I'd never want to take away from the *art*. I had some thoughts, like maybe on the back plate, which is like a separate entity. We'll see where it leads, and I can always return it if it doesn't work out. It is a small laser engraver, not for really anything large.

In the meantime I just tested my first unit, got a cold ohm reading a hair higher, but this is the unit with the shorter coil wires. More testing needed, but this unit's not going anywhere for now. I'm actually doing a stem or two on it and all seems well. I'm also running a basic cherry unit through case thermals now, and I haven't tested ohms on that unit yet, but I bet it comes in at slightly under .300. I expect all units to test this way. If case thermals remain consistent with previous testing, I can eventually predict results, and won't have to test each unit, which takes a couple of hours.

Hey All...
The logo, if used, will be quite small, unassuming, outta the way, maybe on accessories only. The laser engraver is a tool that may, or may not, have a place here. Nothing big happening.

The feet are up today. I'm just playing with software. I'll be heading over to wife's family later today. Nice to not have a tool in my hands all day. Hands, wrists, always need a break. Tomorrow will be back at it.

Damn, I zoned on the time limit - my apologies.

I am finding consistency in my testing, which is my favorite thing, because it leads to predictability. On that note, testing is just about all done. Monday is our target date for shipping.

Consistency, consistency, consistency... The name of the game.

After this last round of testing, I was able to program each unit with the correct case thermals, case resistance, cold ohms, and TCR values, specifically for the Elite (and dry herb vaping). What that means is the board will interact with the body of the unit and coil very accurately, specifically for dry herbs. It's all about good information. In addition, the unit is programmed with 8 profiles, but the two workhorses are Temp Control and Booster (watts with preheat), and all you really need. The DNA 75c seems to pair extremely well with the Elite and dry herb.

Today was a work day in Manhattan (2 days per week usually), and hot, hot hot. I get to talk with tourists from around the world, actually kinda fascinating. Today was mostly Americans, but a very cool group from Scotland. with that awesome Scottish accent. Good day.

Got home to my laser engraver. It's tiny, but plenty big for anything I'll use it for. I'm looking forward to playing with it, but this batch will go un-engraved.

Testing, programming done. Tomorrow I just need to look at each unit one last time, buff, and pack up. I'll be at the post office Monday morning.

Got package from ATI, replacing the 2 defective DNA 75c's. Not bad, 2 outta 50 or so. Nice that I can test the shit out of them at each step of the build process, and before it ever leaves my shop. The testing was surprisingly simple. The uploading and adjusting of settings also gives the entire unit a chance to go through all the paces, not just software. Buttons are pressed, coil gets hot, and yes, I take an actual pull or two from every unit (with my special test tube). Much of the testing can be done on escribe, without having to hit on the unit. I've learned to identify want numbers correlate to a good performance, but as the final check, I have to make sure the numbers hold up. Once they do, it gets recorded and uploaded.

Happy Sunday

Buffing done, stir tools built, nothing left but labels and packing up. I hit each unit with a drop of heat and buffed by hand and by machine. They definitely look sweet. I had to make some adjustments on the flipped button unit, and testing now. Resistance on this unit is dead average at .30 but the TCR needs to be little higher to deliver the wattage necessary. I like to be able to access 28 to 30 watts to hit target TC numbers. I think this represents actual product temps about as close as possible. Changing TCR won't actually change the temp, just what the chip reads it at. Once cold ohms are discovered, the TCR is adjusted to the cold ohm value, where the machine will pull about 20 to 30 watts (in a fluctuating pattern) to deliver 400 degrees (my test temp). The user can of course raise or lower temp to taste.

Button up top seems cool as a change up. It might be a bit easier to navigate through the small buttons with your thumb. I have a feeling I'll be using this with the unit flipped as well (tube side near mouth), and with my thumb on the trigger. Using the index finger on the trigger might be awkward, but the middle finger seems to land just right if you held the traditional way. This, of course, is only a first impression.

About to go down to the shop and pack up. Not much else going on. Two ex-DD's have sold and need a lil' bit of TLC before I let them go, but that's tomorrow's job. I do have one more cosmetic defect to add to that $200 sale. It's another pretty Walnut unit with a slight breakthrough into the wall of the taper (screw tip, which is sanded perfectly smooth). This is another steal at $200. This is an unused unit.

I also have one unit that I need to take apart and do some investigation. Cold ohms are higher than any other unit, and I need to know why even though I can adjust settings to make the end result the same. *Mistakes* like this are where I can really learn about why things are happening, a much better approach to an ever improving product.

I may also play with my laser engraver today. At this point I'm curious what it can do, or how complicated it is to use. I hope I don't get label crazy. I can add numbers, directions, images, to just about anything. It's a very small device, but I think it's pretty portable and can be laid on top of just about anything much larger (guitar, table top, vape station).

I'm excited a dozen Elites have flown the coupe. I have 3 more slated for tomorrow. Was waiting on some batteries (arrived last night). I'm looking forward to hear what this batch has to say, especially Sneaky Pete. He got what I consider my *signature* Cherry Elite. As awesome as the Elite is, you never know what somebody's take is on things, but I'm confident that the Elite can hold its own in just about any company - especially for the on demand convection lovers. Programming this last batch really gave me confidence in the consistency of the Elite.

I had that one unit with a higher cold ohms than any other Elite so far. Normally, I'll get from .28 to .33, and this is what I've learned is an acceptable range, where I can dial in good results. I had one unit that was at .40, worked well, but I and had to disassemble to find out why. Connections looked good, everything solid on the inside. Couldn't be a short, because shorts lower resistance dramatically. I changed the coil, and bingo, back down to .32, and with a quick programming, stellar performance. Hard to tell what was off about this coil. I still have it and will install it in another test set up to see if I can tell what's going on. It's possible I didn't solder one wire / butt connector well enough. I'm going to have to sacrifice a good unit to get a look at the used coil, put this coil in it, and see if the higher resistance holds up - I think it will. After changing the coil and getting normal resistance, I know it wasn't anything to do with the board or box.

Time to relax with a bowl or two...

Actually 4 mailings today, 3 Elites and some *parts* that were kind of left out. I'm quite the builder, but I suck at packing up. One Elite had the battery floor left out (naked), and I apologize for that. It's the very last thing to get installed (in case I have to take apart, I have screw access). I've already sent the customer a couple of replacement floor shims, and if there's any trouble installing, I'll install (and pay the shipping both ways). The battery compartment floor is totally cosmetic, as there is more bare metal exposed at the connectors and terminals (which need to remain exposed) than in the floor groove, even if the wires were uninsulated (in the Elite both battery wires are insulated).

The other 3 mailings were two customers who've fallen through many cracks for various reasons, and one international buyer of my latest cherry DD. That very last walnut unit I just shipped was very sweet. I also apologize, but I'm in a minor basket screen shortage. Some of you did not get spare screens. If you need them, please remind me and when I stock up I'll send to you.

I'm tired. I can finally exhale. I appreciate all of your patience with my building / shipping. We all know I'm better at building than anything else, but I do my absolute best at customer service. Please try and enjoy your Elites!

Remind me @MothChewMoth , what Elite did you get? Are you a Koa guy or a Maple or Waple guy? Thing is, all units were an easy programming (now that I've learned how to let the software do most of the work except the very final hit or two).

I’m the one with the missing battery floor....just a minor annoyance. Bottom line, this thing rocks! I already have a Walnut that I got off of the FC classifieds. Now a Cherry...truly a functional gem of a vape. They have quickly become my go-to vapes for home use.

@Alan knew this was a winner! Yes @P.A.M. , we need all the threads possible, on every forum possible. I'm ready to build, build, build. The more I build, the better the Elite gets. I've mentioned this before, but when you add up the dozens of minor tweaks... well, you're looking at the result.

An interesting observation.
I'm a woodworker with good woodworking skills, and I had the experience of building the Classic for about a year before starting on the Elite. At first the challenge with the Elite was more functional, getting it to work well. But little by little, wiring, connections, coil, and all internals were refined, improved. Function soared. It became more about tweaking the structure and cosmetics, as the electronics got nailed down. Of course there is an overlap.

The heat up time with this coil and chip combo is so quick it's unreal.
