Question: Who covers their volcano when not in use to keep dust out? I always figured that turning the volcano air pump on for a minute before each session would probably clean out any dust that would have end up inside the unit (and possibly be pumped into the bag and inhaled).
Have you been tempted to search inside for debris/dust accumulations, just to know if that's possible?...
Anyone know of a cover for the volcano? Wantto keep dust out of it while its out on my bar.
hello everyone I was wondering if any of you out there do anything to prevent dust from getting into your volcano
*I use a cap from a can of spray paint on top of my Volcano when not in use*

Have been questioning the temperature accuracy of my cano ever since getting the crafty.
The ABV on my old classic (6-7 year) doesn't get dark at all, even at 9. Not even close to the craft at 180F.
Out of curiosity I placed a candy thermometer at the top of the easy valve filling chamber; ran it full temp, fan on for several minutes and it only got to 275F. Turned it down to 7 and was 250F.
I asked Storz & Bickel and they said they wouldn't be able to tell without seeing it.
I was expecting a pretty good drop in temp from the filling chamber, but 275F. right at the valve opening seems very low to me.
Was this a good enough test to verify that it needs to be sent in for service (~$100).?
Or is that a reasonable temp?

I believe you would need to use a temperature sensor or probe that you could put in the bowl to give reasonable temperature readings. I do not believe a candy thermometer will provide an accurate temperature picture. :2c:
Thanks, i was thinking this too. But an almost 150F. Drop seems like a lot?

Take the light-colored spent stuff out of your volcano,
and see what more you can get out of it with your crafty
This was actually my next test and both the crafty and pax pulled several more hits. But not vice versa, obviously.
Are others getting dark ABV from their volcano like the crafty?

I believe the crafty ABV gets darker due to the much more prominent conduction effect of the metal ring in the bowl.

That's interesting. I'm surprised the crafty extracted further. What temp were you using the volcano at? I vape on my volcano at 8.5 and the ABV is way lighter than my crafty's which I vape at max temp.

I guess I could try it.

I run my volcano classic at 4.5-5. My abv has a lot left, I could run the volcano a lot higher and have but I don't like the vapor at high temps, but it will get way hot.

For spent abv my mighty does a great job, and if I used higher temps my volcano would as well.

The Mighty abv is always darker, doublevanos explained why. I had a working volcano and used it on 225'C. I use the mighty at 200'C now.
Even at 180'C the Mighty produces darker ABV than the volcano on max. I know ABV color doesn't mean grade of extraction. In this case I'm quite unsure... But I can say I sold the volcano. I miss him a little, but the mighty will help me to get over this "lost" in the future very easy!

There way definitely a lingering, end of the bowl high on it. But too much of a hassle IMO.

Well I don't think I'll waste the time/money for the service, sounds like my unit is working fine.
The Crafty has ruined the Volcano for me! (posts craigslist ad)
Don't think I'm going to miss it, especially since I just upgraded to a Mighty :)

I'm interested in this post. I have to run my classic on 9 or I won't get visible vapor so it's always on that setting. On 9 my ABV is never dark however I get reasonably thick & very satisfying vapor, but me being me I'd probably try it on a hotter setting if I could.
At the time I was curious so I did some searching & as far as I could work out the 9 setting was the premium temp for health vs extraction. Something about medicinal users, lots of studies & it was all very scientific so I was surprised to read that S&B portables seem to get hotter.

At nine on the dial my volcano would make milk, serious. Not that I could inhale it, but mine heats up pretty hot. Does it still blow up a bag ok? Your covering the screen with herb, right?

I think if it was me, I'd take it apart, it might just need cleaning or have a plugged air path or something simple.

I agree here. I almost never run the Cano at 9, the vapor is so thick I can chew it. Even with really crappy herb you should still be getting thick vapor at anything above 7.5 IMO.

I used to regularly do three bags: 6, 7.5, 9. Unfortunately 9 irritates my throat too much so I just do 6 and 7.5, or just 7.5 twice (second bag is noticeably thinner in vapor density), then cook with the ABV

I have to correct myself. Normally I use to tamp down the load quite hard when using the mighty. This results in very dark, nearly black ABV because of more conduction and heat transmission. But it seems to clog the metal ring faster. I tried a very fluffy fill the last 4 bowls in the mighty and the ABV has a much lighter color. Nearly like the Volcano ABV.

The volcano valve is not cooking the load when not filling a bag and I never tamped a bowl in the volcano, too... Just a light overfill. Perhaps it's just a "user error" on the mighty which results in darker ABV colors and extraction grades?

I'm tempted to try this. Anyone got a good link for instructions? Not finding any and not sure what to look for. Everything else is clean.
Will snap a pic if I open it. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the input everyone. Mine has run like that for the last 2 years straight out of the box. I was just trying to work out if it ran a little cool. It's kinda difficult when everyone has a different preference. I use the Volcano when I want some thick ass vapor. It always delivers but only on 9.
Level 9 is for ABV and for residue you scraped of the inside of the valve and other parts of the filling chamber

Where did you get this information?

THE KISS FREAK

Rock & Roll All Night & Party Every Day!
Good morning all. I'm newer to vaping ( 8 months ). But a 30yr vet. After trying a friend's Cano, I purchased a MiniVap. Which I'm Absolutely in Love with! Had it since September. Problem being my Wife has no lung capacity and can't seem to Draw long enough to produce any vapor. So I'm figuring that the Volcano would be perfect for her, and I could use it as well for home. I bought MiniVap cause the ability to use it portable was the most important factor for me. I'm an MMJ Patient & need to medicate throughout the day. Plus with the Adapter, I can use it plugged in.

Anyways, I've noticed that all Storz and Bickel products are now available for cheaper prices & thought that now would be a perfect time to buy. I'm looking at getting a Digital Volcano Easy Valve. Solid Valve starter set, Easy Valve Wear & Tear Set and extra box of Bag Material. Anyone think I'll need anything else? Oh yeah I forgot the Free nice Volcano Duffel Bag from Vapor Nation.:)

Good thinking IMO.

So here's a vid of the insides of the volcano.
Seems easy enough. Might as well give it a little check-up.

More interestingly, here's a well done vid of the different stages the trichomes go through during each draw from different vapes:

I would be very curious to see how my Volcano's ABV would look, and also how the Mighty/Craft would compare. Will be busting out the kids microscope asap.

Imho the way to go is start superlow (3,9-4,1 on Volcano Classic), get the THC out of the weed and keep the CBD/CBN filled ABV for later in the evening or when you actually need some medical relieve.

Also my spent ABV looks way darker than in his microscope pics, it is so incredible how much vape you can get out of ABV, I guess people who dont use it for cooking just throw it away, but hey, if you got too much money...

While thc can be turned into cbn, with enough heat, it's my understanding that cbd's are either there or not. We've made cannacaps from abv from my volcano that are great for sleep. I suspect they have a bunch of cbn's in them due to their effects.
