Discontinued The Grasshopper

Old & In the Way
Just received ss hopper #2 in the mail. Now do I just leave it in the drawer until something(God forbid) happens to #1 or do u rotate them?
Use it or leave it for a special occasion, but DO NOT register until it actually needs repair. This holds your options open to sell or gift away in the future.

No, this does not sound like normal behaviour. I would suggest doing a warranty claim or at least emailing support and describing your heat/light issue and seeing what they say.
I thought @Kanyayweest 'problem' did sound pretty normal. If I do two consecutive bowls on temp 5, the whole hopper will get hot. He also seemed to describe overheat lights, which are normal if the Hopper is pushed.

I've received the overheating lights before, they are a rapid flashing red/blue. I only got them when I tried to kill a chamber in one hit through water at temp 5. This was last summer with my SS, I haven't seen them after that. They can be seen in the second video on this page:

https://www.grasshoppervape.com/information/troubleshooting-guide/

Today I got the slower red/blue flashing error lights on my Ti. This happened to my SS once as well. I swapped out backends and the Ti backend works fine on the SS, but the SS backend does not work on the Ti body. The SS Grasshopper itself works fine. This leads me to believe the Ti body is bad, and that's also what the issue was with my SS before.

I sent HL a warranty request explaining this. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and didn't watch the video first. I said I was getting rapid red/blue flashing in my email, for some reason I thought the overheating lights were slower.

I feel like a huge idiot, I should have taken my time and watched the video first. I was hoping they would send me a new body, but they want the whole Grasshopper in to look at it. I'm not sure if that's because of my mistake or not, lately it seems they want all of them sent back to run diagnostics on.

It's probably my fault it broke because just the day before I was marveling at how well it was performing. And then the next day it just randomly died. I guess that's how it goes, though...
My warranty filing yesterday went in similar fashion. I isolated the problem, imo, to the Body by using other known-working parts. Described my findings, which in the past would have yielded a new Body being shipped. But they told me send in the whole thing, including charger. This does just seem to have become S.O.P., not so much a result of what we say anymore!

I just have to say the Delta 3D mini funnel is a must own accessory that grasshopper themselves should be selling or better yet including with every GH purchase.

My threads are consistently clean. Reloading the bowl is so fast now too, it's as quick as a battery change! That feeling of screwing on the mouthpiece so smoothly is very satisfying.

GHL if you haven't already. Please get in touch with D3D and work something out!
yes.

As someone without a desktop vape like the EVO I was really curious about how the Hopper compared. I've had my eye on a Log Vape for some time but not sure it's worth it if I have the Hopper.

Thanks for the feedback bud.

Thanks bro, for alot of people there is a time and a place for a plug-in, especially one that can be left on 24/7 like a log. Even with a hopper a great vape to have would be an E-nano, and I think i'm going to pick one up for myself again. It's nice to have a reliable solid backup such as the nano, and the Nano can do what the GH can (thick super dense hits) on barely any material, and works a dream with concentrates. I guess I just don't like the EVO and Herbie as much as others do....i'm looking for rapid extraction, and I feel I need to take multiple hits with those vapes, compared to the gh or enano.

Not sure how much that helps, but if you can't afford a desktop I wouldn't sweat it, otherwise go for that log you've been longing for :)

Totally agree with this, I own an enano and it's fantastic complement for the flaky hit monster that the hopper is, even though enano can't keep up with Evo ability to sustain heat through endless amount of repeat hits the enano still looks better, is smaller and fits in the hand

The enano can be overwhelmed by 3x big bong hitting stones but takes it a min to reach good temperature again (protip is to leave bowl in unit to let it heaksoak)

Also the logs vapes are great massage rollers for sore shoulders

Thanks Guys,

Truth be told it's not about price, I could get the EVO, but I really like the idea of a custom Log with @Snappo style custom wood.

I was thinking of a HomeGrownLog just because @RastaVapa is UK based and there was talk of a docking pad type solution for the power cord. :brow:

But then the RBT MiLog looks cool with it's Milaana style on demand capability.

I just want a sexy bit of wood with awesome heating tech, custom carved because I'm at that age where I can afford it and want something that's all me, me, me.:science:

I do love my Hopper for those big head busting hits, I only really do one hit through the Orbiter and it takes a good 2hrs before I'm even able to hit it again. :whoa:

I'm enjoying the OmniVap for lighter more frequent hits, I find that thing is great if I want to be up for about an hour. It's more a lazy river than a full on space mountain adventure but I'm yet to run it through my Orbiter. Also I'm still playing with the air flow adjustments so I'm still quite a way off of being able to compare with the Hopper.

You know what's gonna go down guys, we have seen this happen to many a FC member, I'm gonna end up with 35 Log Vapes, 12 Hoppers, 10 Desktops, 300+ VapCap's/Parts/Accessories, 100,000,000 pieces of Glass and a bad case of the munchies. :freak::lmao:

Because it does sound normal. Someone else said and it's true, if the problem can't be replicated they are just going to send it back so be sure it's actually broken. 2 or 3 bowls in a row, then overheat sensor cop lights that go away right away is just the sensor doing its job.

So for the first time I just tried a sesh with the GH without clicking it off for the entire session. Loaded up the bowl fully completely, and temp 5 for the entire session with a fresh ghb2. OMG! Hit after hit after hit...double digits forsure....not even a flicker, and just a nice stable blue led. Eventually no more vapours....probably 20+ hits.... put it on the nitecore, and it showed 3.9v! The battery life is better on this device than I thought, and my hopper was only barely warm at the back end. I usually charge my batteries after each bowl, so I have fresh proper power for each new sesh, but now i'm wondering if I should even be so diligent about clicking it off after each hit? Sure, it's more strain on the heater.... but if it just has to maintain a temp vs that energy sucking initial heatup, i'm not sure if there is such a big difference. It is pretty wasteful though, when I could have vaped up another couple of bowls on the same battery, but just goes to show that the GH actually does have a decent battery life, IMO! :)

EVO and Herbie simply cannot do what the GH can do, regardless of form factor.

Well, these are all subjective opinions and we are each entitled to our own. However, I don't agree with this. I have a GH and love it. I like very hard hitting vapes. Don't give me a whispy vapor, 12 minute session vape...just not my ideal.

With that said, the EVO is a cock knocker of the first degree IMO. I find my GH, with WP, to be pretty much equally good for hard hitting full extraction but its hard to beat an EVO for function and (in comparison to the GH) robustness. I would throw a good log vape in there also as you can do just about anything you want with an Enano (except use it on the road! LOL)

But I do love my GH.

What exactly don't you agree with? :ko: I just can't get that super uber milky thick vapour out of the EVO (nor herbie), and I think it's due to somewhat too much airflow? My EVO isn't exactly working perfectly so I may change my stance after, however i've owned numerous Clouds and Cloud+ which were even heavier hitters than the present EVO and still couldn't replicate the GH.

So i have a Problem with my TI Hopper, which is my 2nd and quite new.

If i use it through water, the Performance seems to be weaker than before and the Batterie dies pretty fast.
This would just say buy a new Battery to me, but when i pull, the blue lights flicker or get darker / brighter which seems to be related to how hard i pull.

I tried to clean the screws and i m not sure what the Lights mean.

Thanks in Advance for your Tips and knowledge :-)

I also preferred the EVO over the Herbie if it matters, but the GH is a desktop killer IMO!!!

It is better than most vapes, and it's dynamics are the reason.
The insulation is crucial to the performance, have you ever seen inside an EVO? I would never pay good money for one, personally. Although, they do what they do more than amply.

I set up my EQ at a friends house, as it was just sitting in a box all year.
Fuck hot parts exposed to the user.*
Hot glass, metal, large amounts of silicone, impractical unit size.

A log vape is an exception, but hopper labs have killed it with the grasshopper.

Different vapes have different signatures though, it was kind of like visiting an old friend getting high with the EQ again, just has a subtle spin to the effect.
I prefer the hoppers subtle spin though.

sesh with the GH without clicking it off for the entire session

I do this quite a bit, especially for back to back hits

how old is the battery?
It does sound like it's on the way out, but I had a bad back-end that did this too

*the GH certainly can get hot with extended use, especially at the tip. It just gave me a nasty sting after blasting a couple of chambers and having a quick toke. Very low risk, but still not perfect

do you have now a heat sensor cop l7ght or overheating coplight...

regarding sending in the whole hopper ... I have to say that I first off was not happy with themidea sending in the whole... do not k ow what diagnostics they make.. but on the other hand they will check everything at once so maybe not bad ... and more important I got a new body which fits my mouthpiece, this wa not the case when they send you a replacment body and not asking for the whole hopper ... BTW thanks for that CAROLINE...

I have an e-nano and it is a great vape (sold my HIs because they sell better and I was more familiar with my nano, because imbought it one and a half year before my HIs)... I was always looking for a portable nano and I have to say that the grasshopper is the only vape I use now... did use the nano when my hopper where at HL but since I got my hoppers back the nano is collecting dust... only thing which came to my attention is but I am not really sure did not measure is that I used less herb with the nano... ok thismis maybe due to its small bowl... and I love,to fill my gh (loose of course) because of the big clouds and my abv is also darker then... and I have the feeling it extracts more better this way.. because in my opinion the herb is kept in position whereas when only loading a pinch it floats around the chamber and the abv is not as dark... but who knows it is only speculation...

So if,you do not have a special urge to buy a new (desktop vape) and you already have a sort of back up for your gh... I would maybe wait until the milog ismavailable so you can choose your wood and so on and have sometving custom made for you in your posession... but if you do not have a back up I can recommend you a e-nano or HI (but you will have to wait for one year -》waiting list) it is a really great vape...

I bought a sticky brick maxx as it is always good to have a butane vape back up for those times without electricity and of course because of VAS and I have heard good things about it... it is on it s way to me...

I thought I clearly quoted the part that I didn't personally agree with. Let me do it again:

EVO and Herbie simply cannot do what the GH can do, regardless of form factor.

Also, let me tighten it down a bit. I own and EVO and should restrict my view to that. I have never owned or used an Herbalizer.

@btka I have the sensor damage cop lights. I don't think I've ever seen the overheating lights on my Ti, only on my SS.

I also want to add that I heard back from Hopper Labs less than 6 hours after contacting them. They promise a response within 3 days, but have beat that estimate on all 3 of my warranty requests. I really appreciate how quickly they get back to you.

Finally I have a Hopper but I do have one big problem already it just arrived and I have to go to work without trying it. This may be the longest 8 hours of my life. I have a question to all the experienced users. Should the Hopper be left mouthpiece down or up after use. I would have thought tip down so any residue would go to the tip and not the heater but I seem to recall someone saying not to leave it tip down. Don't want to screw it up now that I finally have it.

Ah those last 8 hours are the WORST! hehe, you'll survive though ;)

I leave my horizontal, however I've never had a huge build up of resin. I did grab a spare mouthpiece so I could rotate them between a jar of ISO and the hopper so I keep them fairly well maintained.

Like @Mr. Me2 said, we need more data.

I know people gonna be upset but I waited 3 days for my hopper. An got two batteries and shipping for total 185. Testing tonight can't wait, but def heats up so far functioning great

Nope, not upset here. Actually I'm delighted to see HL improving their service and shipping. When they started up their blog and began communicating more at the beginning of January it felt like the company were beginning to get a grip on things.

Seeing posts like yours is encouraging and I'm now keen to ascertain the stability of the new shipments.

I'm still seeing a few posts about warranty returns but not as many as I was expecting, it's circumstantial evidence at best but it's all I have to speculate on and I'm speculating that HL's product and service is improving.

I have HIGH hopes for the future .

I only get one really decent 15 second draw on T5 through my Orbiter using an 8 month old GHB1.

For me running the GH through water means:
  1. One tends to run it at a higher temp
  2. One tends to draw harder forcing the heater to work harder
This means the battery is getting battered (more than you are :brow:). Also I tend to do one large hit with the hopper every 2 hours or so through water which means each time the hopper is starting from cold requiring yet more energy to get up to temp.

I've given up paying attention to the blue flickery lights, there just doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern to their behaviour.

It is possible your battery is fading but don't forget 750mAh (550-600 in reality) isn't a lot to play with.

When at home vaping through the MFLB I leave my weakest battery in the Hopper and have the thing permanently tethered by the OEM charger to the mains. It works really well for me.

If only Hopper Labs could release a proper high watt power supply that powered the heater directly and bypassed the need for batteries. Come on Matt/Trevor, you know you want to :brow:

All good suggestion bud, I have absolutely no need to get another vape, plenty of spares kicking about. But VAS will make me (I am weak:rolleyes:), which is why I'm fully prepared to wait and get a really nice custom job done. It's going to take me a long time to settle on a design I want as well so I'm in no rush. :science:

@Baron23,@MoltenTiger and @biohacker I find it amazing that a portable like the Hopper could even compare to the power of a desktop like the EVO. I feel completely and utterly spoilt and love the direction these vapes are heading in.

WISH LIST MOMENT!!!!
  • High watt battery bypassing powersupply
  • Some kind of on the go capsule/bullet loading mechanism (maybe a V2 that slightly larger to accommodate such a system)
  • A custom wood case like the DynaStash but for my Hopper (could get 3rd party to do this)
  • An oils/wax front end (hopefully coming down the road)
  • A water pipe adapter (I've heard rumors )
  • Adamantium option or unobtainium option :freak:
  • Micro Tokamak fusion generator or Zero Point Module :science:

I lay mine down as well (more or less..., kind of toss them in a bag). Never thought about any sort of drippage/seepage/buildup and I've never seen any issues (I'm also bad in that I usually empty the chamber when it's cold). Hasn't been an issue at all. It isn't like this is a Herc cooling down concentrate (unless, of course, you're using concentrates).

If you can only get one rip off a charged battery, it's not at all comparable to a desktop vaporizer. We're talking muskets vs m16's here. I honestly don't buy into the ultra discrete size thing only to need a bubbler to cool the hits and a 4 pack of batteries to get through a session lol. At this point I think they should have made it bigger and crammed an 18650 in there. 750 mAh is frankly a joke with 3000 mAh 18650 cells. Even my tiny Evic Basic mod has 1500 mAh and puts out 40 watts.

I get more then one rip of one battery... the vapor can be harsh on temp 5 but with a bit of experience it is not such a big thing (but yes it could be,improved the harshnes, maybe a new advanced mouthpiece with better cooling)... I like to use a bubbler because I can achieve bigger clouds with a bubbler...

maybe they will in the future release a gh with a 18650 cell who knows or something different, they have the heater technology to do a lo of things...

Depends what you are after really.

At no point did HL say they were producing a desktop replacement.

All we are doing is exclaiming about how amazing it is that it's even remotely possible to get dense vapour similar to some of the best desktops under the perfect circumstances.

Sure 750mAh is small, but when out and about I don't hit the device on T5, I hit it on T3-3.5 and get 4-5 decent hits with an 8 month old GHB1 battery. I don't need a bubbler to get high off this device, I just need one to get the best out of it.

Anyone thinking they can get EVO quality vapour (assuming water cooled) out of a device whilst walking down the street is most likely going to be disappointed.

But if you are after a versatile device that can work great as a portable during the day on T3-3.5 and then go home and hit T5 through water with comparable (not identical) results to very popular desktop vapes then the Hopper is a good option.

Actually they did say it was a desktop replacement. I've been following the hopper since it was the ZenPen.

Dense vapor is talked about a lot, I'm personally no longer convinced it's something I want. IME more dense vapor just equals more harsh vapor. Darker ABV only proves more chlorophyll is being extracted not more actives. Most of which actually vaporize under 350F.
