The Tempest by Mad Heaters & Phatpiggie

I originally did not expect them to need much cleaning because they are the heat source and you are generally not pulling vapor through them. However, I found that enough vapor rises into the ball chamber, especially when using the Tempest head on glass, that the balls do get dirty enough to need occasional cleaning. In my case, I clean them by taking them out and torching them about once every month or two depending on how much use they are getting.

With all the constant heat did they really actually need cleaned???
PSX-20240219-091233.jpg

They can do, to begin with, I would just put the tempest down into the wand, doing this every time led to the balls getting quite clogged, I guess small particles find their way down, and with a little colour from the vapor, they eventually look like that after 4-6 weeks.
I usually sit the wand on its side now, or hold it above, I've never had the balls go that colour again. I think I've only cleaned them 2/3 times since that photo and they're usually an off white colour, rather than brown.
I felt the balls weren't holding heat as long when they were dirty like that, but in all honesty, it might have made no difference at all.
However, if it looks that dirty, it's worth cleaning in my opinion.

I'm gonna need some info about what I'm seeing here sir, I really like it!

EDIT: About the cleaning balls topic:

With ceramic ones. I torch them inside a lil pan I bought and only use for that. Takes less than a minute and leaves them like new. Please DON'T DO THIS WITH BORO or RUBY tho, may crack em.

For those, my best option is DC cleaner, lil Tupperware, or whatever plastic container and microwave until DC is hot. Shake em around, and wipe em. Clean as new and you can use same DC for years.

I have dc clear but never really got on with it.
Had some glass bubblers it didn't even touch.
Sugar soap is an alternative cleaner I use, the photo I put up above, I put the balls in a tube with some sugar soap, few seconds of shaking, it's awesome stuff.
Just make sure it well rinsed off.

The last week or so. I’ve been going half bowl (sic), depth (leaning towards convection) and running the wand at 500f til TO
Air ports wide open Natively.
All the tips about draw speed has really helped with 1 very flavorful hit followed by 2 massive rips ending with a nice toasty wispier hit.
Can’t wait to go back try the zirc again!

Revolve gen 2, just wanted the full tempest experience with the heat shield. thankfully got a factory second right after i posted this.
Nice one. The full titanium radiator and shield are really nice to use.
I use my revolves with 12mm glass sleeve too, does get pretty warm, but it's manageable for me.
Enjoy the sleeves when you get them.

Hello! I have been using and loving my tempest with the wand. In addition to being a ritualistic personal device, I want to use it as my vaping with buddies device. I have a question on back to back bowls. how long do you wait to reheat? I use a scruffy stand and I think I get both clicks while reloading but the tempest head is definitely not all the way cool when I reheat it for the next bowl. I'm worried that running the normal 525-550 cycle will combust if the tempest is not all the way cool again. How do you all handle this? I thought about perhaps just pulling on the second click when reheating or something.

Personally, I mostly use my tempest on a glass piece. Using it this way with the Tempest already mounted on the glass, I am able to put the wand on the tip and draw slowly until I see vapor starting to fill the can, and then remove the heat. Obviously, this works wet or dry and with a fresh bowl or a reheat. I find this method works very well. I never combust and I can get the most out of the load.

I don't wait at all. I reload then put it back in the wand. Using the visual indicator as a guide, or drawing on the device after about 10 seconds.

Don't put it in a scruffy woofer cooling stand. The residual heat in the balls is a good thing if you want multiple bowls, as it makes it far more efficient. Subsequent bowls take about 10-12 seconds in the wand for me. The Tempest is the only vape in this format that I ever do multiple bowls with, due to that efficiency.

I have been meaning to learn to do this as I explore more manual vapes.

I might be doing it wrong with the wand. The visual indicator was one of the tempest features I was most excited about. at least the way I have it setup I have a lot of trouble seeing the visual indicator while in the wand. I actually trimmed the silicone insert thing a bit to try to get better visibility but it seems like the visual indicator is right where the insert curves. I've tried different lighting conditions, flashlights, etc.

If I could actually see the visual indicator while the wand is heating that would solve everything. Did you have to do anything in particular to be able to use the visual indicator while in the wand?

I use the woofers cooling stands too, don't use it till your done, between bowls I use the lid from the reload.
The cooling stands work brilliantly, but you want to keep that heat for your session.

When I'm chaining multiple bowls, half or full bowl, I reheat till the visual indicator is at the middle marker.
Also, wand induction coils, batteries and battery power level will affect how it all works too.

As the the power in your batteries lowers, when the display is showing 2 bars, you might need to keep it on the power longer, the middle marker on the VI might be sufficient, but you might need to leave it longer, maybe until it's between the middle and last marker, or indeed on the last marker.
When mine gets down to one bar, I need to keep the power on till it gets to the 3rd mark to get the same roast on the bowl.

Once you've learned how it all reacts, there's zero thought process in all of this.
Enjoy chaining bowls, this device is superb, new meds arriving this week, WOOHOO 😁

It might be your insert, it's weird, I have three of them, my original seems slightly different from the last two I got.
One of them I've passed around other people with a community head I got (one to share around and let folk try it), they've all had issues seeing the VI through the wand adapter.

My original adapter, I can see the VI perfectly, it's so clear, even when it's pitch black, the light from the wand is enough to let me see what's going on, yet the two I got later on, where the bottom meets the sides, there's more distortion, so it's really hard to see the VI when it's moving, I'll end up moving it here and there to try and see it better.

Have you seen the mad heaters manual with the gifs? Sounds like you may be inserting the adapter incorrectly. My silicon piece didn’t interfere with the visual indicators at all. I can see mine through the glass just like the manual shows.

I hope to be able to do the draw on 4/20 next month for the reviews, so make sure to leave a review if you'd like to enter. The chances of winning one of the new Tempest 2s are currently around 7%.

You can submit a verified review through the review notification email you received sometime after your order.
Alternatively, you can leave a review on the product page, but make sure to use the same email address you used for the purchase.

A limited batch of early units will follow shortly after if all goes well on both the UK & EU sites.

oh this is huge, thanks! I never considered that my wand insert might be the problem. Here is a picture of my tempest in the wand with the vi pointing towards me:

You can see that the VI is completely obscured and useless. What do you think would be a good way for me to get a good wand insert? Do I literally have to buy 3 of them and hope one is good? @Brenyo is this an issue MH is aware of? Do I have any options to get a working wand insert through MH?

Does that include older reviews? Not sure I've got anything to review.... And can't afford anything 🤣

Yeah this looks similar to the two I have that are trickier to see. I think it's just the way they're made, massive produced glass adapters may be difficult to QC like that, so long as they pass fit and strength tests, that'll probably be it.
I mean I can still use them, and I am see the VI, but it's definitely a bit distorted to look at.

The better one I have, I'll try and get a photo of it tomorrow, it's soaking at the moment, I'd been using it for months without checking how dirty it was getting.
