I recently was browsing Ebay and happened to find a Volcano Classic for $200. I bought it, and then picked up a solid valve kit at my LHS.

The night I got it the SSV was pushed aside and I just used it for the aroma top. I used pretty much only the Volcano for a week or so. The bags are nice and tasty.

However, A little bit ago just today, I was bored and decided to take out my SSV whip and bubbler.

The SSV hits much harder. I mean, I guess that was kind of obvious, but it's just faster.

The Volcano is excellent for when I'm feeling ill and want to lie down but still want to vape a bit. I can just fill a bag and take from that as needed. The vapor is also a bit less harsh since it's going to the bag and cooling down in there before I inhale it.

However, I think I can't really choose one or the other. Whips and bags are totally different and I love them both.

I would have just gotten an Extreme Q but I don't think the whip mode on that compares to the SSV and I know for a fact that the bag mode on the EQ is pretty lame and not comparable to the cano at all.

I should duct tape my SSV to the side of my volcano and call it the EXTREME Extreme Q

I would love a whip attachment for my Cano, I never use it because I find the bag to be a nuisance. I think with a whip it could provide a decent hit closer to the mighty SSV. Shame they don't offer the option.

Closer than what? ;) The problem is that the SSV (at least with the standard heater cover) can provide a very high vapor to air ratio with that very narrow air path the HC provides (little bitty outlet hole), while the vapor produced by the Volcano is always diluted as long as that air pump is going. I used both a bag filler and the SSV for a long time (same time period too), so I speak from experience. It's really hard to beat the SSV for vapor rich hits.

Hey guys, I'm new to FC and I just got a ssv about two weeks ago. I've been reading the comments here and I've noticed my ssv is behaving quite differently than ones in the comments.

When my dial is positioned at noon I get no vapor at all, and I must have it dialed to 2-3 to receive anything. I haven't been able to get any monster cloud rips yet either. I'm going to try putting in the dome screen later tonight but other than that I think something might be up with the temp or dial. Any help?

Edit: I just wanna make sure I'm not doing something dumb before I contact 7th floor. I have the spherical ground glass and my knob is off at around 7 and full power at 5ish

The position of the dial is irrelevant. The thing pops off if you pull it back. My 2:00 could be your 11:00 or vice versa. As long as you can get good vapor at some position, it's working - you can always adjust the knob. Let us know how you go.

I thought it'd be beneficial for reference to know the points in which my dial is full power and off. Shouldn't it be producing vapor at the lower temperatures to a degree? I don't get any unless it's at 3oclock or higher and I've been toying with it for around a week.

Draw speed affects heat, have you tried inhaling very slowly?

@Kickpointy
In a month you won't remember the difficult parts... the SSV and you will function as one.

Draw speed will come naturally over time.
Dial position (I now use 1:30 on the dial) is for your point of reference (kickpoint of reference) to
help you remember.
Resistance is a factor.. (how much herb you have there in wand)
More herb= greater resistance... which equals greater heat.
(finer grind increases this resistance.. by allowing the fine particles to pack down as you inhale.)
the Meds themselves.... this is factor too.. more trichomes=thicker appearing vapor.

I hope you are grinding the meds by grinder and not by fingers..
SSV prefers you to use a grinder..
stir after each hit with stir tool....
1- lift, seperate and stir the meds
2- use stir tool to crush the meds against the wall of wand a bit while stirring to elp expose more "innards"

Rocket and Vitolo are on the money. Also, if you can take a pic of the heating element/cover, we can tell you if it needs to be adjusted. That can sometimes be responsible for heat loss.

I understand this is rare but when I bought an SSV I ordered a spare wand and because I had two I was able to tell straight away there was a problem with one. It turned out the rim of my faulty wand (the area that makes contact with the HC) was so badly bubbled it was letting in too much air from these gaps and ruining it. Also the length of your bowl will make a difference to the temp you use and since they are hand blown they vary.

Great price, zero feedback. Also I would imagine that you would have no warranty. Risky but worth it imo, as long as you don't mind waiting a month or three for a refund when things don't work out.

They say it's made in Canada. Another reason to be skeptical of this seller. In my experience, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is....
That deal is too good to be true. Used SSVs rarely sell for less than $150 on ebay.

If you follow the links you will see that this is an "ex post facto' listing.
Anyone can post an item for sale.....
let someone order it.....
mark it as sold...
then write an apology to the buyer and refund the money.
What this accomplishes is, through "search" tools... it gets people to his little corner of ebay to
look around at his other stuff.

He sold all six, now he has a new digital volcano for $365...

I am interested to see his feedback from the six he sold.

I would like to give kudos to 7th floor. I sent my unit in to be fixed ( broken element ) that was my bad. They sent I back with a new upgrade. This metal bar that holds the HC in place. And they put new HC on.
Now that is customer service. From the first phone call till the return home everything was perfect. Plus the new HC and upgrade make this thing flow like a mighty river. Thanks SSV!

alright folks, got an SSV again for the first time in quite a few years. first off, its like riding a bike. dont have my technique perfected yet, just received it today, but i have for sure been getting good solid hits right away. miss having one of these.
first thing i noticed since the last time i owned one: GonG not hands free adapter (im sure its still an option, just not what I had), as well as the way the heat cover stays in place (no more metal clip that slides overtop, now a built in clip). also, it seems like the bottom of the wand is much skinner then before, barely allowing for the tube to go too deep (not a problem, seems to hold a tight seal). the top of the wand (GonG part that goes to the HC), also, is a solid open stream, not like the more narrow stream of before (as far as i remember)
looking forward to using this baby a lot.
having said all that, 2 questions for you folks: 1. the standard version, not GonG, you would have to turn to get even usage. my question is if i am doing that, would the GonG not wear down over time, making it not secure of a GonG connection?
2. there seems to be a white substance on top of my HC, on the inside, near the painted area. it kinda looks like a white mold substance. obviously i know its not that, but what is it? im thinking its a heat protector substance of some sort? if you folks need a pic, ill upload one tomorrow, my girl is sleeping, not allowing me to take a pic at the moment.
anyway, thanks for the help in advance guys, and keep the wave going.

Hopefully it's not mold, just a cosmetic defect. A picture for the curious!

I don't think that the wearing on the gong is an issue, if anything it will wear slightly into a better seal. If you are still using it heavily a decade from now and it needs replacing then that's pretty good durability.

:peace:

I would agree that 10 years from now is pretty solid durability, however, a couple months is not, so just curious. my previous SSV i had was standard with the hands free, so just not sure about wearing it down.
EDIT: pics now. last one will be the pic in question

20131002_170616.jpg
20131002_170625.jpg
20131002_170632.jpg

now, based on the pic it looks like a paint job, but it is very much more bumpy/layered then the paint around it. again, not too concerned, just more curious as to what it is.

Definitely not mould. Looks like some paint (enamel or something) that a previous owner slapped on for aesthetic reasons. If it doesn't have any functional effect I wouldn't worry. Otherwise you can always grab a new HC.

Have to say it's a good-looking SSV - really liking the colours on/in the knob!
