Does anyone know what rapidly flashing blue lights mean? After turning it on and it heats up, it goes blue, and then every second the blue flashes about three or four times, rapidly...
Doesn't seem to affect the performance, but it wasn't doing that for the first couple of days that I've had it so far.

@JoeMama I think it means the battery is olmost empty
Yeah, the manual doesn't list this but I have also found that I get a bit of blue light flicker before it goes to flashing red then very shortly later dead battery drain. Not the best battery indications but I have a three pack of spare batteries in the small pen case I use to store/carry my GH and when it dies I just change the battery.

Well....I've used my GH for a few days since receiving the new back end. The new back end did not heat up for the first few tests and uses. After a day or two....the new back end heats up just like my old back end did. The GH still seems to be functioning properly....just a very hot back end. Damn.

Same as my new back end.

Major turn of events in my camp today (really, it developed over the last three days.) I went from having a May _2016_ "preorder" to having an SS and Ti Grasshopper in my possession. Both are brand new. I paid an extra $70ish dollars for the Ti + extra battery and an extra $15 (shipping) on the SS. It must be the power of page 420!

I'm pretty excited to try these out when I finish a few things I'm working on. I'm happy to have both metal types for comparison, spare parts and two loaded hoppers ready to go. Wish me luck. I know they both turn on and heat up in what seems like a normal fashion. I'm topping off the batteries now.

I'm curious about recent serial numbers. The SS is in the 2600s and the Ti is in the 2700s. Anyone receive direct from GHL in the last month? Mind letting me know your approximate serial? I know that the SS has been sitting in a closet for a little while because I know the previous owner, but I'm not sure about the Ti. It would also help me figure out if a suspicion I have is true.

I see that the SS starts with GS00 and the Ti starts with GT00. Its quite possible that each type maintains its own serial number count. I have no idea about the colors. So, if anyone cares to indulge my OCD, I appreciate it.

edit: damn! I just missed page 420

I have just given my new hopper a few hours of trials, and in spite of thinking I would understand exactly how to use it since I've spent an entire year waiting for it, I'm having very similar experiences as @Justpassedu has expressed very well, so I'll reference it below rather than position it as a "reply".

First of all, I've used Pax since it came out, so I had expectations that I'm really not sure are being met.

OK, so, the backend doesn't get hot at all, the battery seems to live for a good number of long pulls (though the Nitecore says it's still sitting at 62% when the hopper flashes red), and there is "only" one other odd behavior: Twice so far, while using the bubbler and the silicone tip, the hopper just decided to shut off while I was drawing. Poof, just like that. Re-clicking didn't turn it on, but the next click did. This does not seem like "auto shut off", but it was nearly 15 seconds I was drawing.... and I'm drawing for 15 seconds because...

...the vapor is just not that thick. It's nothing like I've seen.

I don't pack it tight; in fact, it's a pinch or two. And it's dry.

I've used it above setting 3.5, 3.75, 4, and 4.25 (roughly, obviously!). I haven't tried 5 yet (mainly because I feel I shouldn't have to, since I've seen and watched others (videos) of spewing vicious clouds without using "5". So there!)

So I really don't even know what to ask! I kind of refuse to think that I have to fry this at the highest setting to be satisfied with the vapor. I think it's medicating, but it's no more impressive than my Pax.

I guess I'll just keep trying different approaches, but, I'm not over the moon about my hopper yet.

Thanks for reading
try 5 for big clouds ;)

and regarding hot back ends is it possible that some over react and the hotness of the back ends are normal for maybe the style you are using it... also some mentioned it has to do with the batteries (some batteries are more prone for hot backends also it was speculated that if the batteries get low they are affecting hotter backends)... also some meant holding the grasshopper without touching the clip or backend so to speak only touching the middle part of the gh does effect in cooler back ends... what are the final conclusions of you gh owners...
in my opinion holding only the middle part of the gh and a full battery is resulting in cooler backends...
but also you have to be aware if you take several big hits one after one this is surely effecting hot backends... maybe you should let your ghs cool down in between hits...

as far as I am not burning my hands (but also take in consideration you do not really have to touch the backend albeit your hands are too big) and my gh performs otherwise as it should I am not planning on sending it in... but my backend does not get as hot and also I am taking most of the times one or two hits and then let my gh cool off maybe that is the reason I do not get a burning hot backend...

also I have noticed thatbthe ambient temperaturemis affecting the hotness and the time achieving hotness... when it was cooler outside my gh was not as hot as in the summertime whenthe air is hot...

I'll confirm this one. Hot back end definitely happened ime when battery is nearly flat. Last time I got a very hot back end the battery in question measured ~3.80v or thereabouts and had given the flashing blue lights to indicate low battery. I have repeated this issue with 2 different batteries only when very low on juice.

I think that one possible issue is the low battery warning kicks in a bit later than we need it.

Another problem I find is the screen in the mouthpiece in some models is loose and can screw in further or unscrew itself out preventing connection of circuit through the body or causing the threads to be unable to screw in flush.

Obviously, the back end seems prone to getting gunk in between gaps and this has caused some issues for some too. I dont trust the stock charger either, definitely had a number of instances where it was plugged into a couple of different UL bricks but delivered no power!

I don't think the mouthpiece threading has anything to do with the circuit, only the backend threading. I am pretty sure you could use the hopper without the mouthpiece (or rather with something else as a mouthpiece unless you want a mouth full of weed haha).

I have noticed that my backend (my 2nd one, was replaced a bit ago now) will sometimes get hot, and if it is I also notice that my hopper doesn't perform as well and shows dead battery faster than it should. This makes me agree with those saying that there are resistance issues that are happening somewhere in the circuit. I thoroughly cleaned the backend threads (and those in the body that it screws in to) and that has mostly alleviated the issue. I still notice it from time to time (or actually I will notice the blue light flicker first usually, and then notice that yup the backend is getting warmer than it should) and have found that just taking the backend off and putting it back on again often fixes this. I've also noticed a correlation to the clicking sound that the backend makes sometimes. Louder clicking (never that loud but can hear it in a quiet room) means flickering blue light means hot backend. Sometimes just a little wiggle of the backend while the unit is on will make the clicking and everything stop.

It can definitely be a finicky little beast, but I love it when it is working, particularly paired with a bong...

@JoeMama
I am going to hypothesize that you are not drawing hard enough. For all the reports of a wider air flow, it really takes some suction power to draw out the full potential. The hopper shuts off on all the folks I've let try it that just don't draw hard enough, and I have to reset it. They get whispy clouds, say meh, and hand it back. Sounds very similar to your experience imo.

Yes, indeedy, Sea.... I just discovered this, - about a minute before your post! :haw:

You really do have to draw quite differently than the Pax I've been so used to. Gotta be the boss of the thing. Heheh
The only gotcha is that, at any moment, I get that hot mouthpiece singed-lip feeling (no silicone tip).

Also, on just about the 4 setting, I'm getting nice clouds with a good strong steady draw.

@Kermitt and @Baron23 ,yes, thank you both; the blue flashes do indeed come just before the battery goes south. I checked the batteries now 4 times (2 batteries over 2-1/2 days), and they show nearly 62% remaining charge. I dunno, it just seems weird that they would crap out at over half-potential.

Regarding getting a hot backend... Nada, zero, not even a hint of heat so far!

I'm finally using some good quality weed and today I noticed I'm getting beautiful honey oil stuck in the silicone piece. Scrapped it out and hit it again! Very potent :)

Also I believe the flashing blue means the GH isn't detecting a draw. I've had mine switch off but when I hit it again harder it worked fine and lasted a few more bowls. I think judging by the shape of the oil buildup I'm pulling fairly hard. The oil is stringy and sets hard.

Alright! So after another day or so of trials, I have concluded that I love this thing

I bought three: one grey Titanium for myself, one purple Titanium for a friend, and one Titanium, just in case either one of the first two takes a crap.

For my friend's, I'll just say it seems to be working like mine. She's a newbie vaper and is going through that process. So, as for mine...

A total of 5 full battery-discharges (alternating between two batteries), there is absolutely no indication of any backend heating. It is amazingly cool. Therefore, if it shows any sign of getting hot, I am apt to immediately alert GHL and seek to re-establish near-zero heating, as it was in the beginning, is now, and damn well ever shall be, Amen.

Personally, I think that silicon tip is a disgustingly cheap design; it's ugly and it fits loosely enough that it can slip off with certain "twirling" movements of the device. If it was any looser, it would fling across the room and go under the couch. So, I avoid using it.
To prevent lip-burning - without the silicon tip - I found that if I put my lips further onto the larger diameter of the mouthpiece, all I will get is the tell-tale hot-vapor coming in, past those sensitive parts of the mouth (CREDIT to an OP). Since that front-end is angular, it is literally getting "struck" with hot vapor before it exits the device, and naturally it will be the hottest area.

I've used, almost exclusively, a setting of just under 4. As I said before, I refuse to put it on 5 out of principle.

I used average-size loads of about half of a doob-tube capful (CREDIT to an OP) Dry, gently-poked to make room, but not "packed" at all, no tamping - just poking with a dental tool to move the fluff into the chamber. I know I could cram more in there, but why? Ain't no pernt, as grand-pappy used to say.

So the past three loads have each provided a marvelous consistent medley of smooth silky clouds, with at least 5 pulls, each long and 'deliberate'. I shut it off for the last 4-5 seconds and continue pulling to get the after-burn.

I am still trying to perfect the method of filling the chamber, however. It can be messy. With my Pax, you just tap it in, tap it around, tamp it down, and go. With the hopper, I literally use the doob-tube cap which fits perfectly over the chamber making a seal. Tap tap tap. But then removing the cap, it's not a clean dump into the chamber because it's fluffy. So that's when the work begins to keep spillage down.

Other than that, I am hoppy.

There must be a fair amount of difference in the fits of the silicone mouthpiece because mine is fairly snug. Enough so that if I have it on my hopper with the mflb glass stem I can hold it just by the stem and the pieces will hold together for 4 or 5 seconds before slipping apart

And one of these:
http://delta3dstudios.com/grasshopper-mini-spiral-stand/

Your loading problems will be over.

Glad your GH is working well. Mine also. Back end is, so far, never even really warm.

Best of luck with your new GH. Put it through a 14 mm water tool joint and you will fall in love with it all over again.

Thanks, Baron23, I did buy the doob tubes because I liked the black color (are they different than regular ones??), as well as the leather case and battery caddies. I guess the funnel will be necessary and easier to do the loading... Silly of me, because a while ago I bought the funnel for the doob tubes I had.

I have a Purr Papa bubbler, and it's swell with that, too!

Finally got my hopper today. 1 out of 3 batteries is DOA. The one hit I managed to get out of one battery was pretty nice.
I'm sure this has been asked to death, what is a good charger for hopper batteries. I have a cheap one that I think will not work properly. The dead battery was charging on it and even progressed but when I put it in the hopper I get no power.

Edit* Maybe a false alarm. Now the dead battery is working?! Man this thing is potent.
