Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) - which is a single value describing the relationship between temperature and resistance of a wire in a linear fashion. If we want a more accurate description, we need to do so non-linearly. Although we can, in principle, use a mathematical fitting to get a decent non-linear curve, if we were to put that into a microchip on a mod we have to install a much more advanced microchip and firmware.
An easier method is to have different linear curves describe different temperature ranges - these are known as Temperature Factors of Resistance (TFR). Using TFR instead of TCR helps to give a smoother temperature curve (which can lead to less sudden drops in power), and more accurate and defined temperature ranges - you might get a bit more power in the lower ranges (120 to 150 °C) than a TCR-based mod, and more accuracy near the higher end of the spectrum.
TFR curves are also helpful when using non-standard wire or funky TC builds. However, TCR is usually more than good enough for a decent TC vape.
Above is a excerpt from this linked post concerning TC. Little dated but still good at explaining TC usage.
