I've mastered ohms law some 4 decades ago. That is why I was wondering what the voltage peek was that the mod would put out. This is a case that can be real hard on internal components if not mitigated. This is due to to the energy in the chokes used for power conversion. Excessive spikes from hysteresis can degrade the electronics. One of the things I would look for in evaluating mods if I had the tools.

I watched the resistance changes in a halogen bulb with the volt mini. Crazy! It sets the current based on initial resistance and doesn't monitor it. It goes from sub-ohm to well past 5 ohms as temp increases. So for a halogen log, you need real-time resistance monitoring or a fairly comprehensive curve.

At 70w the mod would put out around 4.x volts and around 17a this is what would be coming out of the mod. That's the max I set it to use though, I have no idea what it actually used to regulate temp.

70w on the setup I tested would pull around 10a on the li ion. Getting high and maybe past comfort zone. Most vaping mods should be rated 15a though and mines 30a

Just to keep someone new to the thread from thinking they had somehow stumbled into a private conversation ( just kidding guys) I am just reading your insights and praying rosary beads one of you gets this all figured out so I can drop somewhere north of $50 to beg you to make me one!!

:whip: No DIY-genes @Choices ? Mods or cells?

I DIY things. A bit too much according to my better half who prefers to call a repair specialist. I dabble more in other realms. I just know from the number of times I’ve highlighted things and then looked them up I have a lot of catch up to do. Happens with me when I start messing with tube radio equipment as well. I am fiddling around with a fresnel lens based heater for my Vapcaps. Does that count?

Sorry haha. I just seen a lot of people praise the PA. Saying it makes the mflb work better for them and figure this would be better then pa. And mod with adaptor would cost about what the pa does.

Edit: Their is actually nothing to figure out really. With the adapter you could just raise the watts/v till you get what you want (just like pa). Just wanted temp control to work also for extra features.

Also I imagine before the PA was released, people would think hooking the mflb up to AC outlet would be a joke, but seen it works better for them. This is beefed up PA that is portable and can hook up to AC (some mods can charge while using)

In case you don't know how mods works. You can adjust the watts/volts it's putting out. That is basically all mods do. put out set watts/volts.

Take this unit for example. https://i.imgur.com/5ndQe7m.jpg
Fully functional and not much larger then if you used aa. Yet can adjust from sub 1v to 4v. So a portable more adjustable PA pretty much. This one is adjustable in 0.1w intervals also. So way more fine tune.

Edit: Also, I am pretty transparent with the adapter and the original design is solid. In case you wanted to make one, it's basically a Billow v2 base with metal rod.

https://i.imgur.com/1DPIrke.jpg

Whole outer shell is negative (even part I am touching) and that center part is positive. I put steel tube around positive and push a 5mm steel rod down for positive. (this pic didn't have steel rod in place, was cleaning it for better connections and took pic)

That definitely counts @Choices . And definitely subscribing to the fresnel posts when they show up. Sun-source or LED source?

You didn't answer the question though... Are you preferring a mod or cell solution? I can certainly forward the prototype 3800 if you want a taste of this thing. Just need to know you can charge the cell. And which MF charger do you have? I still have a compatibility issue with one or two of their offerings.

@scy123 - MF made the PA way early. Another great little Hobbit device that fit the steampunk bill of the LB. Works great in a tabletop session. MF never pursued portable power outside the AA cells. The hack is a portable power pack. But the wires takes away from the LB experience. Cell or Mod solves this. Mods give you the best control.

Sorry, I actually did not want this to be a competition or whatever. Just wanted to get into small scale manufacturing and design and figure this would make for good experience. I agree my communications skills would need work.

Hehehe happy vaping all!

I have the basic black MFLB charger that holds two glyphs. A mod sounds intriguing but I have no mod based 510 type vapes so there is that. And I get no images showing in the links you post but that is likely something on my end...

 I have 3 standard chargers and they are all different as far as the pocket where the cell sits. Still some design work to do to complete that in the puck. But if you have a Ni-Mh charger what can take a standard sub-C, this thing is ready to go. And no, I'm not after your money... just sharing.

I still have one 4200 cell to rebuild. Just not sure when I will get to things. The tweak to the design shouldn't be huge. I was trying to give the head of the cell a bit more comfort when pushing it.

Can see the eye rolls lol. When I first posted I was not gonna mention any other stuff people where doing, but kinda hard to do when they are mentioning yours.... and got carried away. hehehe

These are two techs where the pa is a 3rd. I've never been comfortable being tangled in wires. Never liked ear buds either. Your solution is a natural evolution with today's tech. If someone points me to a solution for under a bill, that would motivate me. And no worries - I don't have commercial ambitions in this endeavor.

PA is basically same though, converts unusable voltages to usable ones while being able to adjust the output.

Now that I can see the images I concur the mod you showed @scy123 looks like a proper sized solution especially if it has pass through capacity while charging. Do you or @TommyDee have links to parts to source/make one? Is it really that simple? Heck I’d give it a go...

Parts used for my adapter.

1. Billow v2 tank. (I used an official one so clone might be different size dunno.)
2. Steel tube. (This can be anything that fits around the positive on base, I used metal mech pencil cap lol)
3. Solid steel rod around 5mm width and maybe 2cm long. (I just found something that fit the tube and cut to length)

I'll post more info and detailed instructions later. Hardest part is using dremel to cut rod to size lol.

Edit: dunno about other mods, mines really high end. Mines has pass though at 2a and 5v. Didn't do calculations but your not gonna out vape the charging rate. Would suggest charging when not in use to avoid damage to the usb though.

Edit: I haven't thoroughly tested with regular mflb, just Maud dib. With Maud Dib I could just hit for 2-3s and be good. Regular mflb, I have done no test and some mods have a puff limit, mines 20s, but most 10s or shorter. Also mods have the capacity to glow the screen quick, if you diy you would have to keep it low and adjust accordingly.

Edit: the original design was kinda janky cause I just threw it together to use. Didn't really want to make a janky guide so gimme a day or few to throw a proper one together.

What model is your mod? I am interested in reading more about it. Thanks!

Dna 250c. Best of the best.... those guys just make boards for people to make mods to sell though.

Edit: official link https://www.evolvapor.com/products/dna250color

Edit: Just estimated the run time with my mod. This would be for regular mflb rated @0.14ohm.

Firing at 1.3v from mod, it would fire a straight 1 hour for each 3000 mah li ion in the mod. So straight 2 hours for my mod.

This was hardware test, which matches calculations. 0.14ohm @ 1.3v = 12w. A single 3000mah li ion has around 11wh.

Edit: BTW the official mfg of billow v2 is Eciggity, so getting from them is a good idea. You could make this for $10 if you wanted.

Uhmmm okay I don’t know anything about mods. Where is the rest of it? Like I mean is this just the circuit board? I’m so confused...

Evolve vaping only makes boards. It's nice cause they list literally all specs and you can question them further (they are US company so way legit).

For acual products

The one I have is a Lost Vape Paranormal 250c. Which is made by lost vape but uses Evolve made hardware.

I can see the confusion though. Not a lot of stuff is like this. Evolve Vaping makes best hardware.... but only sells circuit boards for other mfg to use.

Edit: acually this is kinda common like Nvidia and such.

Yep... and it seems a good option to repackage it for battery use. The wires presents an ergonomic user issue. And being one of those users, I can tell you, wires are not for me.

And yes, when I use 3X 18650 to power the power adapter it is more than enough juice for several complete LB sessions. Since all the voltage is being bucked down, even current requirements for each cell can be minimal. A good single 18650 MOD would suffice.

Yea, I posted 1 li ion would power the mflb for a straight hour.

The PA is really janky. If anything, the pressure put will make them up their game. Like the mflb was really nice and all but PA = janky.

Edit: and a 90 day warranty? If they believe their product delivers...... at least a year or 2. Ain't spending no money on something that they can only guarantee will last 90 days

Edit: was just googling mflb pa to look at their design choices over the years and guess what popped up on first page. https://i.imgur.com/6HaMrDM.png

My original design I made 2 years ago, 2 years and still kicking.

That is actually my main oil/weed mod too. Even took it apart to see if I can put larger battery and stuff... still works fine.

It was lifetime. There is a rocky history on the PA n general conversation. A water session is okay with the PA and it works, but a quick aside to take my meds, not so much. I don't have an indoor to partake.
