The Screwball by Vapvana

I got the ace in today and have been trying it out. Today only flower. Tomorrow, I'll try some concentrate. I've been running 525 after burn out and haven't played around with temp yet. It seems to handle slow or hard pulls equally. It was a nice surprise to get the big league bubbler and hybrid bowl in at once. So far I'm not thinking too deeply about the green o-rings. I'm enjoying some homegrown crescendo rbx1 and keep swapping between glass bowl and metal and big league bubbler and zob og beaker. I'm diggin it.

Are you referring to the pre-order ace bundle with the hot hole and banger for dabs? Interested in your experience if so.

Purchased the ace bundle back on 9/7. No salt about the timing but wondering about cancellation options in any case. Has anyone cancelled their pre-order?

My pre-orders were between Aug 27-31. The blender and sidewinder bangers are not in yet and were part of that email. The Ace bundle still comes with the banger pictured (10mm). I tried the banger earlier with some GG4 x Mythic OG Live Badder (still at 525). It worked alright, kind of on the light/low temp side of things. I'll have to tinker and dial things in.

It seems like 3 ace bowls is about equal to one volcano bowl so I'm not wowed so far by the process. It takes more effort loading/unloading multiple to get to where I want to get to. I've gotta try filling the bowls more and upping the temp. On the plus side I can get there without any irritation or coughing compared to bags on the volcano. :2c::peace:

I preordered the ACE and the heat post on September 25, 2024. I did consider cancelling due to the delay, but the more I thought about it, I decided to be patient. Knowing it is a new company and times are tough for everyone right now. I really want that ACE vape, so how could I cancel.

The owners have been keeping me updated throughout the process. In fact I received the most recent update.

"Cal here, the founder of Vapvanna.

The last part of our order has been held up during the customs clearance process, and we are expecting to receive all the Ace Pre-Order Accessories on Monday or Tuesday this week (we will begin shipping out orders on Tuesday due to Monday being a holiday).

If you have any questions, please respond here.

Thanks again for your patience,

Cal & the Vapvana Team"

I have recently had issues with items passing through customs this year. I understand and will maintain my patience. As long as I receive my order before Christmas, I will be content.

Still waiting, as well. Sent an email at the beginning of last week, got a response that it should be shipping soon, hopefully.

ISO is likely the most common solvent used to clean vaporizers. People are absolutely going to use it to clean these bowls, period. The issue isn't swabbing the O-Rings. It's the fact that they bleed green "stuff" when exposed to ISO. And then the question becomes when they bleed this "stuff" is any left dried on the bowl? And then, when heated to near 500 degrees, does this "stuff" volatilize? Are we inhaling it? I believe it's a legitimate concern. And accusations about people making their own problems aren't going to stop me from asking it.
If it's that big a concern to you then fine, that's your prerogative. My point was the general tone of the thread. If you think there is a manufacturing error, fine. You posted your concerns, it was the way you and others discussed those concerns that I felt was a bit much. I just think the emotion needs to be removed, we're literally talking about O-rings. Good luck getting the issue sorted to your satisfaction, I mean that genuinely.

The O-Rings bleed green stuff when exposed to the common solvent used to clean vaporizers and their parts. The manufacturer sent replacements. The replacements also bleed green stuff when exposed to the same common solvent. I'm not sure why speaking about this fact bothers you so much? Have you used the hybrid bowls yourself?

Does anyone know whether the "wands"/ovens for the Ace and wireless Ruby Twist are going to be cross compatible?

In terms of coil size (ie. width) I'm very confident, the uncertainty is around the depth ie. the additional injector part on the Ruby Twist.

I much prefer the look of the Ace kit, but part of me wonders whether the Crossing wireless kit isnt more likely to be cross compatible.

Ace Day! Overall, quite pleased. Good rips from a powerful and tidy package. The Dugout Dock concept is well executed imo. It looks clean and keeps things organized within a small footprint.

Cons: the screen has a tendency to fall out of the bowl, and the brush that came with disintegrated immediately. The brush is whatever, but the screen falling out with every bowl change is annoying. A proper groove in the glass to hold things in place would be nice.

I had not tried a ball vape or not ball vape until this arrived; so, nothing to compare it to. My ownership history: Extreme Q (2010), Solo (2011), Mighty (with 18mm adapter) (2017), Volcano Classic (2021). For sure sold on ball (or not ball) vapes being the definitive way to consume flower.

Curious what cust service says about the screen falling out?

I'm not sure they'd have anything to say. As jaanky mentioned there's no groove in the all glass bowl for the screen to lock into. It just sits on a small ledge.

While I don't have the full Ace set up, I do have the all glass bowl. My experience is that once you use it a few times a very thin layer of sticky condensed vapor accumulates, and that holds it on the ledge pretty well.

CS has been very responsive and is sending a replacement bowl + brush. They haven't had any other reports of it being an issue, and the bowl has been out in the wild for a bit with their Big League Bubbler.

There is supposed to be a "friction fit" that I can't achieve. They recommended pushing down on the screen with the tamp end of the SQP until it's tight.

Below is a video of the situation. The screen falls out of the bowl 100% of the time unless you hold it in place with a dab tool or something while tipping it over, and even that's not fool proof. It makes emptying a bowl an entire process of fumbling around with ABV particles everywhere and a hot bowl as you attempt to reinsert the screen.

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying the setup and learning curve. I've played with temps at 475*F, 500*F, 525*F, and 550*F. I'm at 500*F with a smaller quantity during the day and 525*F packed a bit deeper at night. Something happens in that 25*F swing that's the difference between a light rail hitting you or a freight train lol. It's amazing how much effect is locked away in such a small quantity. Wireless is clutch -- can't imagine having to deal with a cord. Roast is a little center heavy. I don't bother heat soaking or stirring. My glass is 18mm which means the reducer is necessary. The plastic clip that holds the reducer in place with the bowl creates a gap between the pieces resulting in an imperfect seal, and I've stopped using it. I wish I had a more informed opinion on the heater other than it works well and looks good, but as I'm a complete ball vape newb that's all I got :ko:. The coil and guard are solid. I did touch the guard while the unit had been on for a couple hours, and it works as intended; it was barely warm. All the machined parts look really nice.

Conclusion: the core components are solid, the accessories less so. The bowl/screen might need improvement if this isn't a one off issue, and I'd like to see an 18mm version that doesn't require an adapter. CS has been great, but I'm a little worried this is just the way the bowl is. I will report back when the replacement arrives! I really do want this to be a home run for the Vapvana team. The Ace Bundle is one tight screen away from being a great choice for new ball vaporists looking for good value in a plug and play package. However, someone looking for the most high end and luxurious option might be better served elsewhere -- they'll also need to find an additional $300.

Along with this, I think the screen will start to form and cooperate more with some use & heat ups if I remember correctly.

Nice write up @jaanky , setup looks sweet! The bowl length has been shortened too. Would be nice with a native 18mm connector though.

Got my ace bundle in on Tues. Extensive test day yesterday. Will post a longer review but wanted to comment that I had the same issue with the screen coming out nearly 100% of the time (yes I've used other bowls like this and used a light touch). Its strange because it pops back in quite easily with a gentle finger or thumb press.

No reports because most people, including myself, wouldn't contact their CS about it being it's mostly a non issue. But for the record, mine always pops out when it's fully clean. Learned that the hard way the first time I used it and literally dumped my abv and screen right into the garbage can. Oops. As I'd already mentioned, use it a few times, it gets bit sticky, the screen stops popping out.

As an aside, friction fit is just a fancy way to say the screen should have an outer diameter that makes it snug when it sits in the bowl. But these screens are massed produced junk, so some will fit tighter than others. You yourself already know a dedicated groove or channel, like on their Ti bowls, would likely be better. Likely not easy to do with a glass bowl though.

I don't think we should accept the screen coming out so easily, and I don't think a product should need to be dirty to function correctly. FWIW, it has not improved with use for me. 100% fail rate. My preference is to keep glass and screens clean to maximize flavor, and I think it's reasonable to expect a product to work well when it's clean.

The current experience is poor and makes back to back rips a real chore. I'd love to report on how well the heater retains heat with quick, successive uses, but right now it gets a ton of time to reheat as I fight the bowl :(

Well, no one said it should be accepted. And if you peruse my postings in this Vapvana thread, you'll note I'm rather critical of their rush to push out products that aren't 100% there yet.

My point is the lack of CS interactions regarding the ACE bowl isn't because most function properly. It's because most people don't consider the issue a bother as you do.

I agree with you.

Yup we're totally on the same page, I was just expanding on why I thought it was worth reaching out to CS and played off your comment.

I don't disagree with your statement about contacting CS about the screen. I will say that I've been using a similar style glass bowl with a screen (and different ball vape) for months without it ever coming out unless I intended it to for a deep clean. I believe both bowls are notched/groved/channeled) tho its hard to tell.

I would find it inconvenient - at the very least - to have to re-seat the screen every time I discard abv and while waiting for the screen to get sticky may be an option I'm not sure its the right one in this case. I actually prefer the fit and finish of the Vapvana bowl overall but was surprised by the screen issue - despite it being new.

I think an increasing number of people are used to glass screens (for coarse material) or no screen (concentrates) will find these types of issues more annoying than others and I think they are right overall to expect a better solution (and maybe a price increase).

The two ACE glass bowls I have on hand will friction fit the screens just fine (these shipped a while back when the bowl first became available). I would imagine it's hard to get the tolerances just right when working with glass but the one thing I suggest is to manually flatten out the screen as best you can before popping it in.
