Long time lurker, first time poster here. I’ve had my grasshopper for a few months and I thought I’d share my views of it here. I currently have a dark grey titanium and I use it as my daily driver.
Needless to say, I’m completely blown away. I’ve owned a few other vaporizers before but none like this. The heat-up time is what really sets this thing apart because it lets me use it anywhere, any time. Walking the dog? No problem. Standing in line outside a club on New Year’s Eve? No problem. About to walk into Starbucks? No problem. You get my point. Even outside in the cold, where other vaporizers have trouble, this thing shined. The heating element is ridiculously strong on this thing. I’ll usually use it at 3-3.5 for stealth and 4 when I’m at home. Any more than that and it’s too much for me. I’ve always been a bit of a lightweight.
I usually pack my grasshopper about half full (Not sure as to the exact amount of bud I use. I don’t have a scale), cap it, and turn it on to a higher temperature than I intend to vape at. I take the first hit at this higher temperature to prime my bud and then start hitting it at my desired temp. I’ve found that when I do this I don’t need to hit it as long or as hard to get the same amount of vapor. The flavor is like no vaporizer I’ve ever used. Cleaning is no big deal. Pretty easy, just drop the cap in iso and I put the body in a cup with some iso up to pretty much where the border of the herb chamber and the rest of the body meet. I’m always paranoid when I do this since I tend to be a bit of a cluts when I’m high.
Overall, I’m very happy with my grasshopper, however, you’d be stupid to not acknowledge some of its shortcomings. First off, it does get very hot with extended use. Not so hot that you can’t touch it, but definitely very uncomfortable. I think I’ve only ever used the silicone mouthpiece once just to try it out. People say you don’t feel the heat at all if you put your lips a little bit farther back on the mouthpiece. False. You feel every bit of it but, like I said, it’s just uncomfortable, not painful. The heat only usually comes on at the tail end of the session As a result of this, the grasshopper is definitely not recommended for group usage. The only way I can see you using it with a group of more than 2 other people is if it’s cold outside, as the cold air will cool down the mouthpiece. The vapor itself can also get quite hot after extended use. Another issue is the herb chamber. I found that it’s a little bit tricky to pack the herb just right.
Some concerns of mine:
1. If there’s no bud in the chamber I can see the light from the heating element. Anyone else a little concerned about stuff falling through the screen? I'm a little concerned about this when cleaning. I didn't think of it the first time but I just stuffed an alcohol wipe into the chamber and let it soak. Nothing happened, but I don't want to wreck something by doing this too often.
2. My other vaporizers could consistently get my bud to a dark brown. However, I have not been able to do that with the grasshopper. The bud is usually significantly lighter than what my old vapes did but still significantly more brown than fresh bud. Am I doing something wrong here? Is it because I don’t vape past 4? This is my first convection vape. Could this be a result of my old vaporizers all being conduction?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading!
