dosing! Exactly what i need. I hate it when herbs aimlessly conducted throughout a session.
Once i'll get the handle of the manual low temp control i'll be pretty satisfied i guess.

Yeah I love temp stepping sessions, what's fun with manual vapes is they can have a natural temp step (like the RBT heaters) as you go.

Just curious if you may be using your Milaana screen non basket style? Referring to the dead spot you mentioned, bc with basket style (the new default stock style) there is no issue there.

But yes 14mm with Mist means smaller bowls, I've done heaping loads and tiny ones, both are extremely efficient with tiny amounts overall.

It is also easier to do consistent low temps here thanks to the sloeer heat up actually, and the power is still there relatively prompt, another unique aspect of this great vape!

Yeah I mentioned stirring needs earlier from my own tests, it's not that hard to stay low temp when you draw right away as you press it with no preheat, and like that you can get 3-5 hits before needing to stir. I do often stir every hit, or every other hit, mostly for taste, so it's really up to you and your technique. Like Milaana I'd say you can get away without stirring, stir often, or stir just once (twice or thrice) a bowl depending on your useage. But yeah only hot air passing through the herb in the stem in the basket screen, based on your draw and trigger. All there is to it, full powered pure convection on demand, puts session conduction to shame in almost every way in my experience!

No the buttons are all like the beta. Seems @PPN said it works with either hand and I use mine both ways so I didn't want to complicate things. If there is a need it could be done.

Yeah I said that too, but'd still prefer a righty version bc i can't really use my left that well out and about. No worries I just won't use it in those situations, ergonomically it works in a variety of positions where superstealth is not needed
