Lots can be done in the tube!!!
@nonbeliever
Nice idea with the stepped ID's. I like the narrowing effect of the glass lined tubes. I've been thinking about narrowing the ID to do away with the need for glass, never thought about a baffle. What is the depth of the 8 mm hole? How exactly did you create that baffle? Really excited to try this out.

I had @Alan make me two roasting tubes... 1 - 2 1/2” and 1 - 3”.

He tapered the mouthpiece end to address the 8mm step. Here are the two 8mm and one of the original tubes I got with my classic.

1zejok.jpg

For the bowl end, the very edge is a 5mm deep x 14mm step. The 12mm step is 25mm deep. There is a beveled transition between the 12 mm and 8mm step. The 8mm hole extends the rest of the mouthpiece length. Here is a drawing:

28ic3rl.jpg

For the baffles, I now have two.

One is the “star shape” which I made by folding a piece of 62mm x 15mm SS foil like an accordion, then unfolding it into a star shape (think a paper thanksgiving decoration that lies flat, and then becomes 3D when you unfold it). I then bent one end of each fin to give me some deflection of the airflow and make it circulate.

macuas.jpg

m1wgo.jpg

I also now sliced up a same size piece of Foil to give me “slivers” connected at both ends, which I then balled up and pushed into the 12mm step. Both of them are working, we’ll see how they work over the next week or two.

It might also be interesting to make the 12 mm step even deeper (30 or so mm) and load it with a few 10 mm or odd shaped glass beads - I’m looking to see if I can find some I can use in the 25 mm step to test. I think anything smaller will either block the air path or get sucked up when taking a hit.

If you haven’t already tried, compressing it in a .zip file or other similar format might get it through the filter your host has set up.

Most if not all common computer operating systems come with software to at least zip and unzip things so it shouldn’t be hard for you or users.

The files is only 109 kb so don't really think zipping it is needed.

If you every need to reinstall escribe does have a backup feature. Plus I think Mike has made default setting to reinstall the software that elite came with?

I haven't needed to use escribe to make adjustments with the current software Mike's using. People who don't want to mess with escribe should be happy. Learning using escribe is unneeded since most function a average user needs can now be performed right on the Elite.

The theme of Elite is based off of Franks theme with a few changes for the Elite. These picture are close enough to give you a basic overview of the info and settings available on the Elite.

One change over franks to note. Main screen interface is a setting you may want to change. I prefer it to show puff. Instead of main screen displaying the volts and amps it show puff time and peak temperature. Feel that info more useful than the default interface.

Long battery life is nice. Another reason to be excited.

I average around 65 15 second puffs with the stock battery. If battery in charged inside elite it seems to get 5-10% more puffs. Still trying figure out why this is.

The charger used by chip is safe to charge battery inside of the Elite. Nice feature since it's easy plug it into usb outlet when away from a battery charger.

Having the option to charge by USB comes in handy when you need it. But for the average to heavy user it not really practical to charge full-time thru USB. A light user or for someone who hasn't picked up a external charger yet, it's a good option to have this available.

@madhockeydad your unit is online for testing. I'm about to run case thermal analyzer on it, upload the Elite file, and give it a thorough test. So far nine units have passed testing with flying colors, I'm sure your Maple will be the same. My cold ohms are ranging from about .29 to .31. TCR's are bit higher than the original testing to deliver the heat / power necessary. No frustration with testing, good sign! Hardest thing about testing is draining batteries down to under 50%, which is required for the case thermal testing. Sometimes than can take more than a few bowls on the Elite. Battery started at 87%, I've down three bowls and it's still hovering at above 50%. Nice problem to have, too much power.

It’s great to hear the details of testing. I’m glad that you have gotten this down. If you can do 10 in a row and they all measure nearly the same that’s great. That helps you to scale out the production.

Once I give it a try I’ll post my thoughts and comments. Take care.

Of course zipping isn’t needed for space savings here, but he said that the software on the server hosting his website wouldn’t let him upload that specific file type, and unless it unzips things to find out what’s in them uploading a .zip file should get around that problem since just about everything will let you upload a .zip.

Alternatively there are tons of other places to upload files that he could just link to such as Google Drive or DropBox, but if he wanted it on the same server as his website I think zipping the file might be his best bet.

I followed why you were suggesting the zip file @VaporWare , I guess @HerbieVonVapster just missed the bus on that one  too busy playing with his DNA files probably . Just poking fun here guys. Meanwhile @nonbeliever comes out of the shadows with baffling baffles, bet you @Slickwilly is  , wood be doing so souavely of course . @madhockeydad orobabky as upset as I am the Leafs didn't make it past first round yet patiently waiting for his Bud . Go Raptors ! @Easywider , come up north/northeastern ont. at times ? It be cool to roast a bowl with a fellow Elistist!

Hey. I get it. It’s hard to be patient when we are waiting for this cool and beautiful device!!! It’s damn hard. I keep looking at the pictures and the anticipation grows!! I can’t wait and I’ll be happy to share pictures and impressions.

Hopefully the adage good things come to those who wait is true!!

Things i like about littlebud elite.

Craftmanship.
No glass or adhesive.
All wood 18mm female.

Things i dont like.

The size.
The price

When you can get everything in a smaller, cheaper package i dont really get it.

I will not comment about performance as i dont know if mine worked properly.

Thats all i have to say about that.

Patience is a virtue. Every time my mom said that to me, I cringed. I have naturally have zero patience, and can you blame me? I can order a can of beans on Amazon and have it here tomorrow - literally.

Lil' Bud, both the Classic and Elite are totally handcrafted by me. This is not an item that gets shipped today, but it will last a lifetime.

No short cuts are taken in the build process. All glass and glue is non existent in the purest of pure wood / stainless steel air paths. That might not mean much to some, but it makes all the difference in taste, quality, performance, dependability, and longevity. This was no small feat to accomplish. Thanks to @Alan 's design genius it was possible.

I personally hand build every Elite, and stand behind each one, no matter what. From the formation of the stainless steel mesh coil that will last a lifetime (what coil can say that?) to the fine woodworking joinery techniques that go into forming the body (we don't just glue shit together), to the marriage of the technologically advanced DNA75c, to the superior connectivity of our electrical circuit. Sure, you can buy a mod box from China for $50, but be aware that the high quality DNA75c board costs $55 alone, while the custom buttons, tubes, are another $50. All told, it costs about $140 to build an Elite. I could use glass tubes and plastic buttons for a fraction of the cost, but that's not very *elite*, and would erode the experience. Right now I've brought the pricing down as low as is feasible for me to keep building, although there will be occasional small sales on special units.

Another wise old saying from Mom (who was born on 4/20): To each is own...

@Stoned Llama I'd love to here feedback on hash usage in the Elite. I haven't tried it. I'd think mixing with weed would work. Maybe somebody has already tried it. Love to hear about it.

Are we talking about a Canadian Elite meet? Very nice. That makes me think we should organize a North East get together!

I’m curious why you are experimenting with this? Is the vapor too hot or is the airflow too unrestricted? This is an interesting idea for restricting the air path.

I for one have both the patience and willingness to invest in the Elite. I prefer things that come from inventiveness and take time and care to make. I fully agree that is a personal aesthetic. I sure hope there is a steady stream of happy customers.

My first Vapes were more common ‘market’ devices. They worked fine but for me they lacked soul. I’d rather use a hand made piece with real wood. For me the experience is so much nicer. Of course this is all personal opinion. As a wise person above said, “To each his own....”

Rock on and I can wait to use the Elite when it’s ready.

This is what I love about FC, the many minds coming together to advance our *process*. It reminds me of the old firehouse *kitchen table*. It's the place where ideas are shared and all problems solved - utter resourcefulness arising out of dire need. The Elite is the result of just that. From the advanced programming to the baffled tubes, it just keeps improving. This is the process of endless tweaking unfolding. I love the glass beads idea, gonna try both that and the baffle with a glass lining.

I'm done testing Elites. All info is uploaded and recorded. The units now need a battery compartment floor, on which I write the batch # for future reference. In addition, they will get final *re*sanded with some 400 / 600 grit paper, another touch up of beeswax and heat, as well as a final buffing wheel session. They are looking really purdy. I'll take some quality pics of this mega batch before packing up.

Hey how hot can this get? Could it get to combustion? I want to smoke hash in windy conditions and I don't want to order a 300$ equipment for it not to work properly.

Also when in June are you expecting to star shipping the Elites ordered next week?

Well it is a Dry Herb Vape for starters. Do you plan on mixing your hash with weed like in a joint ? If not then maybe search for concentrates vaporizer.

Trust me , the $300 Elite works excellent and properly for its intended use .

Send me a chunk of hash . I'll gladly test it out for you. Not much more then 20 Elites or so in circulation, not every posts on forums. Sorry none of us have been able to answer you more precisely for the time being , the Elite is a regulated Vape , hence you could dial temp as low or high as want , shouldn't combust unless you you want it to

vape on!

Only glass without water :)

And much via different j-hooks, as I run completely out of weed once more and got only hash left. Fixed with a clip and a leather band for one-hand vaping.

May I ask which adapter you guys are using?
I've the Milaana 2 water adapter from vapefiend, its 19mm. I'm feeling as it could be some longer. Measured nearly 29mm down to the screen of the Elite, so there would be lot's of space. All is working great with this short adapter, but I need quite some temperature (from 195° up to 215°), Punch is set to 9 and a bowl costs between 20% and 25% power. I've ordered some cheap 19mm male-male adapters from dh, these should fit, at least with some adjustment. Hoping so save some energy with em.

I'm quite in a hurry these days and have not the time for a longer answer right now, so I quoted myself :)

As soon as I can get my hands on any bud, I'll do further researches about weed-hash mixtures, but I think it should work great too.

Yeah I plan to always mix it with weed.

If it can get to combustion I am sure it will vape the hash properly.

I actually wouldn't mind sending a bit of hash if it was domestic but shipping drugs over the Atlantic seems a bit too much for me.
If someone presses the kief they have on the grinder and try vaping it I would be gratefull and well doesn't seem like that much of a chore....

Seems like @Alex3oe will be able to help you @Stoned Llama he replied a minute before your last if missed it. Yeah, I use a 2 piece grinder by habit more then preference . I was in the french alps a couple of months early y2k, had a nice chunk of what they called "du shit" I think... was kind of like hash or real hash compared to North American "hash" I guess. Not sure what it was but miss it . Lol .

It's possible. Combusted once during my first tries through glass, even with the "too short" water adapter I'm using.

I’m loving the 8mm draw roasting tubes. In fact, I prefer the 3 inch length over the 2 1/2”. The length is a little more comfortable I find.

@madhockeydad, I originally ordered the 8mm draw tubes because I prefer more resistance than I was getting from the wide open draw of the stock 12mm, or even the 10mm with the glass tubes, not to mention broke the glass tubes too often. I originally ordered these for my Classic. I decided to play with baffling concepts really to see if I could impact the circulation within the tubes as I was hotspotting too much - I have a pretty heavy draw, and did that as an afterthought which @Alan was able and happy to accommodate.

I’ve been going back and forth between the Elite and Classic for my “testing”. I think the baffling impact is more pronounced using the Classic, most likely because the Classic is raw heat, versus the regulated heat of the Elite. I actually redid the stainless foil ‘ball’... cutting about 1/2” off of the original 65mm foil strip length, slicing and creating an all new ball. After trying for a while, the foil sliver ball that I initially made actually added a little bit too much additional resistance. Making a new one using a slightly smaller piece of fall has made it about right. The baffles seem to be helping, I haven’t been hotspotting at all. I do believe they are shifting the circulation patterns some - Both baffle styles seem to help... the star shaped one has less resistance impact than the ball. It may also be that the foil absorbs a little bit of heat... with the Elite, I’ve had some pretty big hits that were remarkably cool (though I am sure that is at least partially due to the computer regulation and temperature control.)

Also, @Bravesst your latest profile/programs for the Elite rock on my earlier Elite. I’ve been using them unchanged, and they are a big improvement. Thanks again for sharing them!

And the community continues to push the envelope!

Meanwhile, back at Vapwood HQ, I'm barreling through my final assembly of some Classics (Elites done and being final tested) so I can *buff the batch*. I ran into one small hold up, as I need to form a few coils to finish up. No matter, that should all happen today. Once buffed, I'll begin to pack and ship. I will go to the post office in 2 trips, mostly so the clerks don't start to hate me - I split up the international orders. Each international can take up to 10 to 15 minutes of processing. I can shut down the post office with six of those. I must have at least 6 or 7 in this batch.

@Stoned Llama As far as June shipping, any orders that don't make the May cut off will ship at the end of June.

@nonbeliever , your inserts are kinda like "a-maze" ones, for capsule stems I got from lamart.ch

Hoping steel inserts help cool vapor with turbulence, forcing many molecule interactions with tube walls. Also hoping 33 holes in capsule diffuse incoming air for a no-stir result. Also hoping my Elite is in this batch

Anticipating the glass tube to get warm, so Plenty mouthpiece will insulate heat from my girly-man lips

Sorry, @Bravesst , I know this is heresy to your wood vision. I'm mucking things up with aluminum, steel and plastic

This is exactly what I thought, I went to grab mine then remembered "I break glass inserts"

I just went to the mail box to find a beautiful elite tray sitting all cozy inside. This thing is so sexy, it was a custom project from timberheaddesigns. If I knew good words I would use many of them to describe just how awesome this turned out. Instead I will post some pics, even the pics don't do it justice.
