It's at my friends place but will take pictures when I visit him this weekDo you have a picture of the plates?
You can buy flat insulation plates from Low-Temp. I believe they were pretty cheap. I got one for the bottom and wish I had one for the top where the ram comes down on the plates.the plates are not insulated. I need to find some good material to insulate from the press yet.
Really pretty rosin dude!! I bet that stanky pile is rippin.
Shout out to the BIG homie @psychonaut for getting me back on board the rosin train!!
Took some trim bin sift of a few different OG strains and squished at 150F for 5 minutes. here's a 3g slab of salt water taffy!
I just repressed about 6.4 grams of stacked pucks at 220F for 60 seconds and got 4% yield of some dark rosin, not very tasty but there is still THC in it. I'd say it seems about 2/3 the potency, not overly sedating. Does that yield sound about right? I did learn something here, stacking too many pucks will cause you to rip your paper. Good thing the 2nd sheet caught the rosin. The pucks this time looked severely dried out.
I find at temps that low (below 190) the consistency does tend to crumble like that with most of the strains I've been squishing, that's why I've been squishing at 205F generally (best balance for consistency/stability I've found for these strains)It's kushy potent meds! Though I do feel the mix of strains actually is strong enough to muddy the flavor profile.
It's kind of difficult to work with now, it's since crumbled up and doesn't want to stick to the dabber!
That's tons of tonnage for 3.5-7 grams! Your puck size (especially bottle-tech), for that amount, will yield 1,000-1,500psi at 1 ton, so ... I typically press 5g at 1 ton yielding about 1,500 psi. I get >25% yields with the right starting material this way.Do you think Dake 10 ton press can do 7 grams with 3x5 caged plates at 60-75% of max tonnage? What is the max sweet spot? I don't want to push the press too hard.
Also, do you think 3x5 plates are too big for 3.5-7 gram presses or are 3x3 plates better for more pressure and less surface area(not burn off terpenes)? I have seen burrito tech fold as a way to get rosin off larger plates quicker, wasn't sure if the extra 2" would make a big difference or not for smaller load presses??
I have seen that 10 ton is recommended for 3x5 plates, but also wondered if caged plates needed more force since there is resistance to push springs down?
Thanks & Peace.
@JCat and @psychonautWith a small amount like 3.5- 7 grams on 3x5 plates, should I still use a prepress? Is 2x4 too big for such a small amount?
I’ve been using 2x4 bags bottle tech style ... cut down to about 2x3. Makes about a 1” tall cylinder with an area of about 1.25 sq.in. (Buying from azpressco ... 160 micron)I haven't used or gotten bags before. I used a hair straightener with bench vise Paula Abdul style (Straight Up) in the parchment. With 1x2x0.75 bag, does the pressure push the rosin all the way off the plates?
Have you seen any loss of return using a bag? I like the idea of cleaner end product...thank you for recommendation.
Thanks & Peace.
OK, what's bottle tech style?
