Discontinued The Grasshopper

I honestly wouldn't mind sacrificing a little size for some extra life.. Not too much though this thing is pretty sleek.

Edit. Would totally own one of each size, to accommodate any need, or vas...

Once of the constraints in their design was that it could pass off as a pen. As soon as they increase the diameter this would no longer be the case. I think easy, user replaceable batteries for a stealth vape is good enough.

@YaFreekin Right I dunno about size of battery being any larger. You say 18650 will go to 2000mAh and more, but you can also get standard rechargeable NIMH AA size batteries that are 2000mAh. I know these aren't powerful enough for a vape and wouldn't work but they are obviously smaller than an 18650 and probably the GH battery isn't much smaller/larger than those volume wise (unsure as I don't have mine yet ) so not sure size is an issue, although I will admit I don't know a lot about battery technology. :hmm:

The big difference is those AA are 1.2-1.5V. The lithium batteries are ~4.2V. The watt hours on the two becomes very close.

Since the magic of the Grasshoper is the heater, it would be cool to have an entirely different form factor and a larger all day battery.

Perhaps instead of a "pen" form a "smart phone" Would be cool as then the screen can be the UI.

On the other hand as much as I complain about battery -including to GHL, it is the case that I haven't had to swap a battery out since last weekend.

I have two Hoppers, I take one as my daytime which I use while working and out and about. I put it on the charger whenever I'm in the car which includes a 45 minute commute each way.

When I get home I switch to my other hopper. If I only had one I'd probably need at least one extra battery assuming the same use patterns.

750mAh is pretty poor.
According to whom?

It all depends on *how* that energy is used, not what size you've got. An LED lightbulb could run for weeks off a fully charged 750mAh battery, more than enough for most people's flashlight needs.

The infamous Nokia 3310 Phone had 250 hours of standby time with only a 950mAh battery. How'd you like a phone these days that lasts for 10 days between charges?

The Grasshopper uses a proprietary 3D printer heater. It doesn't need a lot of juice to fire it up to temperature. It uses considerably less juice than something like the Arizer Air to reach vaping temperatures. Moreover, the heater is not constantly running - it's pulsed many times per minute based on the demand from the user.

Yes, we all want a battery that can last for three months on a single charge, but let's be real - there's only so much that can be done with the current state of battery chemistry. You either reduce the size & capacity of the battery to make it fit into the tiny 14mm diameter vape, or you enlarge the vape to fit a standard 18650 battery.

Like I said before. I'm still looking forward to the day GHL makes a larger hopper which can accommodate a standard 18650 battery, maybe a longer vapor path between the oven and the mouthpiece? Oh the possibilities.

@Ratchett I realize its not gonna last for 3 months and I find that comment pretty irrelevant. I also realise that a 750mAh would run a LED bulb for weeks but the GH isnt one of those either. I'm not trying to be awkward here and appreciate your comment just not sure what you are trying to say. I only suggested it might be nice if they could develop one that lasted say maybe 5 or 6 loads instead of the 2 or 3 that people have been mentioning lately. ;)

I'm sure you could get at least four to five bowls, depending on how much you pack in it. It's easy to finish a "bowl" in one hit at 5, if it's a micro dose. So with that said, I think if you fill the oven the battery will not last that long because you are in fact vaporizing more in total. The GH is great with small doses and I'm sure you could get more "bowls" if you vaporize small amounts, but what I don't know is how much actual usage time the battery has.

EDIT: Just got an email saying my order shipped, I'm a March preorder. Am I being trolled or is it really shipped? Lol

Thought id check in here.......
I got my Ti GH from Vapefiend a little over a month ago.
I have read this thread thoroughly and have been unable to successfully use this vape without water filtration.
The vapor is just too damn hot.. I have tried it on as low as 2.5 (more bearable, almost no visible vapor), 3.5 is where i found the best balance between heat and vapor, but anything after the first pull is like breathing in fire.
IS anyone out there satisfied with using this device dry??
Also, any suggestions that could help alleviate this would be amazing

Edit: I understand that the major appeal to this device is its super fast heat up time and stealthy aesthetics but frankly id rather wait the extra 85 seconds for my mighty to reach temp because the vapor is silky smooth and cool AF.

I really only use it dry. My first hit is usually between 3-4 depending on load size, grind, herb moisture level. After hit one I take it down to 2-2.5 and it is great. When it works, prob best vape I've used. Flavor is top notch. No issue with hot vapor for me really.

My problem's been, not one has lasted 4 weeks in a row. Hot/bad back ends and body failures (lights going immediately to blue with no heat when pressed on) have plagued my devices.

The vapor is very harsh compared to the Mighty. I use it on all the temperatures it has, and I am able to get clouds starting at the first temperature. It's not that harsh at the first setting and I usually start vaping on the first setting if I want to have a session. The Vapor gets really harsh at 4-5, some people can't take the heat and there are others that don't mind if they like the "feeling" of combustion. On my Ti I am able to get nice clouds on the first setting and you're saying you don't get clouds until 3.5?

I use mine dry everyday except Sunday when I pair with the magic flight orbit and go into orbit
Same here except I only go through water if I want to go into orbit real quick! Lol. When I used my Mighty after a month or so of using a GH I realized how smooth and cool the vapor is in the Mighty, but I love the dense clouds I get from the GH it's like I'm smoking.

Besides the original leather cover/ stainless steel case, have any of you guys figured out a creative way for a cheap case for the hopper? I'm looking at the Ryot hard case in large. Figure I could fit in the hopper with 2 big vials and extra batteries in there. Any other suggestions for cases?

I got the black one someone posted about in this thread, and it works really well. It's also inexpensive http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00VL...-16&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=case+star

The same thing happened to me Thursday afternoon.

But I kept refreshing Vapefiends website all night at work.

Finally got one around 12:00am.

This time I checked out right away without any extra batteries.

I'm actually a June 2015 Titanium preorder. Still going to wait for it.

Just wanted to try a Stainless steel one as well.

Have you tried one of the many DYI cooling options people have posted about here? Some have had great success mating the Crafty/Mighty cooling unit to the hopper, so there's one you can try without any additional $$ outlay. I myself will be trying the MFLB mouthpiece hack.

Got one in the first batch Thursday.

Just went straight threw it without battery. Couldn't risk it.

Think it's better made than I expected. Vape quality just ok but I use a mighty so have set the bar high.

I did the same. Isnt it cheaper to order the extra batteries directly from GH anyways? I was planning on buying a few and with the exchange rate, a vapefiend battery is double the price

I am pretty sure this is the one that I am using. http://www.amazon.com/Visnow-Electr...id=1460772425&sr=1-2&keywords=ego+travel+case

The one I actually bought is now 'not available' but it is a bog standard Ego branded e-cig travel case that cost me like $8, does a pretty great job of keeping any smell contained, and I can carry the hopper, one extra battery, a toothpick (for stirring) and a small tin that has some pre-ground supplies inside. Too big for a pants pocket, although I have carried it in jacket and hoodie pockets a bunch. Normally lives in my pack.

I usually take a long draw for the 1st hit, as it needs to heat up the herb and the first few seconds of pull that is all you are doing really. I agree that the following hits can be super hot, but I usually use a puff puff approach, like you would do with a joint. Instead of taking a long draw of all vapor, draw vapor for a moment, then just air for a moment, then vapor, etc. This cools it down quite a bit, imho. I have seen a bunch of people compare using it to smoking a joint, and that makes a lot of sense to me. Except it is a joint that I can take 1 or 2 quick hits from and then put it away, which suits me to a t.

When using it on my own while out and about, when I usually just want a quick one hit, I usually click it on and then take one slow draw, then click it off and take a harder but shorter draw to both get a real hit and also cool it back down. When my wife is with me and we both want a quick one, I click it on and take what I think of as the warm-up hit, she then takes a normal one, then I click it off and cool it down.

Still, vapefiend are quick and have margins so I bought one from them anyway, just did it separately.

Agree that atm I think vapour is very hot. I burned my tounge.

Mighty still my no. 1 but there are times where I have moments to get hazed. The Elevape wasn't reliable enough I'm hoping that the GH can keep itself together because I can learn to deal with the heat as a compromise.

It is better than I thought though, but a mighty beater it definately is not.

For balance, I will add that I choose my Hopper over my Mighty almost everytime :2c:

From my point of view, the Hopper has the edge in so many ways, some of which include: size, form factor, speed, heating method, efficiency, convenience, stealth, user replaceable power source, durability, cleaning & maintenance, lifetime guarantee . . . . . . not to mention the price point.

Oh, and then of course, there's the vapor . . . . of which I do not find to be too hot - I can cope even on full power - and the focused jet stream of soothingly warm vapor that I deliberately direct towards my tongue on those first few hits delivers an extremely intense and fresh tasting hit that in my opinion retains the majority of the flavor of the herb.

I burned my tounge
I can understand how you might think that, but personally, I think that it is unlikely that your tongue was actually burned - more so that the vapor just felt very hot & uncomfortable to you - perhaps try dropping the temp a tad & moving your tongue out of the way? :p

Life in plastic? It's not so fantastic, at least imo.

Legitimate question here folks - how's the reliability been on these newer units? I'm really not seeing too many complaints about hot backends or multiple replacements anymore......

Maybe it's just me but it almost sounds like they got most of the kinks worked out of the design.

Has anyone here had a Grasshopper last for 6+ months then suddenly experience issues? I know we have some hoppers in the wild with over a year of use without issues, but I'm curious to know just how reliable these vapes are by now.

Ive bought a ti from vapefiend and few weeks ago. Use it daily and i have no problems. However i rarely use it with a bubbler and almost never on full heat.

Mine hasnt skipped a beat but i can see how ripping it on full heat with a bubbler all the time would put a LOT of stress on the unit. I gets very hot when you do this and i wouldn't recommend it.

Personally i dont see the need for a bubbler as for me its not a home unit. I have better options in the comfort of my own home.

I use it how i see it was intended, out and about having a few sneaky tokes. For this it is a total game changer. I pretty much vape anywhere now. And it just looks like an ecig.

Flavour is great on low settings due to short airpath but gets hotter as you bump it up but this is the price you pay for a small form factor.

The ti is scratched to fuck already.

All in all as a stealthy portable instant heat vape it is defo a game changer but not for all round usage.

Edit .. is the registration page working yet on the website?

It's working for me. Log in & go to 'Account' and then select 'Your Grasshopper'.

I can see the registration page with my Hopper already registered & the option to register additional units.

Clicking the 'Register +' button opens a new dialog with options to enter your Hopper's serial number & ID code.

Is this happening for you?
