Discontinued The Grasshopper

My SS Hopper (SN GS0036**) is also running very hot on the backend. From my very first puff on a cold hopper I notice the backend has a lot of heat. (Back-end is the source of heat, I've checked the battery immediately after and it was nowhere near as hot).

It doesn't get "burning" hot, but it is considerably hot on the back-end.

Performance wise, this vape seems to be extracting pretty well, but I'm not able to *MILK* it like I see in the vidoes with my vape set to 5 - I can't quite get that complete white-wall effect I got with my loaner titanium hopper.

As you mentioned, I noticed my back-end doesn't get as hot when I'm running freshly charged batteries (especially when I switched to a Nitecore D2 external charger for charging batteries).

From what I've heard in the past, I don't know if they recognize a hot back-end as an "issue" currently. PLEASE keep me posted as I have the same symptoms, but I doubt an RMA request will do much at this point.

Honestly I'm personally waiting for something else to break on my vape before I start the RMA process. At least my hopper is working right now, that's better than a lot of people still waiting on their hoppers!
Mine is still working great. Capable of huge clouds in my opinion. Don't have any glass pieces, so I don't know about whitewalling one, but it produces way more vapor than my other vapes on the same temp or even higher in the case of my vapcap

Edit: just received a followup on my warranty request, they said it is normal for the backend to heat with some use as long as it doesn't become burning hot. They asked if I've had any error lights which I haven't (except once when I'm pretty sure I didn't click the button all the way down on the second day and it hasn't happened since) so I'm just going to hold onto it now I imagine.

No doubt mine is also producing clouds - but not exactly the size clouds I'm expecting compared to my previous experience with a Titanium hopper back in November 2015.

The biggest concern I have is the fact I can't white-wall my GB-187-S - literally can't get vapor density to reach completely milky white like I can with some other vaporizers. Although I am starting to think my current batch of herbs may be the culprit. I need to experiment more and see what happens.

Exactly what I expected them to say.

Coincidentally I used my FLIR gun to measure the heat produced by the backend of my hopper - seems to be localized to directly behind the pocket clip on the hopper. Unfortunately I don't have a memory chip in my FLIR camera at the moment so I couldn't capture a picture for ya'll, but hopefully I can in the near future.

Like I said, I'm waiting for something else to break on my hopper before I open a warranty request hahaha

Hmm. Perhaps it is just the herb. Mine I find hard to believe it could produce bigger clouds. In one or two hits I get more vapor than double or perhaps triple the hits on my vapcap with the same amount in them. If someday I get a "fixed" hopper and it functions better I would be astonished.

Try it by drawing slow and then start ramping up your speed when you see it starts producing more vapor, since with the water tool you're pushing the heater more. I find that when I start off by pulling slow it allows the heater to actually heat up and not get over powered.

Yeah, I definitely prefer fresh more often which is part of the reason the Grasshopper appealed to me. So it's great that it excels at that mode of operation.

I like to experiment, but I tend to have a "sweet spot" with vapes that I stick to 90% of the time. It looks like my sweet spot for the GH is .04 grams at temp 4.

Tonight I will test it with water, and I plan on testing concentrates again too, this time at temp 4 instead of 5.

I got into a debate about this with @BuzzDanklin a few pages back. I think you're right that moutpeice heat is inverse to amount packed but determined that using small amounts, for the way I like to use the grasshopper, especially, more fresh hits more often is just better for me for a variety of reasons, especially since after about a year using the Grasshoppper I really don't find moutpeice heat an issue. I would occasionally use the silicon when I first got the GH but I couldn't even tell you where mine is now, maybe in the car, I haven't used it in months ... the silicone that is, I use my grasshopper in my car everyday, works great while charging.

I've only had a few hits but I was surprised at the effects for only two draws (two different times); it crept up on me. The tip got pretty hot but going deep helps. The back-end definitely got quite warm. This was with the SS.

The taste couldn't touch the FW3 but it was pretty good. I clearly need more time.

Hi still waiting, just to clear it up I am in Australia not USA. Ta

Ok I will make this my last winge post and wont mention again. Im sitting here with a broken shoulder and leg so am waiting and waiting for a bit of happiness for my hopper to turn up. I hate myself that I am so impatient but have to write this to let off a bit of steam. Due to Vaporshop`s crap postage system I am REALLY pissed off but more at my impatience . I thought I would pay a extra $200 almost by ordering from overseas (vaporshop) so I would not have to wait for Australian distributor to get there`s at end of June/July at a lot cheaper price. IT look`s apparent that if it does ever turn up it will be at the end of June/July. Apparently it left Europe on the 16th June but after ringing Australia Post ALL they can tell me is it left 16th and that`s it, other answers I have had were on the 12th. If I go to tracking info Vaporshop sent me it says it left on the 9th. I am stuck in limbo now because im not getting any "it landed in Australia" tracking (should have by now?) or anything soooo pissed off with vaorshop and really there lack of mailing options and mailing times information. I really dont recall when I ordered, it said could take up to 3 weeks plus to deliver, naturally I will never get anything again from them unless they seriously change there mailing system . I have NEVER had such long delays with any other firm (except when ordering Silver Surfer years ago from USA). waiting, waiting.

Will wait till a full failure if it's occuring ;-)

I contemplated that but what if too many failures and company fails along with them...I got my warranty claim answered in less than 24 hours, they are sending a new back-end and a charger - so no signs of trouble.

I don't how the postal service is in Australia, but I had to input my tracking from Vaposhop into the usps (United States Postal Service) website to get updated tracking. Just got my hopper today after being in limbo at Chicago's customs, so hopefully you don't have to wait much longer.

Love this awesome piece of vaping tech.

Grabbed another two hits at 2. I would have expected more flavor. Bumped it to 3 and I'm waiting for an opportunity to continue. Effects remain good. Haven't worried about the vapor heat thus far but I haven't gone hot yet. The back-end continues to be surprisingly hot.

ETA: This vape creeps up on me. Where most of my vapes attack aggressively, this one sneaks up on me and hits me in the back of the head. I've just gotten an unexpected wave of euphoria from 2. Fun.

ETA: Never been a combustor, so my throat and lungs are wimpy. Wrapped up a session with 3, then 4 and did not get the cough I get from the Herc. Very surprised by that. The mouthpiece heat is much more intense than the vapor heat.

ETA: Tapped it out at 5. Not much vapor left after temp-stepping. The vapor was still surprisingly tolerable. The mouthpiece and back-end got very warm.

One thing I love about mine, never makes me cough if I don't become too ambitious.

After 2 weeks of vape life changing clouds turned into desperate almost fiendish wispy cloud chasing:freak:...I keep trying to figure out the issue as I have a new back end on the way (warranty super smooth so far btw)...main thought is batteries keep dying way too quick..

I am wondering if anyone else's batteries start flickering on hit 2 or 3...that's hit not oven:/

New back end will perhaps solve all my issues BUT...I have 2 hoppers and 2nds now doing the same thing:suspicious: soooo I'm thinking maybe I somehow managed to damage all 5 batteries? Yeesh..

I have 5 batteries that rotate on my nitecore i4 and every once and a while a get a real nice cloudy hit before the battery starts to flicker and the back end gets real hot...but for the most part it seems the battery starts to die right away as if damaged..for all 5. I'm a li-ion noob...perhaps they are easily damaged? They haven't left room temp..or anything else weird I can think of. Or perhaps they came bum? How could one tell? Anyone else with a similar issue? Perhaps I'm alone on an island with 2 hoppers and 5 bum batts..

I'm really sorry to hear your order has not arrived yet. Unfortunately shipping from EU to AUS is quite slow and the tracking options are limited, this is something we're taking lessons from to improve in the future. (Also see my other post where I stress that we focus on the EU market and our distribution systems are not set up to deal with large volumes of orders to other continents). We did clearly indicate that your package can take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive, I'm confident it will show up shortly.

I've sent you a PM to further discuss this, as I don't believe this needs to be discussed in this thread in detail.

I vaped two loads last evening, just shy of 4, with the silicon mouthpiece and this time paid attention to the temp of the back end. I'm very fortunate that, at the moment, my back end stays nice and room temp to the touch or darn close to it. Yeah, the mouthpiece gets hot and the body gets warm after use, but my back end is fine. Just offering as a comparison to others. Clearly there is something going on with some shipped back ends in that they behave differently.

Along with no hot back end, my lights don't flicker really and I do get about 3-4 full oven loads off of a battery.

P.S. - When I have used until battery crapped out, I only got the warning flickering blue light for a couple of seconds then it went to flickering red or just went straight to flickering red and died. This really isn't a problem to me as I have extra batteries and...well, this behavior just doesn't bother me...particularly compared to the many other features I like so very much.

Cheers

Crazy that you are having identical problems with both GH's. As you know...we both bought two SS's and from the same two places. My first GH is still trucking along perfectly. I certainly get many pulls prior to the flickering blue light which starts to indicate a depleting battery. Once flickering....I still get several pulls prior to the flashing red signal that battery has died. Although I don't consider myself a heavy hitter, I typically have a battery last me 1 day +. I've only dry tested the new SS GH that I got from the Netherlands....but it seems to work perfectly as well. Neither of my devices produce heat at their back ends. I have four batteries....and find no discernible differences amongst them. I am sorry for your trouble...but I am certain that you will find remedy.

Side note: I did purchase the GH leather case last week and I am surprised at how effective it is. The GH leather case does not add much bulk to the unit whatsoever and is quite a nice accoutrement....particularly for $10! As I have posted prior...I had been a Pax1 user. Many folks have asked about the GH smell factor. When in use...obviously vapor smells like vapor. When not in use...whether loaded with fresh, loaded with 1/2 used, or not loaded...I find the GH to emit far far far FAR less smell factor when compared to my Pax1.

I've shown this device to a few people of widely varying age(s). It blew everyone's minds....and each of them have told me that they have now purchased (Ebay) a GH for themselves. I've now spent only 10 days with the GH, but I continue to pick it up and marvel at it each day. A working Hopper is a formidable companion. Not only is the GH incredibly effective, its form is as captivating as its function. I continue to be a huge proponent of this product. The reported failure rate is disconcerting to me and certainly must make prospective GH buyers apprehensive. I suppose that the frequency and quantity of GH failure related posts prompt me to post about my exclusively positive experience thus far. May it continue!

Edit: When I just begin to get the blue flicker indicator that batter is getting low....Nitecore charger indicates that I have nearly 50% battery remaining. The blue flicker continues for quite awhile before I get the red light of battery death. The blue flicker escalates as the battery power lessens. As a newbie...it is somewhat difficult to discern between a slow or fast paced flicker (low battery or battery which is nearly dead)....but with time and use....one can more easily tell the difference.

Hoping it just turns up for you like it did when I ordered from the UK to Aus.
LOL I just checked my tracking and it still says

Latest update: It's on its way

Your item, posted on 03/03/16 with reference RI5186289*5GB has been passed to the overseas postal service for delivery in AUSTRALIA.

So that's a pretty ordinary tracking service.
It actually only took 7 days to get here though, using international signed Royal Mail (@VapoShop you may as well be aware that this service is what your competition is using - you may be stuck with a certain provider and the lack of tracking [that actually works] is a real issue, but still, I think it's a cheap way to go - Just purely sharing for interest sake, gotta say I'm really impressed with your online presence - aspiring online business' should take note *cough* HL)

In other news, I am joining jivebuggered on the pissed off bench, because bloody customs have had my hopper for 3 days and they haven't even let me know. Hoping it'll be here before I have to go north, which seems very unlikely.

I require a 100% odor proof case for my vapes and use a cigar tube when traveling with a pre-loaded hopper (see above post).

For carrying all my gear and the Hopper I am using a Pelican 1030 Micro Case and 5 Kodak APS film cans to store four strains and ABV along with 4 spare batteries, eye drops, a crafty cooling unit (hits are so smooth with this mod), and a crafty brush. I have a funnel coming that will fit too.

Is there an auto shut off? I go my unit back and im getting better vapor but nothing crazy and not sure if i have a bad connection or something but when i take a long draw the lights will go from ble to red??

There is an auto-off function which activates around 18 seconds if you don't take a hit (it has a draw sensor). So if you take a puff within 18 seconds it will not shut off.

Are you saying your lights can change to red during the hit?

Do they change back to blue if you slow down/stop your draw?

My SS hopper delivered last week certainly stays in blue the entire hit, unless the battery is dead/dying

That almost sounds like they've updated the LED indicator to switch to red when the heater is running cooler than it should (hitting to hard?).

Just guessing here....

Im wondering if i have bad batteries..seems it would turn red during my draw. Im gonna order some new batts and see if that is my problem.because it happened earlier and i would switch it off after it turned red and then i would click it back on and it would go blue and then into my draw and no vapor so i switched batteries and it was fine..all 3 of these batteries came used with the unit so im gonna get new batts..heck ive already got the body of the hopper replaced..
