Discontinued The Grasshopper

The report I recall (subject to mental limitations) was that a coin or piece of metal stored in a pocket with the GH could or did cause a short that would turn the unit on. IIRC the heater would still remain off, just the lights would come on? But with two threads and many posts it's well possible I'm confusing vapes.
nope that was/is a thing, but thats separate from the desire to avoid the GH from clicking on... which realistically @TheWhisper does have a point but then you're wasting precious battery... not a lot, but still. I could see that being a decent way of preventing it from turning on if you're really that worried (tho by turning it on to let it auto shut off you are doing the thing you are trying to prevent lol)

@vapebuddy13 Just noticed your signature...so sad
haha I thought about changing it but last time I did... well clearly things changed lol

Right, how are we suppose to celebrate murica without new things?!?!
seriously! Im heading to my buddies in a little bit for the "after everyones own bbqs party" and don't plan on drinking much so just gunna vape but most my friends don't vape/smoke so being able to get it on pull and off in 15/20 seconds would be perfect! but no :/ gotta let my Haze get up to temp for just a quick go

So what's the thing with the Grasshopper?
I skimmed through the thread and found there's two versions. SS/Ti and the most important is the heat up time. Remarkably fast to reach Desired temperature, quality build and a good sized bowl.
I have just one question, is there any way to get a bigger sized battery?

How s the cleaning of it ? Is it pretty hard, I know a few that just get plugged up at every ~10 session

Why would you think that? They apparently had to make their own battery to go into it, have you seen the pictures of it? Where does the extra battery go? Higher mah numbers don't necessarily mean better performance!

As far as I have gleaned, it's a pretty simple process: Just swab out the Grasshopper's still-warm chamber every couple of sessions or so as well as submerge the mouthpiece in isopropyl alcohol as needed. Apparently the pure convection design makes for considerably simpler cleanup.

Whoops, called me on that one! Haha I meant higher performance.was there ever an approx. max time per charged battery?

That's not my experience so far… It depends on the design rather than the heating method. The vapman needs the least cleaning so far from all my previous vapes and it uses radiation/conduction.

The Grasshopper looks like it is very simple to clean as well though though. I wonder what happens when it gets dirty under the heating chamber screen…

It's removable with a tool @Just Justin said.

I think they're going log style, hoping the heater burns up and herb dust that falls through on to the hot element below. But would seem course grind is best here like most pure convection

When you look at the screen in the bottom of the chamber, you can see welding spots, or at least that's what it seems. I think it's only the screen in the mouthpiece that is removable, but hopefully I'm mistaken.

Just the mouthpiece screen is removable with that tool. It threads out on the same threads inside the mouthpiece that attach the mouthpiece to the chamber.

That' s correct about the mouthpiece screen being the only removable screen.....I wish I could pull out that chamber screen too, just in case but I don't think it's necessary.

With my experience using 3 different Grasshoppers, I have never had the chamber screen get dirty, not even a little dirty. The color of the screen makes me think that it has been anodized and I think that process makes the screen slightly more non-stick, just a guess. Also the hot air pours out of that screen so I think if anything did get stuck or does get stuck, then its basically cooked clean by the heater and the hot air that blows debris off when your inhaling, at least that's my theory. Also, it may have to do with how I load the device too that helps keep it clean by using a funnel with the Hopper tipped on an angle so I can slowly push the herb in, rather than just drop it straight down or I'll use a scoop to slowly add herb in with that. Also, use a courser grind rather than super fine to minimize dust and small particles because the GH does not need it to be super fine to get a good extraction. If the chamber screen dose get dirty, a q-tip in alcohol will clean it or you can turn the unit on, take a few draws and then come back with a q-tip to get that build up while its warm, which also works great for the chamber by the way and I suspect it will clean right off and I really doubt much can get past that screen except for some minor dust but I am still careful when I load just to be safe.....I will try to keep an eye on this and let y'all know if I run into any issues.

I would like to hear from other Grasshopper owners what they think and how their experience is going with the screens. One of my main concerns when I first got a unit was about debris getting past the chamber screen and I asked Trevor about it and he assured me that it won't hurt the unit if some dust gets past the screen or in the air intake holes, it just that you will probably he inhaling those particles when you use it. The heater probably cooks any dust away if it falls through the screen......

I would really like to hear from Buzz, how maintenance is going for him, as he has had a GH the longest...

From my experience with the Firefly which has a very fine screen in the heating chamber and the hot air comes from below, the screen looks like new all the time, indeed, but underneath a lot of cooked ABV finds a place to live and I am sure this can affect the taste… I don't understand why the Grasshopper's bottom screen was not designed to be removed…

Oversight maybe? 2nd gen might fix it, hopefully the company does well and our lifetime warranties are realized.

I really wish the screen was removable too, for that exact reason but I hope and think that it will be fine in the Grasshopper. There's not a lot of room for debris and residue to hide/build up in the chamber and the screen is designed different than ordinary screens so I don't think much can get past it, especially with how fine the holes are in it..I think part of the reason they went with a permanent screen could be to protect their designs like the heat exchanger, from people that may want to copy the device.

From people that know this kind of thing (@Ratchett ), report is a 3-d printed heater like the GH has would be extremely difficult to reproduce. I got the impression that's their ace, but that wouldn't stop shady clones from showing up on [insert internet-based marketplace] and elsewhere at some point.

My question is about the battery life. We've heard about how long it lasts and takes to charge, but how many charge cycles will a battery of this type take? If a vaporist does 500 cycles a year, how many batteries will get them through 3 years? I'd rather order all the extras with the GH, to avoid shipping cost on a single battery.

I read somewhere here that batteries have a limited shelf life, even without use. Assuming that's true you may not want to load up on a 3 year supply now, but add batteries on a rolling basis. But I'll wait for the first Xperia to weigh in...

This is true with all batteries i know of both recharge and non. I am no battery expert tho. I just know a few thing's about them from experience, Pretty much all the 18650's i have used over the year's say to not fully charge if your storing for extended periods.

I actually emailed Trevor, asking that very same question so when he answers, I'll post it.
