@Bouldorado this is a blAtant rip off of your press. You have some real fabrication skill. Did you mount your arbor press to the table? The only problem I'm having is unit tipping and too much pressure blowing out the parchment paper.

Haha thanks...it's often said imitation is the greatest form of flattery :D

To stabilize the press I tried clamping it to a table, having a friend stand on the back, but the best option was bolting it to a piece of plywood. Then for extra support you can just wedge the back end under something heavy like I did here:

Oh and for the parchment blowout I found it helps to do a double fold so the nug isn't sitting directly on the crease. like fold the parchment in half and then fold the crease over about 1/4". if that doesn't make sense let me know and I can take a pic

I ended up making smaller 1/4" sized balls or smaller and was able to get better output out of my stubborn strain. That tells me I need more pressure. Time to order a backup hairpress to hack into my hydraulic press.

Please post up some more of your squish picks!

This rosin is a trip sometimes. I have a different strain that I am trying now and it smells so good and it is so sticky, but even the top buds will not release much rosin at all. I have played with temps, pressures and times but the bud is holding on to much of the oil it as it's still sticky as hell when done pressing. What I did recover is amazing but this strain does not seem to be worth pressing with my current tech? I may have to wash some to see how much is really in there or just vape it all.

I'm curious, have you tried freezing some of those sticky flowers? Just a hunch, maybe a dumb one at that lol

I have not yet. Everything I am working with has a 2-3 month cure with 62% bovida. Next is live and fresh frozen.

Part of my problem was with the wood 2x2 block I rest on top of the hairpress. It was sitting on a 1/4" bump on the handle side that i was not seeing and pressure was not being evenly distributed. Smaller nugs helped also. So much to try.

Edit: I will never get used to saying " my hairpress"

Great Scott!
@herbivore21 make sure you get commision from d-nail, because I just ordered that SiC nail and the highly educated base. My friend will be buying my hive ceramic nail lol. I'm hoping the SiC is 20mm coil now that I think about it?!

I'll have to try just the SiC for now and grab the sapphire in the future. This little thing is expensive. What temp do you like using just the SiC at, I'd love a starting point for my dabbing experiments lol.

The local headshop wanted $135 + tax for just the dish.... D-nail had the dish and the HE 1.3 base for $140. It'll be here in 2 days hopefully.

One part you said was no more vapor trails. Thats super interesting. Somehow it eliminates the funky smelling whisps of vapor that I get after every dab on quartz and ceramic, unless of course I go WAY too hot.

Lol man they sure should be giving me commission shouldn't they? :p I just spoke with them and found out my herb nail should not be too far off! :D

By the way, you need a flat coil for SiC brother, 20mm coil won't fit it. Get on the phone to (or email) D-nail and they'll sort you out :)

I use 315c (600f) for SiC dish only and 420c (788f) for convection dabs on the sapphire insert. The sapphire is no gimmick, it tastes AMAZING and hits like a train! Especially good for rosin since even shattery rosin seems to lend itself to being smeared on a sapphire insert more easily :D

The wisps are definitely either fully or close-to eliminated depending on how you hit/what temp/what material etc. This has been a most welcome change from even the highest-end quartz and ti/sapphire hybrids that I used previously.

By the way all, the reason for no international shipping on the rosin presses is the cost of shipping for these items. Seriously, I just called up and had them quote me on shipping even though I knew it'd be ridiculous - $700 (FEDEX, USPS do not ship packages this big)!!!!!

I am told a deal is being negotiated with a shipping carrier which should resolve this issue. Here's to hoping! BTW 240v models of the presses will be no trouble, and much easier for the d-nail guys to make than the 240v d-nails (which required much bigger heater coils and hence custom nails -with the exception of flat coil nails like the SiC, which fit 120v and 240v coils - to avoid premature burnout). Damn it. No rosin press for now sucks!

everyone seems to be pressing horizontally. is it noticeably better than vertically?? i haven't really noticed a difference. its hard to tell with such small amounts..

happen to get the v1.2 base? they are sold out now and i was ready to purchase

thats what i get for being so slow.. :myday:

im struggling deciding on the sapphire insert too. There are a lot of different options on it

I quite liked the sapphire insert :)

Whether you get it with the SiC, or save up and get it later, IMO the sapphire insert is a must have along with the SiC dish :).

@herbivore21 can probably describe it better, but a dab smeared on to the sapphire insert and convection dabbed was noticeably different to a regular dab.

It seemed more like vaping the oil than dabbing it, which I guess it was :D

I don't think the sapphire is as much of a must have if you're gonna use it as a conduction surface in a regular nail, but as a convection surface it was quite nice :)

I think you sum it up pretty well here really mate. The sapphire is a lot more like using a vape to hit oil, insofar as it is more of a session type experience (with between 4-10 pulls per load in my experience), just with another level of flavor possible.

Convection dabs are great and I find that unless I need to be very quick, I will always opt for the sapphire insert and jack up the temp for convective bliss :D

Also a protip for anyone who gets one - very lightly torch the sapphire insert with the softest edge of the flame for 5 or so seconds in order to very slightly heat the insert so that you can stick super hard absolute shatters to it :D

Herb nail?

Damn it, why do you always tickle my fancies, @herbivore21 ? :D

And keep us posted on int'nl shipping :)
Will do bro! Sorry about double post mods! Edit time ran out!

I am vaping a bowl of bubble hash rosin chips ground into a fine powder and packed tightly in my Mighty. The clouds are billowing out like crazy in this place! @NorVape you gotta know what I'm talking about with these hash rosin chips right man? :freak:

I definitely think that bubble rosin seems to make the most sense for rosin. You can get a truckload of lower quality bubble pretty easily, squooshing that into rosin is quite a reasonable proposition in terms of squoosh yields vs the tiny yields we tend to get from flowers. Especially for those of us who can't yet even order the dnail press lol.

I need to jerry-rig me something that allows me to do multiple buds. Anyone got some tips for rosin pressing buds with a reasonable sized not especially wide hair straightener?

I tried to press keif [without a screen] the other day, got a TON of dark green oil- like I got a little bit worried when i saw it goop out onto the paper that stuck out from inside the press.. and that was maybe 0.6g to start!
Might try to get my hands on some cheap dispensary keif and silkscreen..

hello peeps new to rosin here, n since i live in europe i'm not willing to spend 15$ on shipping for a 15$ screen/oli mat are there any cheap alternatives?

Maybe I went a little overkill with the hydraulic power press as it just obliterates the bud and paper into a mess of FUBAR. I was doing better with the 4' pipe lol.

There is no pressure adjustment or gauge on this rig and going by "feel" is not working yet. Next, I tried adding softwoods and several layers of cardboard to give it some flex, better, but not quite there yet. Pressure gauge is a must unless I can add in the right amount of material give when maxed out.

So is anyone using SS screens or filters with a hairpress or is that mainly for larger presses?

I have tried 90u rosin tea bags and some SS screen but not much gets on the parchment with 1/2" balled up nugs. I will just pick out the chunks by hand I think.

I had to add a four inch 2x2 block on top of my hairpress to distribute the contact pressure from my aluminum pipe more evenly or it was doomed. This let's me apply even more pressure now and I seem to be getting more juice.. I lowered my temps this last round and pressed even longer. Love this tech!:freak:
I pointed out way back after I first suggested teabags that musclin/calico is the best material I have found for a screen. Doesn't absorb huge amounts of errl and you can press any earl out easily. It is reclaimable with solvents too. I still find it the best screen by far.

I would stay away from SS screens, they seem to pick up and retain too much of the good stuff in their many orifices. :) :2c:
