A question for all of you hoppers...

I just noticed something I think is odd with my ss gh. When unscrewing it to change the battery, I saw a brief red light. When I replaced the battery and was screwing it closed, the same thing happened. It's like there's a spot during threading that creates a live circuit (my unit was off during this battery change). I didn't notice any heat at the time of the red light-up.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Yes, Me2, I have seen this happen when I'm screwing in the battery - and it's usually when I'm being sloppy about it. For example, whilst screwing in the backend, I decide to adjust the temp dial because I think of not wanting to turn it while the battery is in there... a few or several threads' worth of bite makes the backend wiggle around, and it is during this that I'll see the red momentarily flash, maybe yet again, until I get to business and finish the job of screwing the thing down.

I wonder sometimes if that is a warning sign, but then I think, why would they design it and overlook that glitch if it would make it fail. Perhaps it's nothing.

Thank you, this is great, very helpful! I hope to get more familiar with it all in the coming days.

If after upload I arrive at my "album" (not having created account), do I name that album? How do I access that later? How does it let me find it later if it's private and I'm anonymous? sorry if these are maybe not pertinent questions.

You don't need to name it. You used to be able to access it later (more than a day later) via a unique URL, but I couldn't find that ability when looking yesterday. It seems like you'd need to register to be able to access it later.

Comments on the case: GH fits snug, no movement after screwing on sturdy caps. But so snug, can't insert GH in case with the silicone mouthpiece on. Entire case feels very sturdy. The other slot fits a spare battery and the little herb tube shaped like a battery. Don't like the item description when it suggests holding two batteries -- too dangerous imo. (Batteries don't fit in slot with silicone safety end caps on)

That feeder is amazing.

Two batteries in the case is quite safe, as the plastic body of the case is non conductive and prevents any possibility of short circuit.

Back-end started to get warm. And warmer still. Eventually it got very hot - not quite sizzling-on-my-sweaty-fingers-hot, but still, pretty damn 'ouch that's hot!' - consistently after just one good long hit.

So, I set to work - tearing down an old 'Smash Hits' poster and going about removing the Blu-tac . . . . .

And after just one good clean of the back-end threads with my trusty Blu-tac, the heat issue has been completely and instantly resolved! The back-end now stays completely cool, & I feel that my Hopper is actually performing slightly better than it has been over the past few weeks - MOAR power and fuller extraction. It certainly makes sense, but perhaps it's all in my mind . . . . :freak:

Anyway, +1 for Blue-tac & a nice clean butt!

Has anyone else experienced this?
Not me.

Good morning.

I've pretty much paid attention to all your collective advice and can not get a satisfying hit off of this.
Just tried a different strain, at 3.5 to 4.5 Temps. Felt the heat at the back of my throat, not very comfortable, tasted a mild hint, but not great flavor of the herb. Saw modest , at best, hint of vapor. I did get a bit medicated.
2 choices sell it and go for something like a crafty or mighty, which seem to be more of a point and shoot and do not need to spend a week figuring out if it works or if I have to adjust my draw by 10% up or down, is my herb dry enough , too dry,...
Or get it fixed, which I might get a working unit back, but still might not like and then would be unable to transfer the warranty.
Decisions decisions
Thanks everyone for all your feedback
Sorry you are having a less than stellar experience and it sounds like you're really trying to get it to work!
My last comment is that, counter to the instruction to take short, strong hit & turn off between, I find success with long, mild steady draw - or mild pulsing over the longer time. I see this as a Pax kind of sipping; think of it as allowing the device to actually make the vapor, if you will. I think the first 5+ seconds of draw are sometimes almost void of vape, then it starts to produce. At that point (when I detect vapor) I can accelerate the draw if necessary, though usually by then I've got almost enough. Or just exhale and draw again. Once the Hopper has had one good draw, it's primed and the material is drier, warmer and ready to really give up the goods. One caveat to add is, the lower the quality of material, the more this technique seems to help. Great bud can produce and come on even early...

Others might suggest just the opposite! I do understand there are other draw methods (sounds like you've tried!), and I use other technique for big pulls, with glass, etc. But I think the method I'm describing is worth a shot.
My wife and I have found, at the times we might have just the one hopper going, (though my preference is that we each use our own...) a pattern whereby I usually take the first pull so she just gets to enjoy the easier second.
If you decide to give up on the Hopper, and you wouldn't be the first, a Mighty is a really great choice. Sacrifice of the stealth, on-demand and some other factors, but the Mighty will produce reliable consistent good results, no foolin' around! Ours does not sit idle, even since Hopper infestation!
best of luck sorting this all out.

Anybody else's batteries fully charged when you go to bed at night, then wake up and have them be dead after one hit? This is consistent with all 4 of my units.

I'm cannot express enough how much I just absolutley I fucking despise Hopper Labs. It's really unreal. Laughable. Worst company I've ever dealt with in my entire adult life.

Thanks, you're right! It's plastic.

Charlie, when feeding the hopper, can you adjust the amount? Like, can you do a smaller load by only inserting it halfway?

More comments regarding your question after further play time with this marvelous device:

Instead of allowing spring to push feeding cylinder out to its default fully open position, only let two thirds of cylinder to peek its neck out of its shell. Shake briskly a couple times while maintaining that 2/3 position, then push it back in as usual and twist to lock. Takes some dexterity, though, as it's under spring tension. (for a reason, see below)

Or ...don't really want to say it ... you could remove the spring. Now you manually pull cylinder out. Problem with this method is alignment. The cylinder fits in the main feeder with a notch and groove, and the spring assists greatly in keeping that alignment as you twist, release, plunge, and re-twist to lock. Spring also avoids a very bad user mistake -- the half way out point is where you can twist it to the "open" position for disassembly. Not a good position to be in with a full feeder cargo bay load, operated by a loaded user, confusing a left from a right twist. Inventor of the feeder probably had an "a-ha" :science:moment when he came up with the spring idea, to avoid these problems.

And of course the opposite-case questions. Can you fill it tighter/more than the standard? What would happen if you do, say, half load as you describe, then without vaping or dumping, plunge another feeding in there? Or two fillings with no dumping between, would that be just a big mess?

Do you see any (other) cases where this thing might clog, stick, vomit or otherwise fail?
I am so tempted to go for one of these, it looks like the out of house ease of use would be next level. Thanks for keeping us informed with your experience and observations.

Funny you should ask that. When trying less than full loads just now, maybe I was not shaking firmly, or moist herb out of grinder, whatever it was ... only a bit was being loaded, like 0.02, so I just pushed it back it and repeated. It yielded a nearly full load.

Then I tried intentionally doing a "double dip." It works -- you get a really dense pack. Still no mess.

Amazing machine. :love::rockon:

I have two dead batteries, and a few others that seem pretty near-death, and two that are average.
The near-death batteries won't hold charge for long and do what you're describing.
The batteries are only rated 100-200 charge cycles, which is quickly clocked up all things considered.

Sorry you feel that way about HL. Gotta say, wish my worst company experience was with them. I can't even imagine how they could approach being in the top 10, but I guess you've never incorrectly had to deal with a debt collector because your ISP fucked up. A consumer-goods company driving people to aggravation is one thing, but that pales compared to what's out there.

Take it easy man.

That's pretty cool. How is the airflow with a double pack?

I finished that double 0.2g load, read your question, and felt obliged to do a normal 0.1g follow up for comparison. Thank you, so glad I tried both back to back. Normal 0.1g load wins. Normal feeder load = my optimal load.

I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like dense packs, no ma'am.
I do not like a double packed load.
I do not like my lungs to implode.

A fluffy pack draws easier and you don't have three nasty tasting "cleanup" draws at the end.

January 21, 2016 placed order got comformation on October 18. Finally. I'm just worried that the vapor will be too hot, but I'm sure I'll like it.
Others have found that their Mighty/Crafty cooling/mouthpiece assembly pairs very nicely with the hopper to make for really nice cool vapor. If the hopper is too hot on its own, you can try that. Also, if you look back through these pages you will find many other DIY tips for extending the vapor path to cool things off.

Never been a smoker and I'm a bit of a pussy with vapor hitting my throat. I am shocked to find that I can manage the GH at 5. I do choke sometimes but it doesn't hit me as hard as the old Pinnacle Pro did. As a general rule, I can hit it dry at 5 and do fine.

I think you could say that.

My first vaporizer was a vapir no2 and that was 5 years ago, one month into owning it, my missus found the the mounth piece and silicone hose in my lunchbox , she confisticated them and threw them away I guessed (she's mj nazi) so I've been using the no2 without them for almost 5 years, that's hot and hash compares to the gh.

Saw the nifty dispenser a few pages back, and went searching; has anyone seen this? A combination electric grinder/dispensing pen? Looks a bit larger than the GH, so you'd fill your pen with a larger pen, lol I may have to try this https://www.getpensimple.com
Cool, thanks for sharing that... I was impressed with the video and pre-ordered one as an impulse buy just now... not necessary whatsoever since I already own a nice Space Case grinder and just ordered the eBay Feeder too. But I am such a sucker for gadgets like this.

Expected delivery is December. Let's hope they come closer to their estimates than Hopper Labs...

Oh and just to note: the grinder is not electric, it's manual. The dispensing mechanism is electric. That's fine by me as I'll probably remove the grinder sections to use the 3g storage config. If it works half as good as it appears to in their video, it'll replace my All-n-1e

Seriously? there are no "lights" in the Hopper. There is a "light" as in ONE light in the Hopper. If you cannot see it through the holes it is because the light is at a bad angle relative to the position of that hole. Don't believe me? Fill out a warranty request and they will do nothing and send it right back.

we had already worked that one out but thanks

mine has done it since new and makes a high pitched noise at the same time, does it on any temp higher than minimum

my ss and ti gh also had the flashing red led when inserting new battery and screwing the mp on... then this behavier disapeared.. and only sometimes flashed not every time... my replacments also are flashing sometimes and I considered it has to do with the battery becquse it is not alwas flashing when changing batteries... would be interesting ehat it really means...

BTW to milk my bubblers really well.... I take a short fast primer hit... wait 2 to 10 sec. without turning the gh off in between... and then take a slow long draw until the bubbler looks like filled with "smoke" (I know it is vapor but looks like...) you can not see through the bubbler (temp. 5, empty bubbler)... that is my prefered way to use the gh...

Yeh I got one of those as well.

Mine is supposed to arrive in November some time.

I think it's a pointless purchase as far as I can see as I believe I'd mostly get the equivalent result pre-grinding and using a doob tube. However I had the cash and I'm a gadget enthusiast so I got one on launch day.

Will report back as soon as I have news.

Hi guys!

I haven't posted here in a long time, and have some sad news for you all regarding the SS GH I received this august after a long year of waiting...

I have to say that since I received the unit, it has performed erratically....
It showed Sensor Damage Lights almost from the first day, but after some clicker-twisting and rattling it would eventually work and heat up, so I kept using it.
Sometimes it took almost 20 seconds to heat up, sometimes less, sometimes I just turned it off while LEDs were still red because I thought it was taking too long...
I have even combusted more than once with the unit being set at level 3... :uhh:

Obviously my unit isn't working properly... But you know... Every now and then it would eventually work and I could get my sweet vapor, so I just postponed the warranty request.

When it arrived, the charger worked well, and I used it for almost two months. Ten days ago it started showing one red/blue/red LED sequence when connected, and then stop charging.
I believe this is a new light secuence that I haven't read about, not here nor GHL's Troubleshooting Guide...
Anyone here with the same experience?
(Please notice it is not the same sequence as the sensor damage nor overheat lights.)

So that's when I bought a Nitecore d2, which I've been using since with no problem at all, batteries being in perfect shape.

Finally (and sadly) we arrive to this last weekend, and I can say now that my GH isn't working anymore. No more twisting or clicking, nor thread cleaning, or any other of the fixes work anymore.
It just stays with the sensor damage lights once you turn it on... :bang:

So I just submitted my first Warranty Request. I hope it is a smooth (and fast) experience!
I'll keep you guys updated!

By the way, I want to thank you all for posting so much useful info! You really help a lot of people out there

Peace!
