Discontinued The Grasshopper

Oh, right, so those machines they alluded to last month that would increase production rate x10 turn out to be a glorified battery charger and a qc instrument... Neither of which is really going to get hoppers assembled any quicker... I'd take my hopper with a dead battery RIGHT NOW Trevor, don't try to make out that we're all going to be over the moon with the wait we've all had when our hoppers turn up FULLY CHARGED!!! OMG, what a cool feature (<sarcasm).

I tell you what, these guys are seriously pushing me closer to getting a refund, especially after they've pushed all dates back again... It seems to me that all they are doing with the shipping estimates is waiting till the last day of the month, and then pushing everyone's date back a month, which is a very deceitful tactic. It's stringing people along. I know us preorders are getting a free battery because of the first push back, but I personally think we should get one for every pushback, meaning I'd have about 3 extra batteries so far (obviously I know this would prob tip HL over the bankruptcy cliff, but still).

A machine that tests effectivity of each unit before its boxed sounds good to me. Considering they have alluded to ~700 units ready to go each week... Perhaps finally the dates are shaping up. I pre-ordered late July, and now have a November estimated shipping date whilst the site is claiming if you preorder today it will be December. If they can ship nearly 3000 a month (big if, but what they seem to be aiming for) then the dates check out.

EDIT: hopefully the "over 100 units per day" figure isn't just referring to batteries.
None the less, the estimated shipping date is able to be inaccurate by a month so I expect my November ESD to pan into December. I'd be happy with that at least.

Is anyone still really taking these production estimates seriously? Yet again they just claimed to be soon making more in a week then they have shipped total so far..

I'm just gonna say I'm glad I'm towards the end of backers because I don't think I want to deal with multiple returns like some have. A battery charger also? Wasn't expecting that to be one of your "machines" to speed things up. I don't think many who have waited 2 years would mind an hour to charge their own.

Latest update, not surprised. More delays, also not a shocker. Them still throwing out numbers that approach 1000/week, just getting ridiculous. I think once the slew of backers and pre orders are over, this company will have a lot more positive vibes from people, but as long as they keep setting expectations and not even coming close, I think the grief is expected. At this point I know we want to know how much and when, but its pretty obvious they can't get that right. This would be much easier without all the flyby night estimates.:myday:

i also find it funny that they buy a battery loading machine... in my opinion there would be more important mhines to invest their (our) money... maybe machines which would speed up production and maybe qc... but a loaded battery is in my opinion at this time the last important thing (but maybe it is for the quality (for example lifetime) to charge them the first time by them with their new machime propaly (do not know)....

also they did not mention the back ends and what they will do to solve the problems with them (getting hot) as some memmbers who own one gh and had this problem stated

Probably mass charging is needed for mass testing of heaters. Just my guess.
Makes sense, testing the device will use power, and then they'd need to charge it so it will work when it's shipped/purchased. It may be it's just the one machine with two different functions.
They phrase it like there are more machines coming, but at this point I think total declaration of their current situation and processes wouldn't go astray - and surely wouldn't be of any risk?
Even just more official media releases would be a benefit to their brand.

Is anyone still really taking these production estimates seriously?
This seems like a reasonable update from the two or so weeks that have passed since their last update. As have all of them. What more could you expect at this point?
They are trying to do too much in house, that's why people are noting the quality. That takes time unfortunately. They have gone to enough effort, IMO, to take them seriously. And what do you benefit from doubt anyway?

I agree they are being unrighteously optimistic, but it's clear looking back that this is the stance they have taken to get this product into fruition. Maybe business is unethical (shock, horror) but that's why it works sometimes. They are walking the border of grey area, but they are seeing general success. I agree, you can't rely on their 60 day discrepancy estimated timeline, but at least know they are trying their best to get this done ASAP. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

I totally get the need for a machine that charges the batteries... but is it just me or does 100 batteries a day seem a bit low? Normally i'd say maybe not but with a battery that charges in an hr I feel like I could go out and buy 10 4-battery chargers and have 100 charged in just a few hours. but maybe I'm just over-simplifying.

they also didn't go into detail about any other machine so hopefully they do help increase the efficiency and quality of the production so soon every hopper produced is perfect.

"accommodate shipping of over 100 units per day" ... "The second machine tests the heater functionality of every unit"
I think they are meaning 100 units can be tested, charged and then analysed before shipping, every day.
Sounds like an improvement in the right direction.
They should release a "Tour of GHL" video, giving us backers and enthusiasts an inside look into operations.

"The first was a large scale battery charger that will accommodate shipping of over 100 units per day."

For those reading this as a production estimate, this is not a claim that they now have the ability of shipping 100 units/day. All they are saying is the large scale charger will be able to accommodate that capacity, if they ever get to that capacity.

I would have liked to learn ~ how many total have shipped so far, and some hint as to what's going on with the faulty back ends.

So they can charge 100 batteries a day. Yippee!!!

That doesn't mean they can build 100 complete Grasshoppers in a day. If they could, I'd be getting mine this month.

Two points:

First, it is not appropriate to discuss another member's posts or posting style in a negative manner. Report rule-breaking, do not respond.

Second—and this is getting tiring—we have a rule against bashing companies. If the innuendo and outright allegations of deceit by GHL in this thread continue, then the warning points will start to fly.

meant more about the part saying "Over the last 15 days we’ve brought some automated machines online" assuming they aren't the same machines touched on a sentence later lol.

My thought is they are different machines and the former are production machines and the latter obvi being QC machines and they figured they would touch on the part people have been worried about lately.

also curious about their production #'s... are they producing plenty each day but QC is holding them up and these machines will start bumping up shipping by a good amount? or are they below that ~100 units they can test a day and still need to work up to that.

Has anyone experimented with using it while charging it at high heats? After a number of times trying this with the crafty I noticed that it causes the crafty to overheat the battery requiring the unit to need to be shut off

Yes I think all of us are wondering about this issue.... I personally would have jumped all over this by now but this back-end thing does give me serious pause.... I want this design very much but I just don't want to start another collection of parts.... all I have for information is that it seems to be happening to some of the units.... details would be extremely helpful....

As for the machines coming online.... I think it could or may be possible that the 2nd machine discussed that will be testing the heaters....could very well have been created to detect the back-end issue....

If this machine is testing the heater it will likely also be testing the current draw... so logically if the back-end is getting hot it will be doing so by drawing current that it shouldn't be..... of course this is assuming that it is caused by a build issue and not a failing component... a failing component that falls out after extended use....QA testers can't help you there....:peace:

Nor can they help much with intermittent issues. Seems like many if not most who've reported this issue did not have a hopper that was DOA - several used it a day or so first. But hopefully that heat-detecting machine will be able to sniff even those out. :sherlock:

I'd like to see it used as I intend to first try it;
Temp at 4.20 with a small pinch in the chamber (I guess ~0.1g) blasted til its done. I'd like to see how many hits you can get until the vapour fades away to nothing but a whispy trace.

Maybe see if you can kill an amount in one hit. So load a tiny bit and see if you can finish it in one drag.

I guess mostly it would be good just to hear, and see, your thoughts on it as you explore the device.
It's hard to know what would be best to show in a video without seeing a GH unit in person.
Basically whatever you show will be eye candy regardless, and it makes waiting a lot easier!
So thanks a lot for that

EDIT:
Actually, one thing I would like to hear a bit about, is the reclaim build up potential for this thing?
How have your pieces held up with heavy use and what are your cleaning habits?
In terms of the silicone tip; what kind of build up can we expect in what kind of time frame?
Cheers again for being open for questions :)

And as requested, another video.
This video shows 0.1 @ setting 4.5 in the SS GH.

And about the reclaim, there is plenty. I get a large buildup inside the silicone mouthpiece, enough so that it wants to stick on once it's cold. Also inside the mouthpiece there is a bit of buildup, though a quick soak in alcohol will clean this.

One thing I'd like to see is you continue to hit it well after you turn it off till there is no more visible vapor.

Also seems like there is a bit leftover that 2nd hit. Do you always stop at that point or is just for the video?
