I've owned my AA for about a week, and this morning, I dropped the bottom metal screw on cap between my car seats. I've searched, and searched and can't find it. Is there a way to replace just the bottom cap? Is there a work around. I'd hate to have to purchase a whole new unit if I don't have to.
Well that's a bummer, I sure hope not theme for the coming year....... This is known technically as "The Law of Selective Gravitation". With the huge area it could have landed in, that cap knew how to find that narrow slot (less than 1% or the target area) where the most damage could happen.
First off, have you tried the 'sticky wire' trick? Take a piece of coat hanger type wire, wrap the end (say an inch and a half?) with tape, sticky side out, and go fishing. You can bend the wire to explore all the places big enough for the little blighter go have slid through in it's ill advised quest for freedom. Renew the tape as needed, discard the old french fries recovered......
You could try to short the bottom of the batter to the spring loaded Gold pin with a wad of Aluminum foil, maybe even taping it in place, but that's sure to get old fast. You really need a cap with a spring. If you're handy you could bend up a spring and washer kluge and put it in the bottom a rubber chair leg tip or plastic cap. The Air is a bit over an inch, but some caps at the hardware store might fit well enough or you could go larger and wrap a layer of tape on the bottom of the tube for a tight fit.
Or, perhaps best of all, contact Arizer? I suspect they've herad this sad story before and will sell you another?
One 'last ditch' idea is to intentionally buy a counterfeit one from DHGate, EBay or whoever. The one I bought to check out indicates the bottom cap, crude as it is, might be the best part of the whole thing. It's rough, but interchanges with the stock one....or at least did for me:

There you can see photos of the counterfeit cap and the genuine one you remember.......
Good luck. IMO finding it is the best solution.....I'd be fishing rather than reading the Forum.
