@OF you make some seriously valid points!! At this point they should have more going on that what they do,MHO, and personally I think that Matt and Trevor should basically be the QC at this point.

Thanks, bitter experience I assure you.......

I agree, it sounds like Matt and Trevor are wearing a lot of hats. However, it's a known danger point if they are involved with both QC (more rightly QA) and either production or design. There should be a clean cut with a 'third party' in on the Manufacturing Release. QC/QA is supposed to be 'those picky bastards', not part of the production or design efforts. Let alone both. Otherwise you never make QA, all you can do is hope to inspect for known defects.

Such systems are traditional because experience has shown the wisdom of such organization. We have the record of many similar efforts to draw on. What's the quote about those that don't learn from history?

I definitely agree the two of them are doing way too much. I'm surprised they haven't dropped from exhaustion.

I also agree about the QC and QA, sadly though we have no idea what's going on and how many people they have working, I doubt very seriously that they have a third party at this point. That shows in this latest update, they seem excited to have hired 3 new people. Still just my opinion, but at this stage, shipping the product, and the fact that they are shipping so few at a time, one of the two of them should be handling a good majority of the QC. Then as they get more rolling off the assembly and are comfortable with the quality, then get a third party, or a dedicated inspector.
And they can return to the business aspect.

Man, if I lived in Boulder I'd be banging on their door and volunteering to assemble and ship Hoppers. Duty now for the future :)

Same, as much as I am agitated by the responses I have gotten from them I still really really want this to have a happy outcome, to be honest I supported this when I was almost broke, legit had very little spending money.

I really want to see good come of this....

@OF I hope Hopper Labs are reading your posts. They need some consultations from someone like you I think. It all sounds like good advice to me. I agree everything should have been ready to go for assembly as soon as all the parts were ready.

They need to cut through the BS and be honest with the customers. Im starting to get turned off by all the misinformation coming from the company.:\

I apologize if I missed it, but have they responded to your two defective ones yet?

It's possible that it's not speed of assembly, but rather availability of heaters. As I recall there were issues with the monthly quantity available, and the public has no idea how many they are getting a month at this point.

Just a tiny update, the back end heating has seriously toned down as time goes by, i think it might be the battery cycling, but then again I'm not an engineer. I agree with other titanium users that it goes seems to run hotter and therefor extract the aromatic oils and compounds faster than the steel. Also, rather then harp on the heat generated, my ghs are solely water pieces or one hitters, I cant session this at all without tender lips. However, imho there is no feeling quite like a tick 5 through a mflb orbiter.

Edit: I do wish the screen on the draw end was finer. Kief flies right past it, but no stray bits like an unscreened solo stem.

Edit2: This product and this development/production cycle is admittedly a bit dicy, but ultimately when I hit this heavy steel rod looking thing that's obviously designed by engineers (or not designed for that matter) it makes me proud to be a Chinese American.

It's not battery cycling. There is heat in the back end because there is a point of resistance there(when there shouldn't be.)
It's not something to just shrug off, ask the mechanical ecig guys. Things can go boom real quick by ignoring such things.

My :2c:

You should have no heat in the back end at all, unless it got there by your hand or by slowly transferring along the body.

Here is how I read it.

Hi Everyone,

We’re here with the August 1st update. Assembly is progressing nicely and Hoppers are shipping everyday. We’ve brought on two new employees to speed up assembly, and they’re rapidly getting up to speed on the processes.

(We are understaffed and undertrained but we are working on it)

Shipping volume will be improved once they’re fully operational. Additionally, we’ve hired an in-house customer service representative to help with the request workload. This should free up more of our time to develop the assembly line and make the tasks themselves much faster.

(Slow shipping is due to non working units, We hired a PR guy to deal with unhappy customers so we can keep working on fixing new problems.)

We’re still not very accurate in our estimations of shipping dates, as assembly has taken longer than we originally expected. With lots of Hopper parts in stock, we’ve simply been grinding away building units. With just a few of us, this has gone slowly but with more help and better equipment we are starting to make a dent. Please consult the website for updated estimated shipping info later this coming week. We’re adding new data from assembly to our system to better estimate when your unit will arrive.

(We have lots of parts but assembly time is killing our latest shipping estimates so check back soon for new updates.)

The feedback from the community has been great so far. We are very pleased that those who have received their Grasshoppers seem to be thoroughly enjoying them. We are taking note of all the user comments we receive in order to improve our processes and see what we need to explain more thoroughly.

(The ones that work, work well and we are listening about the ones that do not and trying to get better with PR.)

Some users have had a question regarding the Auto-Off feature of the Grasshopper. The Grasshopper has an Auto-Off timer which will turn your unit off automatically if you do not draw through it. This feature helps preserve battery life and keeps your unit from getting too hot. To prevent the unit from turning off while you are using it, take a firm draw shortly after the lights turn blue.
(It turns off automatically)

Adjustments to the price and estimated delivery for new orders will be made this month as well.

(Buy now or pay more later with better shipping dates)

We’ll have another status update on the 15th.

E-Cig user here, can confirm, it's the reason I stay away from Mechanical mods and stick to regulated.

Rule for E-Ciggs is if its hot there back away, put it in a sink...

Mechanical ecig user here, shorting like that can very quickly lead to catastrophic battery failure. When it happened with a mechanical mod I had the button and bottom end heated to very uncomfortable levels very quickly. In a space of seconds. On mechanicals with magnetic switches, when it arcs the button will also get very hot very quickly (uncomfortably so even as quickly as 2 seconds with a fully charged battery). These are issues that render devices very dangerous and I cannot recommend somebody use their mechanical ecig if it happens. Considering the GH has mechanical connections (right?) it seems like it's a similar situation compared to mine. Only other consideration I guess is the fact that we (mech ecig users) usually stick to 18650 cells, capable of more amps and higher mah and such compared to what GH uses. Still, that's not a problem that I would feel very comfortable vaping through. Just yesterday I watched a video where a person used a battery that was labeled 30a continuous in a regulated box mod that pulled 15a. Box mods are supposed to be much safer with regards to battery failures as the batteries go through PCB's and watts/volts are regulated by a chip. The battery failed pretty much as soon as it started firing and vented visible fluid around the wrap and the paper tab around the positive nub. I'm definitely not accusing GH of supplying bad batteries or whatever (before anyone gets any ideas...) but I can't in good conscience recommend you keep using it if it's getting abnormally hot where it shouldn't be and where the battery contacts and mechanical connections are.

Not to be cynical, but in the update, the way they mentioned the price increase coming this month, kinda gave me the impression of them trying to stir some more purchases.

And if that's the case, it's a very risky thing to do when they are still shipping a significant amount of faulty units.

My friend(the user with the 2nd GH I ordered) had this happen with the GH, it heat up quick(5 seconds of being on) at the back and burnt him basically...

That's an issue, honestly these should be tested before shipment, what if it blows up on someone that doesn't know better, I smell lawsuit at that point no?

Precisely. This is a serious issue, and could potentially turn very bad. You can't mess with these types of batteries, and what happens when you try to charge a hopper that's heating at the backend?

I know there's only so much they can do to test the units before they ship, but the backend heating up should be one of the checks. I'm also worried about what happens if dirt/lint/(God forbid some tiny piece of metal) gets into the thread of the backend. It's beginning to sound like its quite sensitive to shorting.

But then buzz's GH still hasn't had any of these issues, so surely these problems are rectifiable?

Yeah I see this meaning one of two things:
1: they are comfortable enough with the system and are ready to crank more out units. (Not likely)

2: they are running out of capital and need the funds to continue (more likely)

We'll see what happens with the changes this week.

Right, Trevor is getting an email about this. It would be a shame if these were faulty pieces, having waited this long and the performance being so good as it is.

Good luck, I hope he responds. Hey maybe you'll be the first person to talk to the new PR person.

Let us know what they say.

Went through the first load, gotta admit it vapes well but even at heat 2 it burns my lips after 2-4 pulls, not sure about one, I never go that low. The silicone mouthpiece works well, perfect fit and I think it works well, it gets to hot even with that for my friend, which I find odd, betting everyone's gonna feel different about it.

I started at 2, went to 3(When I added the silicone). then 4, then upped to 5, the back and front get pretty hot around 3-4, the middle stays warm but very holdable.

That's after 15 draws by way of all settings. It was loosely packed, amazing air flow also.

Haven't seen to many good pics yet, it is for sure a good one hitter, I think I will be happy when I get both in perfect condition....

Wait it out, I think they are trying to do good and it does function...no burnt herb for instance.

Let us remember, this is a new company, this is not really to unusual. I am in no way bashing them at all, I am just a bit annoyed, lets wait and see how they fix this.

Yes im going to wait. I just get myself worked up

Abv material looks good.Nice deep color
