Hi Hexi, my point was not so much to introduce what I thought was new information, rather to highlight the issues that I have with this unit. If VXL is looking at the community feedback, then I'd like them to see my feedback as well. I'm not sure if others reporting and discussing the issues should preclude me from doing the same.
.
let me clarify - I recognize that both negative and positive feedback are valuable to the discussion and to VXL,
. . . I think if I was an international order I'd be pretty pissed to find out I could have just waited until their store was open...
The international orders are still primarily from the IGG campaign. Waiting would have missed the special pricing and extras that came with those contributions.

@CentiZen and any other Canadian EVO owner:
Did any of you have to pay $40 to Canada Post beofre they let you have your EVO?
This was something i did not expect...
Anyway the EVO and the awesome looking tube are at home!
The EVO box was open so not sure if mine was opened at the border for a security check.
Will know more when i open the box tonight.
Hey, at least they didn't hold it for long. Stuff coming in to the US can get held by our customs for a loooong time. Got my Mobius Nano Matrrx from an FCer in Australia. US Customs held on to it for NINE MONTHS before delivering it to me.They got me for the same.... And mine had a notice that it was opened by customs.

Canada Post did this to you guys? Geeez. I thought only FedEx and UPS (and DHL probably) did the ransom thing. That sucks! Is it taxes because of the items value?
38.95 in customs charges for me, which I was not happy about at all. My box had been opened as well.
"Import Duty Charges" are all the context I've been able to get. Canada Post usually does not do this, I was kind of surprised.

I'm not Canadian, but my sister lives in VC, and I work in a law firm that does work in Canada pretty regularly. These rates DO vary, under Canadian law, depending on whether entering Canada through commercial private shipping vs public post. However, they also can vary pretty dramatically depending on what province you live in. Many provinces have an additional provincial tax for imported items as well, but some don't (I know BC does but Nunavut does not).
It probably doesn't help that VXL is a much more recognizable name now, specifically as a piece of expensive consumer electronics, even if folks don't necessarily know what its for. I was shocked to overhear coworkers - asshole lawyers, actually - talking about the EVO. Not for use, of course - they are asshole lawyers - but as an example of 'new business opportunities in the changing legal environment'.
If this happened to enough people in a manner inconsistent with but not necessarily in violation of the law, in the US (until relatively recently) you and other affected people could easily form a class action and sue. Don't know if you have class or mass actions in Canada - not my area. The EU mostly doesn't.This is the case, but in Canada we have a huge problem with companies like FedEx and UPS taking advantage of the rather ambiguous laws and customer ignorance to impose arbitrary fees on people importing packages, in addition to the normal costs levied on imports. Coupled with the fact that companies often pay the taxes as part of shipping, getting a bill at the post box is something that usually raises a red flag for us.
After doing more research I've found that the costs I paid were the following:
Considering that I've received vaporizers values higher than that through Canada Post without getting similar charges, I am hoping this is a one time thing.
- 28.50 Harmonized Sales Taxes (on 219.00$ declared value)
- 9.95 Handling Charges

Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on that and related cases. I can actually do it on the clock .There's a couple large Canadian firms that have initiated class action against FedEx or UPS for this behavior. This is the one that I've been following closest. I have faith that sooner or later it will make it through the courts but it's frustrating in the meantime.
Though in this case, these are brokerage fees in question and not the legitimate fees I had to pay to get my Cloud EVO. I was not charged any brokerage on this.
