A perspective on price. In Boulder, CO an ounce of cannabis is from a retail store will be anywhere from $180-300 after tax. No matter what we're talking about we're talking about the same or less than an ounce of weed.
Folks you can't have it both ways. There seems to be some amnesia about this, which considering the occupational hazards of being a cannabis consumer is understandable, but setting aside that we are talking about a CROWD FUNDED STARTUP running on a shoe string budget of $300,000 but lets say it was double that, not even a million dollars. You can't start a pizza shop for under a million dollars. When you contribute to a crowd funded campaign you are not getting any guarantee of anything, you're just saying your idea looks cool and I'm willing to risk X amount of dollars to "maybe" get one later. This economic model is "back to the future" Thomas Jefferson even wrote about subscribing to books or gadgets some he would receive, some he would receive way later than expected and some not at all.
For pre-orders, similarly, its not like you're pre-ordering from Apple, who btw also misses product launches, sometimes by weeks, and sometimes even after "launch" the product is nearly impossible to buy for months most places, and that is a well established multi-billion dollar international company with billions to throw at their process. And even with that, living in Boulder, CO not exactly a backwater, when I bought my Apple Watch a few weeks ago it was because I was in NYC where you could actually find them in stock. In that time I've had to return both my GH and Watch once for a defect and in both instances customer service was excellent.
So my advice to those concerned about the price, first I would say, it seems folks don't want to believe what folks who actually have a GH say about, to you, if you are determined to be disappointed I guarantee you will be. For those that care about price, I would buy now because during the campaign they said the price was going to go up. Anyones opinion on what the price should be or whether raising it is a good idea notwithstanding, they said from the very beginning that both backer and pre-order pricing is to compensate you for your time and support and the final retail price would be higher.
Now lets talk rationally about price.
I have a Firefly, the GH is a similar device (portable, convection, fast startup great flavor). I have also sent my FF back TWICE (again great customer service) and the second time they also sent me a new battery because they ended up changing the battery design and I bought mine in February of this year, WELL after launch. Having both I've only used my FF to compare it to the GH and then like maybe 3 times in the past 3 weeks because the GH is simply, hands down a far superior device. The Firefly? $269 -no lifetime warranty. Do I thing the FF is overpriced? No, I just think its now obsolete because the GH does the same thing for way less money and so far, actually better reliability (I had one of the very first ones and it needed to be replaced, compared to TWO FF's well more than a year into production).
I haven't tried a Crafty which sounds like apart from startup time is also similar to the GH. From what I hear, the major differences between the two since both are convection are startup time (GH 5 secs, Crafty 90 secs) and the Crafty has better vapor quality. I can't attest to it except to see that if it is better, then it should cost more money ... which it does, $330
Let's say the GH ends up being $200 which I doubt .. the next closest thing to it cost $70 more and owning both I can tell you I would never by a Firefly today. I loved it before the GH but it no longer has a place in my rotation. If you got a backer GH and then later realized you wanted 2 and bought one post launch at full price, you still wouldn't have paid for one Crafty yet, so as long as spending WAY more time waiting for your vape to heat up and spending WAY more money for the privilege I would recommend the GH and if you care about paying more, that is easily remedied by buying it now and waiting because with the lifetime warranty (bugs notwithstanding and again I've replaced my GH the SAME amount of times as my Apple Watch which for context cost $350 and has a 1 year warranty) the only thing you're gaining by waiting is the privilege to pay more and get it faster after the time you ordered it.
