Remind to take pictures of everything when I stop being lazy :)

not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know what size tubing is needed? I was reading the FAQ type thread about it, but it mostly seemed related to desktop units with whips. Haven't busted out the calipers to take a guesstimate, but I'm not the handiest person, so I figured I should double check even if I take some measurements!

high temperature food grade silicone tubing isn't something hardware stores around here readily stock it seems. As I'm getting back into the habit and the vaporizer has opened up a new world of flavour, I'm curious to see how the other variables can affect things. (vapor temp, hydration, filtration, etc)

can anyone confirm if the Planet Vape GonG for the Solo fits the Air? I picked up a cheap 14mm male to male glass adapter at my local smoke shop, figuring I'd slap a bit of tubing on there, but I wasn't sure of what to buy when browsing the hardware store. Now I know how most ppl feel when I explain computer hardware specs to them...

Yes, the PV Gong works with the AA the same as it does with the Solo.

I estimate that I have put my AA through about 100 sessions (mostly on blue or white temps). My biggest complaint thus far is that my AA stems and Solo stems have all (excluding the short AA stem) become loose and wobbly. In fact, several will fall out if I tip the AA upside down while it is heated. I have ordered replacement stems only to experience the same issue after having used them only a few times.

I dont know why it took me so long but I finally found a solution. I had previously tried both the small and large O-rings from Planet Vape but they were both too small to suffice. A couple weeks later it suddenly dawned on me that I should try stacking multiple O-rings. One small O-ring stacked with a large O-ring fit perfectly. Unfortunately, after a couple sessions the smaller O-ring would break upon inserting the stem (regardless of whether the O-ring was stacked in top or bottom).

The solution, and compromise, was to stack two large O-rings that were just slightly too thick to allow the top of the AA to be screwed back on completely. Seeing as how I keep a sleeve on my AA this compromise is out of sight and out of mind. After screwing the top on fairly tightly I gave it an ever so slight loosening to hopefully prevent excessive pressure from damaging the threads. I doubt this was even necessary though.

That leaves my list of complaints as:
  • No battery indicator
  • Cant load AA stems by sucking herb into the stem (too much restriction). Removing the plastic MP will solve this but is more bother than its worth.
  • Plastic MP and gasket retain a "used vapor" scent even after thorough cleaning.
  • I am beginning to pick up a hint of warm plastic/silicone flavor when using the AA stems. I wonder if this could be resulting from several cleanings or even several sessions. As such, I only use the AA stems when im out and about and when at home I use the Solo stems.
  • Battery life could be be better but carrying spare batteries isnt too much bother for me.
  • I would really really like to be able to adjust temps in one degree increments.
I could list the pros but if your reading this post you already know what they are.

TY for this info. I am starting to feel my stems get loose. Its mostly for me due to using the solo straight stem that was included with my air. It is bigger and harder to get in my air than the 1's with the plastic mp's. I try not to use it bc i know this is the cause for mine starting to get loose. Where can i purchase those larger o-rings you have pictured ? Can you provide a link ? Also how do we swap them out ? Thanks

I'm curious if others are getting a looser stem. If you've only used the Air stems and noticing it's looser when inserting the Air stock stems could you give us a shout out? I'm curious and I know others probably are too. Will the Solo or Ed's stem stretch out the oven entrance? I don't want a loose stem in the Air.

EDIT
Does the oven entrance stretch out naturally?

FWIW - Mine became loose before I ever inserted a non-AA stem.

The O-rings can be found on several websites but I purchased mine from Planet Vape http://www.planetvape.ca/solo-high-temp-silicone-o-rings.html. This website also has instructions. However, I found it easiest to insert a stem before replacing the top of the AA. This helps keep the o-ring positioned perfectly while tightening the top of the AA.

Stay charged, my friends
Has anyone else noticed slightly less draw resistance with the longer Air stem compared to the shorter one? I might be wrong as the difference is ever so slight, but I think that the short stem feels a little more resistant to a stronger draw.... Am I out on a limb here?

With your stems @snorcan are the holes the same size in both stems? I want the best airflow possible so I'm not using a screen.

Which long Air stem do you have, the one with the delrin tip or the all glass Solo style one?

If all other things being equal, a longer stem will have more resistance than a shorter one. Solo stems have always varied a fair bit in their thickness, size of bowl and size of holes, so that's probably what is going on here. The other thing it could be is that the longer stem naturally tends to tilt more as you draw, opening up the airflow a bit.

I think you're right. Mind you, I switched to the longer stem and haven't looked back. I think the smaller stems have more draw resistance (tinier holes? not sure). It isn't brutal, I find that how I pack it makes a massive difference.

After inserting the solo-like stem that came with air the mp stems do feel a little wobbly. It doesn't come close to falling out when tipped over, though.

I use the short stem the most. it doesn't hold much but I get less resistance and even heat distribution. I don't mind packing it a couple times, FWIW I pour it in my palm, scoop it, and give it a light pinky pack.

Being used mainly as a portable, I want the stem to stay as tight as possible. I don't care that my Solo's have a wobbly stem. That's how we get the big clouds that the Solo is known for. When we received our units the stem was extremely hard to insert. I suppose this is natural that the entrance to the oven would relax over time. I was just concerned if my Ed's stem was stretching it out? Just curious is all.

Does the air start to irritate anyone's throat? Lol. I normally don't ever go over green and yellow. Mostly green though, but after a 2-3 sessions, my throat turns into a little bitch lol. I've tried the damp cotton when I used the solo stem but that's just annoying to mess with every session. I don't like not being able to use my new toy whenever i want lol

Btw, my stems did fit tightly at first as well a.and have become wobbly only when heated I believe. Will check again when I go out for a break lol

Does the oven entrance stretch out naturally?

It definitely is easier to insert a stem when it's warmed up. I've been vaping in cold cars or my overly drafty Canadian basement (I gotta get less lazy and learn how to fix these things), and yeah, it's rough getting it in when things are cold.

It feels like it is stretching and it may well be that the tolerances between the outer diameter of the glass tube and the entrance to the chamber do actually give a bit. Kinda like when you soak a membrane in hot water and are able to slide it off easier / fit it back on. I can't actually verify that it is stretching (and I think that's maybe not the right word -- more like flexing? easing?), but it does make a difference.

After inserting the solo-like stem that came with air the mp stems do feel a little wobbly. It doesn't come close to falling out when tipped over, though.

...

I don't mind packing it a couple times, FWIW I pour it in my palm, scoop it, and give it a light pinky pack.

Gonna test this out now. I find that rotating the stem in the tube alters the airflow. maybe I need to clean my stems / unit, haven't bothered yet since I bought this as more of a "maintenance free" piece, which is what made me set aside other models like the FireFly and Pax -- both of which I want to try out at some point in the semi-near future.

haha, I do the pinky pack too! although I keep reaching for my chapstick to try that trick out. about half the time I have it, but I always forget to use it, so I just jam my pinky in the end of the Solo-style stem.

Be sure not to pack it too tightly. It'll still work, it just sucks to use if you don't pack it right. (caveat: I'm still pretty noob when it comes to vaporizers.) I cannot overstate how critical this is. It is the difference between getting pleasantly lifted on the lower settings (this morning, mostly blue / white, a touch of green to preheat the bowl, then dropped down to lower temps). If I pack it too tightly, it gets pretty roasted and I think "ehh, I'm gonna have to crank this to yellow / red. this tastes pretty blech."

Does the air start to irritate anyone's throat? Lol. I normally don't ever go over green and yellow.

Yeah it does a bit, but once again, I think this really has to do with how you pack it. It's a completely different experience if you pack it lightly but use much less material. I find if I've accidentally tamped it down too much, I basically have to do the old milkshake suck, and it just doesn't work as well. (guess this is that "convection combination" thing at work.)

Btw, my stems did fit tightly at first as well a.and have become wobbly only when heated I believe. Will check again when I go out for a break lol

Just put an Air short stem back in. Works like a charm. Tastes pretty similar to the long stem, vapor may be a bit warmer of course. It doesn't fit as tightly as the Solo, but I think that may simply be a difference in the manufacturing tolerances or the production run of long vs. short stems. Might improve in time.

One thing I find really silly about the design is that there's no feedback when I turn it on... You hold the button down, but it won't light up til you release it? As someone with some experience in programming, I think they'd claim "that's not a bug, it's a feature! um, super stealth mode!" but really, I'd like to see it blink before I release the button. (pretty minor nitpick, but I'm kinda picky about user interface design.)

EDIT: of course I start hitting the short stem after I post. draw resistance for me is pretty much the same as the larger one. Again, I think it depends on how you pack it, and the nice thing about the short stem is that it doesn't require as much, and it's a smaller space, so you can pack it loosely and it's still close to the heating element.

I get the feeling Arizer did this for the Air to attempt to give you a good basic aftermarket experience (differences in stem length, bowl size, etc.) so you'll like it that much more if you prefer one over the other. Before I even bought the bloody thing, I was looking at GonG adapters since I knew I'd want to tailor this to my liking.

FWIW, I'm not sure which of the two plastic tipped stems I'm using right now, but it's smooth as hell. Dunno if the fact that there's less volume / cooling of vapor before it hits my mouth, but it sure seems to irritate my throat a lot more. If that's bugging you, try the long stem. I have no issues with any of them fitting or swapping it out. I don't pull it in and out chronically to stir though, so YMMV.

I have two grinders with a few levels for kief , every year I'd get a nice amount saved up and sprinkle it in a blunt or joint or just throw it on top of some fresh bud and combust. The past few years I really have not been combusting much at all and was wondering what's a good way to vape my kief now ? It's so small that I can't really put it in the air stem Bc it will either clog up the stem or oven and I'm kinda scared to even put it in at all. Was wondering what you all do ? I have seen the sandwich method .

What happens if you drop the unit on the floor?(without the silicone case) has it happened to anyone and does it damage the unit?
I got super baked yesterday and dropped it while cleaning. It made me pretty paranoid lol

Nothing, most of the exterior is aluminum. Just like my HTC One M8, I drop it all the time and nothing happens. The glass stem is all you have to worry about.

I've done close to 200 bowls and my stem is still a perfect fit, not too tight or too loose. Not all glass is created equal.
